    The converter doesn't work for me - I followed all the steps in the insturctions. The little gear icons appears for a second and then disappears. I've tried it both on an M1 Macbook Air and an M2 Pro MPB. Both are running Sonoma.

    The results of Silbersalz is good but the service is really pretty terrible. Slow to post, slow to develop, slow to reply to emails. It's a great idea but just a very poorly run business.

    Other great (and much cheaper) SLRs are the Praktica L models, some of them also have a light meter built in, like the MTL 3, MTL 5 (B), Super TL 1000 etc. and have a M42 screw mount which enables you to get a great collection of vintage lenses.

    As I mentioned in another comment, I was a film loader many years ago. I was taught to never use the gears to advance the film at first, because chewing the film with the sprockets is a very bad thing. Gently push the film into the feed sprockets of the magazine; let the open perforation push the sprockets, moving the gear, until the first few perforations are synchronized with the sprockets. Then advance the film with the gear. Do the same when inserting the film into the take-up sprockets. This method makes it almost impossible to accidentally add a sprocket or two to the loop. Occasionally, one comes across a magazine in which the lubrication of the gears is too stiff, and so the film can't push the sprockets. This magazine needs to be sent back to the rental house to be re-lubricated.

      Correct. You should push the film through the light trap until it's through before advancing it with the gears. Another "wrong" is saying that you should never put the film in the slit on the take-up core. I've always done that. It isn't absolutely necessary, and putting it around the core is enough, but saying that you should never do it is just plain wrong. They even recommend this in the Arricam LT/ST manuals.

Die JP2 Dateien werden ja leider nicht von C1 akzeptiert…

      1 // REGULAR SCANS (4K and 8 Bit) We add our SILBERSALZ Color Science (inspired by positive stocks) and correct exposure and filtering for you. We try to keep all the information in your scans (highlights, blacks) while adding a good amount of contrast. 2 // RAW SCANS (14K and 16 Bit) Here we deliver a flat, scientific raw scan. This we recommend to trained colonists only. Both scans are very editable. You can achieve every look you want through color grading, since the 150MP sensor of APOLLON has a very high dynamic range. Currently, we do not offer both options.

    Really great results from Apollon. In the real world, to use Apollon, I would have to develop Portra 400 in ECN-2 (that would be the process with Silbersalz right?). I would love to see a comparison between Portra ECN-2 developed & apollo scanned vs Portra C41 developed and Frontier Scanned.

    • @VariTimo
      @VariTimo Рік тому

      It would be more grainy with C41 and have slightly more contrast on the negative. The SilberSalz35 color science isn’t as anywhere near what the Frontier can do in terms of giving you an analog print like look. Resolution is kind of a mute point since Portra 400 even developed in ECN2 doesn’t give you more than 6K nominal resolution. Even 50D won’t really go beyond that much.

    • @EM-ve9bh
      @EM-ve9bh Рік тому

      @@VariTimo Did you download the samples? the Apollon does appear more detailed.

    • @VariTimo
      @VariTimo Рік тому

      @@EM-ve9bh How much are you planning to crop/ how large are you going to print? You get maybe a small amount of detail more with 50D or 200T but 250D and 500T simply don’t have the resolving power in 35mm 8-perf. Yes you can look at real clean grain very very close up, but at that point you’re looking at a Super 8 sized portion of the frame. With a Frontier it might only be a 16mm sized portion. Within a reasonable crop of let’s say 200% there is no noise issue with the Frontier and no gain from 6K to 14K. Check out Steve Yedlin’s Resolution Demo on the topic. He shot The Last Jedi, Knives Out, and Glass Onion.

    •  Рік тому

      @@VariTimo Well the Silbersalz35 grade does not try to reproduce a c41 analog print. It is meant to be a somewhat close representation of a motion picture contact print (Kodak 2383 I'd guess). And I think they are doing a pretty good job on that. And if you do not do really large prints, the 14K option is mostly worth it for the increased bit depth of 16 Bit compared to 8 Bit of the 4k Scan (or Frontier). At least for me that would be the main point on why I would get the upgraded files. Just to get more leeway to add a look to it/grade it :)

    • @VariTimo
      @VariTimo Рік тому

      @ I wasn’t talking about C41 prints. I’ve seen a few photochemically finished prints of movies shot on Vision3 and finished on 2838. Silbersalz35’s films scanned on my Frontier look more like a 2838 print than their color science. Their colors are “inspired by Vision print films” and they’re not doing an amazing job. The gamma is way to low and the hues aren’t right either. I’m not saying my Frontier looks just like 2838 But it comes much closer in terms of contrast and color saturation. The hues are still a little different. And I wouldn’t want 14K sized files if I wanted better color depth. It’s just not worth the hustle. And I’ve edited the living shit out of less than 10MB, sRGB, 8Bit Frontier files without them falling apart.
