I'm either too late, or too early, in the telling. Possible explanations so far. 1) They encountered a Boom Tube along the way. 2) The "food from Heaven" found in the desert had chemistry in common with Wonderland cake, and the local wildlife has been partaking in the mornings. Maybe they were lost because they were too heavy to leave that spot. It's hard to go anywhere after a big slice of cake; maybe the same principle applies here.
