    Now can you imagine if the New Haven had merged in 1955 with with the New York Central and in Norfolk and Western. And then Norfolk and Western would say to the New Haven will make you a new independent Railroad by 1966. It wouldn't be the New Haven anymore would be the Providence in Worcester. And they would have an expansion thanks to the Norfolk and Western stable money.

    That train is about 200 metres long and completely passed the camera in approximately four seconds. 50 metres per second is 180 kilometres per hour! (According to OpenRailwayMap, the speed limit in that area is 200 kilometres per hour.)

    日本と違いアメリカは1960年代に車社会になり、鉄道が衰退してしまった。 しかし、日本は路面電車だったものが普通の鉄道に代わり、専用軌道になった。東京や関西の私鉄の一部がそう。

    I worked at Tilcon N. Bfd. from 1995 until 2009 as the Road Runner. I lived nearby on Harrison Rd for 30 years. The only time I heard a horn was if something was on the track. I've witnessed idiots driving around the gates when they were down. Even empty the Train could never stop in time to avoid a collision. The BSRR has never collided with anything. As a Rail Fan I'd prefer they blow for crossings and there's an agreement between the Towns and Tilcon that they not blow the horn. There's a road that leads up to the Shop atop the quarry I'd use to avoid the numerous Haul Trucks zipping around. There was a crossing for the Train and a parallel crossing for a Front End loader that supplied the asphalt plant with sand from a pile. Countless times I was nearly hit by one or the other as I came upon the crossing; both were blind right to left. I couldn't hear either of them. I could hear the Train as it left with loads because the Locomotives was in notch 8 and frontward but when the Train returned with empties the Locomotive faced rearward so the prime mover noise was behind it and that's when seeing it was more difficult. All Quarry vehicles and equipment have the right of way and the loaders and haul trucks have priority. Of course I was slowly approaching this crossing and that's why I had near hits and not collisions.

    @BudTheDrummer 2 роки тому

    I worked as the Road Runner at Tilcon N Bfd for 14 years. My former Co Worker Dave McGrath tells me that the EMD SW1001 #7357 that had been the mainline Locomotive for decades was retired because as the train descends the quarry to the sharp bend of the Trestle over Route 80, the old EMD couldn't supply sufficient air to the brake pipe to keep the train in check with the larger cars so this Locomotive has become the Main line engine while #7 is a spare. I read some years ago that Tilcon had applied to the State for repowering #7 with two Cummins Gensets to comply with Tier 4 Emissions standards and to reduce fuel consumption as it could haul the empties back to the quarry on only one Genset. I can't verify if any of this ever happened. In 2008 I took a trip to PA to get #7 a new Air Compressor.

  • @BudTheDrummer
    @BudTheDrummer 2 роки тому

    Did this Locomotive replace the EMD SW1001 #7 (7357)? I know she was up for repowering with Gensets.

    Where is the High Grade line? Is that the line by Almar's and the road to the Rail Cropping shop? I'm trying to find out how trains get in and out of Cedar Hill Yard since the track 3 inbound lead was taken up in the '80's.

  • @BudTheDrummer
    @BudTheDrummer 2 роки тому

    When I was a kid in the '60's, my Father worked at McCluskey wire Company on Grand Ave, a few buildings down from the Belle Dock crossing which is the 2nd across Grand Ave. The other is on the opposite side of the Mill River. In the 30's and '40's my great Uncle hand cranked the gate up and down and sat in a shanty trackside. It remained there until around 1970 and the hand cranked gearbox for the gate was motorized before being updated in the '70's. The Belle Dock Branch crossed the NEC tracks 1 and 2 before crossing over to the Yard lead track 3 inbound for Cedar Hill Yard. There was a drag of fuel oil cars every Wednesday afternoon and one summer day I witnessed that train, pulled by a single Yard Switcher, hit the switch for track 3 and stall. The Crew, swearing alot and grinding the rails down while trying to get moving were eventually rescued by an ALCO RS-3. The next day, welders were there buttering the track back to normal. There was also a spur off Route 1 that led to Water Street down to the Ferry Street bridge that served 7 spurs to the Industries there including Schiavonne and Sons Scrap Metal on one side and the defunct Yale Brewery on the other. I think the track crossed Ferry Street to National Gypsum. In 1977 I rounded the curve at Criscoulo Park, turning left onto Water Street and nearly ran head on into another RS-3 in the middle of the road! I believe they were gathering up rolling stock that was left behind when the Industries all closed. In the '80's the John Davis Industrial park was created off James Street and that 2nd crossing from Grand Ave was reconnected in hopes of drawing Industries that would utilize a newly built rail spur but it didn't pan out and was paved over. Until the mid '70's train regularly traveled across Grand Ave on the Belle Dock branch from the New Haven Terminal at New Haven Harbor and one of the Oil tank farm Companies or maybe the Terminal had a small Plymouth Locomotive for jockeying cars around. I'm thrilled to see the revival of the Branch line.

    • @Poisson4147
      @Poisson4147 2 роки тому

      But not the only one. Many railfans count SEPTA's Norristown High Speed Line as an interurban as well. It began as the renowned Philadelphia and Western Railroad - grade-separated, standard gauge, third rail power collection; running 13 miles between Upper Darby and Norristown PA. The first cars ran in 1907 and the current route was laid down in 1912. SEPTA unfortunately has dumbed it down from its former 16-18 minute service to more like 30 minutes end to end, and eliminated the flag stop system that helped it maintain such a quick schedule.
