Soft Top Windshield Header Track Repair
I had the windshield header track start to pull out and since it was time to start getting the soft top back on, I figured I might as well fix the header track. If you are having the same problem, I hope this helps.

96 Jeep XJ Idle Air Control (IAC) Valve

Replacing the Idle Air Control (IAC) Valve on the 96 XJ 4.0L. This is similar for almost any year jeep, make and engine that use the 4.0L or the 2.5L. The valve might look different, but the removal and cleaning process is the same. Some symptoms of a bad IAC could be rough idle, high idle, slow idle response coming to a stop among other drivability issues. If you have not replaced it and don't...
96 XJ Classic Fuel Pump Assembly

Replacing the fuel pump assembly on a 96 Jeep XJ Classic. The issue was that after driving for about twenty minutes on a hot day when the tank was at half full or below, the jeep would just sputter out and die, and then after about 30/45 minutes of sitting, it would fire up with no problem. We looked at a bunch of other things and this was our last resort option. Turns out it fixed the issue. T...

Long video. Shows you how to do the front and rear shocks on a XJ body style (approximately model years 83-02?). If you want to see just the rear shocks skip to about the middle of the video. Fronts are pretty straight forward; the rears are where you earn your money when fixing these. Sorry for some of the language, it had been a rough couple of days. Hope this helps you out. More than likely you will. The stepper motor that drives the plunger only has so much range of movement. I believe it was around 87 all the way up to 2000’s models all have this same type of manual throttle.

Well done... I just came here to ask about your rear view mirrors?! I haven't found a set that will mount with the soft too, and preferably stay on the jeepnqhen I removd the doors. Perfect video on the ebreak adjustment. When I was a mechanic, I'd jack the rear and adjust until it starts grabbing, ebrake not engaged. Then I'd back it off 3-5 teeth and make sure we have free spinning tires again

I would of placed the jack stands on the frame in from of the rear axle, then a hydraulic floor jack for the rear differential. allowing you to lower it when needed.

On newer vehicles that use the throttle body valve to control the idle air volume and are electronic, that is correct, but this generation of vehicles have a separate idle air passageway since the throttle body closes completely when you release the pedal and are cable driven. The replacement valves are made to be more versatile and work on multiple vehicles of this gen so they are made to be adjustable to accommodate. The computer will make some minor adjustments over time but you have to set the correct start point otherwise your idle will be off. Thanks for the comment! 😉

Better get an extra long 26mm deep socket. You'd think the manufacture would have figured this out and simply fabricated the sensor with the hex at least half way up so that a normal length deep socket can catch. Especially with all that's in the way.

Good post, thanks for the part #. The two extra wires come from the back of the fusebox near the drivers side firewall. There are two lugs at the back and each is fused. 30A I think. They are 12V accessory power, perhaps interior trailer lighting and as you mentioned, the brake controller for electric brakes. They are used for 7 pin round plugs. That extra blue wire in the 5 flat plug gets its power from the back up lights and activates a solenoid in in the trailers master cylinder (surge style brakes) to keep the brakes from activating when reversing. I do not know if electric brakes have the anti-reverse feature. I know this is an older post but I thought I'd update it anyway.

Do the body work well, paint the whole car dark brown. That way when rust spots come through the truck is already brown. Trying to fix rust spots and touch up areas is like whack a mole... better to paint the whole truck one time brown and forget about it... Great trucks for sure.. prefer 96, 97, 98 for diagnostic connection.. Wires, starter, alternator, water, fuel pump, etc... spend some money guys.. don't drive these old trucks and have them breaking down over a 10 dollar thermostat.. treat all rubber so they don't dry out and Crack.
