Yes indeed a masterpiece... Breaking the waves was also a massive blow for me but Dancer in the dark is unique. I liked also Catherine Deneuve acting in this mouvie a good trjbute to Les parapluies de Cherbourg or Les demoiselles de Rochefort. I know that it is coming from far but i've found that the final scene of the Teheran Law is a least as vibrant as the one in this mouvie.😢

I remember watching this movie when I was 11 yo with my older brother, I ended up in tears completely DEVASTATED, my brother was so concerned for me (and what my parents were going to do because of him playing that movie to me) that i don't think he even had a chance to processed what we had just witnessed.

It's a shame that Björk spoke so negatively about von Trier. Of course, only after the film won the Palme d'Or in Cannes.

This movie caused so many reactions when it came out,, many people even walked out upset. I loved the movie but many people I know hated all the emotions it stirred in them, calling it manipulative.

The difference in lyrics with selmasongs, it's fascinating that here it is "you did what you had to do", by her son, and in selmasongs " you have to find out for yourself" it is a message to search what is means and watch the movie what it is about. Very subtle.
