    Lee is simply one of the best written fictional characters ever from a video game atleast. His whole tragic story and redemption is why I love the telltale series. Clem is also one of the best written characters in the series as a whole and that’s including the show and comics

    Kenny is one of the most…just painful characters to watch. And you see him devolve even more in Season 2. He’s literally lost everything, and he doesn’t know who to blame. So he gets angry and tries to find some other reason for his loss. And he goes absolute batshit when Ben reveals it was him. Kenny’s actor fucking nailed it.

  • @patriciohe9273
    @patriciohe9273 День тому

    Something i would say/add to this is that if you take certain choices to be a lie, the game also shows you how truth doesn't mean honesty and viceversa, even if you are honest it doesn't mean you tell the truth, this is specially notorious with the St. Jhoans and The Frontier seasons, and to a less extent with the rest of seasons. Similar with that one phrase (honesty without compassion is cruelty, and kindness without honesty is manipulation), i would say that honesty without the truth is a facade, and truth without honesty is just another way of lying; and also there is certain moments when the truth is not the correct thing to say as you need to also factor the way other will react and if that will put someone in danger (ofc not every thruth must me told later on but some of them do) with this everyone in all of the TWD seasons is lying, to himself or to someone else, by action, omission or thought, thats where truth becomes even more important and sacred, and you can see this because in every interaction where someone's life is in danger it is directly because of a lie, some examples is all the story arch with the St.Johans where because their lies, our group is in danger, where Lili's omission to state the severeness of their lack of supplies is what allowed Ben to stole the meds with no one knowing, where Kenny lies to himself to make sense what happened to their family puts the rest of the group in danger, when Lee lies or hides all of what he knows abt Clementines parents causing here to be put in danger by that one stranger in Savanah, and the list goes on and on

    Tbh, it's always been strange to me that Rick's group survived so long as a whole. The truth and honesty thing seems silly to me in an apocalyptic scenario. Fact is, when the power goes down and people are fighting over food and water they'll abandon societal luxuries like truth and honesty and the nebulous concept of being 'a good person' as quickly as they tear each other's throats out. In the wild, the strong eat the weak. That's a universal law of nature that we've managed to rise above. Holding onto morality as if it's some magical saving grace just makes you a liability in that situation. Tragic, but it is so. It makes TWD too out there for me to take seriously when the main cast are these invincible saviors just because the show must go on. The game, on the other hand, gives you those pragmatic options to be ruthless, and I appreciate that in terms of realism.

    • @LawrenceInArabia4
      @LawrenceInArabia4 День тому

      @@VersusArdua That's a great point. But at the end of the day, in those situations, people have to be honest to SOMEONE. Constantly being outside the truth will quickly isolate, and isolation is a death sentence. At least it is in my estimation of this fictional scenario. I'd love to hear more of your thoughts, though! I enjoy your perspective.

    • @VersusArdua
      @VersusArdua День тому

      @LawrenceInArabia4 A very fair point. Even among the most ruthless survivors there really still has to be some element of trust involved beyond just fear. Great video, btw. Subscribed. As a game developer in the industry it genuinely never occurred to me that some players see "Story as window dressing for the mechanics." While I agree for the general story, I feel it's a bit ironic that though you say it's all about honesty and how important it is, ultimately if you make Lee honest or not have 0 consequences on the story. You'll get different dialogue but in the end it doesn't even matter. So while yes, it had been important in that scenario, it wasn't important enough to apply it to well...the main character of the story.

    • @LawrenceInArabia4
      @LawrenceInArabia4 3 дні тому

      @@malkavarianrey9037 And I agree. The biggest problem with TellTale's formula is that it doesn't hold up across multiple playthroughs. But in a first playthrough, you wouldn't know the relatively little weight of your choices. I actually have another video that covers that a bit if you want to check it out. However, I don't think that detracts from the theme of honesty being present throughout the story. At the very least, it certainly colors how you see certain characters and events (even if you can't do much change them). I'd love to hear more of your thoughts. I appreciate the discourse!
