I am a local Seattle-ite, earned my BS in Biochemistry at the University of Washington. I now work as a research scientist at UW. Videos highlight a lifestyle that is relevant to both me and my peers.

In Cali with family. We did touristy things, which is more rare for us. Today we drove down to Monterey Bay to see the aquarium, have lunch, and also drive along pebble beach! We ended the day with a short stop at Carmel Beach, with its really white sparkling sand.

I am only doing research this summer so I’ve had the chance to truly try my hand at work/life balance. Not going to lie, I love the more laid back scheduling. As much as I love being a student and whatnot, I could get used to this. I’m also sad, some of my friends are leaving when their summer programs end.

My friends have never been to the Seattle Chinatown so we took the link the go explore! We ate so much food, enjoyed the gardens, and eat some more. We even managed to fit in some reading and grocery shopping.

After working all week, I rode a charter bus to Portland to join my friends. We went around the city, enjoying good food, walking around malls and gardens. It was a lot of fun and a good chance to relax. 10/10 would recommend a weekend getaway.

It’s application season for summer research. I’m hoping to be able to get a summer fellowship for the lab I just joined. Applying for summer research is hard for me because I am not a good writer. I’ve only taken a handful of writing classes and as a result I am struggling to write these essays 😂. Ah well, I’ll get better with time and practice. Please enjoy this study vlog!

Hello! Welcome to to UW! Glad you enjoyed the video. Yes, you can become an undergraduate research assistant as a freshman. I'd advise you look at different labs at UW and read papers published by those labs to see if their research is something you'd be interested in. Then email the PIs to see if they are accepting undergraduates in the fall. A good lab will teach you what you need to know to do research with them. Another great place to start looking is the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Database: www.washington.edu/undergradresearch/research-opportunities/find/
hi! i love ur vids so much and i’m actually considering going to UW. do you have tips for starting research as an undergrad? i know UW is huge so did that make it harder to find a position? also, were you “trained” in any way? i don’t have much lab exposure besides my ap chem and bio classes, and i did some shadowing at a UW lab over the summer.
hello! my apologies for the delayed response. my go to advice for starting research is to read papers on topics that interest you and then cold email the labs you want to join. UW is certainly huge and that can seem daunting when looking for opportunities but that also means there are a lot of different labs you can look into! as for training, I found having some science education allowed me the foundation I needed to understand my research. that being said, the lab you join will train you. hope this helps!

hi, i'm currently looking into colleges for next year :) how would you recommend UW's Biochem courses? like
at UW the curriculum, coursework, and other student resources for biochem majors are quite excellent as long as you have the initiative to utilize what is available. what you get out of the program really depends on how much effort you're willing to put in. that being said, I will not sugar coat, it is a very rigorous degree. the chem department will definitely challenge you to excel as for the biochem series itself, I quite enjoyed it. I knew I would enjoy biochemistry, hence I picked the major. I love case-based learning where we incorporated what we knew at the molecular level in the context of a patient
