Southwark: "I Remember How Those Boys Could Dance" (Carrie The Musical, London 2015)
26:34
Saw this opening night. It was a Miss....period...a MISS.....
Carrie White: I also made up a song. I called it I’m a little peeper. I’m a little peeper. Cute and Pink. This is my peep peep This is my peep peeps When you tip me, I will shout Let me peep while you fall apart. (giggling)
Jiminy Cricket: Hmm. Poor Thomas. All those trucks and no sign of Edward. Sir Topham Hatt: (Ken Friedel Voice) Thomas? What happened? This train is late and why are you pulling it? Where is Edward? Thomas: (Michael Brandon Voice) (stammering) Edward took on the wrong sort of coal, sir. Sir Topham Hatt: (Ken Friedel Voice) The wrong sort of coal?! What nonsense, Thomas! I’ll find out what Edward had to say about this later. As your punishment, I want you to go to the Laundry Yard and collect the stains at once. Thomas: (Michael Brandon Voice) Yes, Sir.
1:45:00 so I can listen to that gorgeous guitar again and again it's so perfect
My sister and I had this entire thing memorized when we were kids in the 80s.
Thank you is good
I just came here to hate on it, and ended up liking it, damn...why was it such a flop? Was it because the investor Kurz left with the money? Or because it was too simplistic?
@@gustavodelascio7269 Kurz promised the cast and creatives he would keep it open. Then he locked the show’s bank accounts and fled back to Germany without telling anyone. No one knew it was closing until they arrived at the theatre to discover closing notices posted - and that would be their last performance. Kurz never returned to Broadway after that.
@@gustavodelascio7269 you might enjoy this presentation of the original production: ua-cam.com/video/k2k8B8qQemE/v-deo.htmlsi=yJvGuWPQXTExpcs3
@@ErikChampney THANK YOU
Why are they all holding up their scripts towards the end?
@@TobiBaronski it’s a “staged reading” to bring down the cost of royalties, so they have to occasionally show the scripts to make the arrangement legit.
this is the iconic original stage wow, i thought i could never see it in color
Who played Kathy?
@@TheDreadedZero April Lerman, who also played the orphan Kate in the film ANNIE.
I wish there was a video of the live performance of this.
THANK YOU. I borrowed this on a tape cassette from the public library when I was growing up so this is the version that’s embedded in my brain. All I kept finding when I looked was the Carole King version and the 1975 tv special.
what a twist. every bit as good as the critics say.
As a kid, I was in a small local production of Smile in California in the early 2000s. The soundtrack always stuck with me, especially Disneyland.
1:24:41 was that part of the play or did that guy actually slipped?
Oh the memories. The nostalgia is so thick
The instrumental for this version of the song sounds much stronger than the instrumentals in the 1988 productions. Then again, maybe it's just the audio quality. It's a really catchy song in all its forms regardless.
Alex Brightman and Corey Michael Smith never thought I’d see Beetlejuice and Riddler in the same production
Wow fantastic. I worked on this show as part of the sound team. Lived in the adjacent hotel for about a month during construction and rehearsals and went home after the opening night and a big party in Wiesbaden, hosted by Andrew Lloyd Webber 🙂
@@gavinyoung7630 you should be VERY proud!
@@ErikChampney Thankyou, it was a great time for sure. I still have the original program somewhere along with some memories such an invite to Uwe Kroger's (original Joe Gillis) Birthday party, held at the theatre and some t-shirts and badges :-)
@ I love Uwe!
This production is incredible, but I prefer it when they keep Lee and the Balladeer as the same actor. It adds a sort of surprise when the audience realizes they've been singing and laughing with a murderer, and Lee's entrance also doesn't seem random.
so true and i agree club penguin king dedede
I totally agree
Interestingly enough, the powerhouse Laurie Beechman also had succeeded Betty Buckley in CATS that same year (1984), yet again playing a role originated by Buckley (but from the movie). And then Buckley of course as we know starred as Margaret White in the Broadway run in 1988. Would have been interesting had it continued to run to have LB in the role of Margaret although she had quite the young sound and appearance. Had the voice for it though. RIP.
is this Molly ranson????
Yes that's her playing Carrie
Great orchestrations!
She's so stunning...
33:22 "The Destruction" starts
12:17 "Carrie"
24:00 "WHO THE F**K lS SCARY WHITE??" There are tears running down my face that's so funny
One of the best mystery thrillers ever made. Excellent direction, first rate acting and a memorable twist ending.

@TheMrSquib Yeah. I mean, like I laugh at parts like "you're shooting your lunch," but like through, the whole opening number is just weird.
@@thetophatoctopus2292 True, could also be due to the awkwardness or how bizarre it seems
Also, nice octopus pfp, gotta love them

@@michelle58947 thank you so much! Spread the word and keep her alive! ♥️
I really don't understand why everyone hated this yeah the 2012 version probably fixed it to make the script more coherent. For the most part I don't hate the aesthetics of this version. Yeah the Greek toga inspired looks are a bit much but toning those down and the rest of the show is actually pretty cool. I want this back on Broadway so bad! ❤
so much potential. molly ranson is so talented but this was not the role for her.
❤wow! I didn’t know this video existed. In the 90’s I worked at a piano bar. We did an HIV / AIDS fundraiser. Howard’s mom Shirley came… we did a number from this very obscure musical. :-)
I dont know how anyone can listen to this and genuinely believe the 2012 version is superior
Thank you, Harold Wheeler, for the outstanding orchestrations. I was so fortunate to be involved in this production. A wonderful cast. All!
I genuinely can't believe people prefer the very literal and basic 2012 interpretation of the show to this incredibly spectacular piece of art.
I saw the first preview on Broadway and was undecided at intermission whether it was good or not. The second act was a disaster but it sure was wonderful to talk about this epic flop
Thank you for preserving this gem.
This is a treasure

@1:53:45 - Body in position... @1:53:56 - The scary part: WHO moved the body!
Like many people, I knew about Carrie The Musical because of WitW's video about it's rough battle with reputation. I came to THIS video wanting to see it for myself and appreciate the efforts of the artists who help build the show, but I didn't want to patronize it either. I felt like it was disingenuous to appreciate something just because it's the underdog. That seemed more like pity than appreciation. I wanted to experience it fairly and casually, give credit & criticism where it is due, enjoy it as if it's just as another piece of everyday entertainment that I just came across that day. So I allowed myself to stand up and get snacks or do chores as the video was playing in order to keep myself from overanalyzing or overthinking aspects of it. And when I was preparing dinner... 'Eve Was Weak' started playing and later followed by 'Evening Prayers'. I had my phone waaaay across the counter, and I kid you not, Hateley and Buckly's performances and the music shot goosebumps through me despite the low quality recordings. That's the moment where I was like "yeah, I can't deny it when the literal hairs in my body reacted to it. Carrie was something special, it was just dealt a bad hand."
@@screemingnott spread the word, keep her alive! Thank you!
@@screemingnott also, if you’re interested in a more thorough and factual account of the production, check out Chris Adams’ “Out for Blood: A Cultural History of Carrie The Musical”. Excellent book that dispels the ridiculous myths surrounding it (such as Grease/Greece).
Never new ot was a canadian tv show until i was just reminded of this show from instagram
We had it so good.. where has the time gone and what’s happened to the world? Is there any hope? We need this type of wholesome content back for our kids. Hugs to my fellow 80’s babies and 90’s kids ❤
