Fianna Fáil have broken promise after promise when it comes to housing
I am urging people to be wary of political parties who have a track record of broken promises.
For example, in the last general election campaign, Fianna Fáil promised to deliver 50,000 affordable purchase homes
After nearly five years in government, how many of those homes have been delivered?
Less than 1,000.
Any many of these homes costed up to €550,000 - so including them in affordable housing figures is laughable.
The Social Democrats have a fully costed plan to deliver 50,000 genuinely affordable purchase homes.
We have a plan ready to implement and we are fully committed to doing so

Today, the cabinet finally agreed to increase the housing targets. The Housing Minister was supposed to do this back in 2023. Two years late - and 48 hours out from an election - he finally gets around to it. People can make up their own minds about the cynical way this government does business. What I want to know is, how many of the homes in these revised targets will be affordable?

A vote for this Government will be a vote for record house prices, record rents, record homelessness and over 500,000 adults living in their childhood bedrooms. The Israeli state is flagrantly committing genocide and is attempting to plunge the whole region into war. This Government, which talks tough on Israel, has yet to apply any actual sanctions. Disability services and supports are either threadbare or non-existent. The Social Democrats are calling for a senior Minister for Disability in any future government.
