"No offense Ricky but it's not all about you" HOW IS THAT KIND WHEN IT WAS TOTALLY ABOUT HIM. IF IT WAS, WHY U DUMP HIM LIKE HE WAS HOLDING YOU BACK???? I have to rain on the parade of those of you who love her, but she was a poorly written character. Yes, the writers intended for her to be a sweet girl who lacks self-confidence like almost all female teen MCs, and her character development was supposed to be her learning that it's okay to be selfish sometimes... BUT B@#$% WAS SELFISH FROM THE BEGINNING. like she told her bf that she loved him and he respected her too much to say it back when he wasn't ready, then she went camping and cheated on him and decided to dump him when she returned. HOW TF IS THAT LOVE??? And then the show tries to portray to us that he was the one in wrong, so much as he literary enters a play, even though he despises theater for her (you tell me who loves who) and then she only gets interested again when he starts to move on... like bruh! and later in s3 he tells someone how he did her dirty and had to make up for it BUT HE DID NOTHING WRONG! THE SHOW SHINES THE WRONG LIGHT ON HER! Don't get me wrong. CHARACTERS WITH FLAWS ARE THE BEST BC THEY ARE RELATABLE. but the show needs to address them, or they become unlikable to people who pay attention to the real characteristics being portrayed. the show tries to make Ricky look like the type of guy who is afraid of love and commitment, but he shows all the love in that relationship. if the show would let her get her karma, then all would be good, but it doesn't. She manages to get away with her selfish acts, and then the show tries to tell us that she needs to be even more selfish.

OKAY THE ROSE SONG PEOPLE ENOUGH no one ever implied it was about them. YOU DID. He pushed her to be in a play she DIDNT want and pushes her to write a song about the character the Rose. She never once implied who it was about and the girl from the other school TWISTED it and made Ricky think it was about her AND HE GOT HURT AND WAS OKAY WITH THEM CUTTING THE SONG BECAUSE IT WAS supposedly ABOUT HIM. She even says “it’s just a song” and DOESNT believe her. I’m not saying Nini is innocent but there is no proof that this song was about him. It literally sounds like a rose stuck in a glass case and I for one would have loved to see that perspective because the rose was a big part in Beauty and the Beast. I’m not condoning Nini’s actions here cuz yes this song came at a rough time in the relationship but he PUSHED HER INTO IT. She didn’t communicate what the song was because that’s all it was- a song. The ONLY REASON Ricky thought this was because the girl from the other school made him and he got made at Nini over an ASSUMPTION Don’t condone that kind of behavior. Yes there was miscommunication but don’t make it all about Nini Ricky was okay with cutting her from the play over an ASSUMPTION And the reason she didn’t want to tell Ricky is maybe cuz it was a surprise? Or another reason- we don’t really get that part. Yea this show was all about miscommunication but don’t just pin Nini- everyone had it. Especially Ricky

I’m going to sound like the most annoying person I know but I’m going to go out and say it. Nini was the BEST character in HSM the series. Not just because Olivia Rodrigo plays her but the way she just kinda handled everything and who she was. About the breakup tho, this girl just pours her HEART out to a guy she’s known since kindergarten and does it in the most ADORABLE way and his response is “let’s take a break”. HOW DO YOU EXPECT ANYONE TO BE OKAY AFTER THAT. She was locked in her room for days, in the words of Kourtney “it was dark”. Even after that, she finds another guy who really just sees her as a star and I think he was more a rebound than an actual boyfriend. She still worried for Ricky and HELLO DID ANYONE SEE THE HSM PLAY?! The way she grabs his arm and pulls him while singing that ICONIC song. Helping him with his confidence AND THE CONFESSION AFTER AHHHH. okay so I will not deny tho, season 2 got out of hand. Although! we get the BEST song in HSM (imo) GRANTED! Basically just telling herself to choose between life at East High and Ricky or strive for something greater. I won’t lie. It was messed up knowing someone so long and NOT telling them you’re leaving or giving them a heads up or anything. That was bad on Nini’s part. However, she did try everything she could to make it work and even did the distance relationship but Ricky was just a mess without her and of course was dealing with the show and the rivalry school and his parents. LONG STORY SHORT. I feel Nini was a great girlfriend when she needed to be and was trying to be there for him but ultimately you kinda need to come to terms with the fact that he did hold her back because he just wanted everything to stay the same cuz he doesn’t like change (rightfully so due to family reasons and past experiences with it). Whereas she wanted the “out with the old in with the new” kinda vibe.They both played a part in the breakup but I think it was a necessary one. She knew where she wanted to be and he… didn’t. Can’t blame someone for that. All in all I think people misinterpret Nini as the ungrateful and jerk girlfriend who abandoned her boyfriend with abandonment issues for her own selfish reasons. Hopefully I shed some positive light on that.

To be honest I found her to be my least favorite character. I just didn't vibe with her personality and found it kind of selfish when she wrote the rose song. Like girl you were supposed to write a song for a rose and you made it about you. But this is just my opinion. :)

Nini is not my favorite character, but I love her, she is so kind and genuine and she has the same name as me (Nina), which is awesome and Olivia portrays her so well, she is by far one of the best characters
