Lunch On An Open Fire
Hello Everyone and Welcome!
In this video, I decided to go out and have a fire. Last time I used my Flint and steel kit I noticed I was getting low on charred cloth. I am here today to have a tea and some lunch, I may as well char some cloth while I am here.
I shovel the snow from the firepit, gather some firewood and Birch bark then light the fire using flint and steel. I also have a bit of a channel update. I took a new job and can no longer camp on snowy nights. Part of my new responsibilities involve plowing snow. I need to be available for that. I can however still camp on Cold nights! Wich has it's own fun challenges.
Please, join me on this Adventure!

I can't come on Monday so I decided to spend the night tonight. We have not got much snow since my last overnighter so I am returning ...

A Cold Night In A Hot Tent
Переглядів 435Місяць тому
Hello Everyone and Welcome! In this video, I head out for a night in the Hot tent. I have my new sled loaded with all my gear and I will be pulling it to the spot I cleared earlier this week. Weather Network says it will be very cold overnight but I have been planning this trip for some time and refuse to let the cold stop me. I have my stove, and I brought a bit of hardwood and 2 compressed ha...

Hello Everyone and Welcome! In this video, I spend an afternoon in the woods. I bring my new sled for a day trip to test how it is to pull. I walk out to an area I plan on using for a hot tent adventure soon. I'm hoping I can get out on Saturday, I am here today to have a bit of lunch and get some prep work for this upcoming Camp night. I set up a tarp and light a small fire to warm up my soup....
Setting up my Pelican Trek 60 Sled
Переглядів 388Місяць тому
Hello Everyone and Welcome! In this video, I have bought a new sled to pull my gear behind me when out on my snowshoes, The Pelican Trek 60. I have been using the Pelican 40 for the past few years and I find it too short for an overnighter. I have to pile my gear too high and it makes the sled very top heavy. I am hoping the Trek 60 will be just long enough to lower the center of gravity and ke...
A Walk Down Memory Lane
Переглядів 1332 місяці тому
Hello everyone and Welcome! In this video, I take a walk down to 2 old camping sites. The first one is the spot where I built my first shelter and the spot where this channel got it's humble beginning. I give a description of the shelter and how the channel came to be. The second site is where I built a small cabin using only dead logs and paracord. This shelter was big enough for 2 cots and a ...

Hello Everyone and Welcome! In this video, I head out to a nice spot in the woods. It has been drizzling on and off all morning. I came out here to set up a tarp and make a big pot of soup to bring home for supper. I set up the tarp, gather some firewood and get ready to start the soup. I made some chaga at home, to use as a soup base. I pre cut a bunch of vegetables and some beef. When I open ...
Hot Tent by the River

Hello Everyone and Welcome! In this video, I head out to the spot by the river, where I burned my chair, in the last video. I have my hot tent and will be spending the night. I start with setting up camp, then Cut some firewood. Once all the work is done, I relax for just a short while. Clocks have turned back an hour so night comes very early. I light the fire and cook a delicious steak with r...
Lunch On The Rocket Stove
Переглядів 1932 місяці тому
Hello Everyone and Welcome! In this video, I go out to a nice spot near the river. Hoping to cook lunch on my Rocket stove. I know it works well for boiling water. Will I be able to tame the flames to cook Spam and Eggs? Only way to know is to try. This is a very popular spot in the summer, it's never empty. Once fall rolls around, most campers clear out, so I roll in. I clean the site, set up ...
A Hot Tent, A Fresh Bread And A Stew
Переглядів 3572 місяці тому
Hello Everyone and Welcome! In this video, I get a late start heading out to the woods. I will be spending the night in my hot tent and spending the day tomorrow cooking. Every fall I like to make at least 1 fresh bread in my cast iron dutch oven. Tonight I set up the tent and cut some firewood. Tomorrow I start with a coffee, then I bake a fresh bread and finish the day by making a stew. Unfor...

Great video, thanks, but that is the ugliest, most ill fitting sweater I have ever seen. Maybe get another one.
@@lesliebidlack7826 my sister made it for me for xmas. I wear it now and again to make her happy. Thanks for watching!
Hi Anndy! Great video! I just came across your channel and I like your content so I just Subscribed! I just bought the same wood stove as yours and will also do a review on my channel eventually. Keep up the great videos bud! 👏🏻😀
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks forwatching and subscribing! 🤝
New job sounds awesome 👍 and another great outdoors video!
So far it's great! Always something new to do.
Congrats on the new job. Awesome video my friend
Thanks!
great day in the woods. Take care
Thanks for watching!
There’s nothing wrong with a good feed of Spam over the fire every once in a while Andy. Congrats on the new job Brother! 👍🏻
Thanks Doug! So far I'm loving it.
I have one of those aluminum collapsible shovels that's a hide a seek master, I can never find it when I want to take it with me on a outing , it's unbelievable I'll find it when I don't need it , put it where I'll know where its at then when I need it I go look for it and it's never there and the cycle continues lol. You're very proficient at the flint and steel my buddy that's something I haven't tried yet but definitely have to get geared up eventually. I did get a couple of tins to make Char cloth liked your description how to do that this morning get job just do it while you're on a outing great idea. Great cook up , noting like Kam and eggs all good outdoors on a open fire . Congrats on the new job , the company got a good man there their property is going to be top notch at all times. Sounds like a great job to be honest a lot of different task to keep the job from becoming boring. Thanks for taking us along hope you have an awesome weekend my friend
I always keep a bit of cloth with my fire kit, when my char is getting low I add cloth to the tin and toss it in. The new job is great, there's always something new in the building that needs repair. Keeps me on my toes.
@Anndyinthewoods my brother in law has a similar job in Calgary and he loves busy and fulfilling
Good explanation on the char cloth and a great lunch thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!🤝
Awesome video buddy nice day out
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
Congrats on your new job. Perhaps there might be some plowing videos in the future? 👍👍
Thanks! I would have to get permission to film on the property. With all the customers coming in and out, I really need to pay attention to my surroundings. Thanks for watching!🤝
@Anndyinthewoods yes I thought of that aspect. Probably the idea is best left alone.
Perfect little lunch hike. Congrats on the job move. What does the missus think of your new position?
Thanks! She loves it. The property is minutes away so I quite often get home before her. (first one home cooks dinner)🤣🤣
something is missing-Where is your chair?
The chair is in the sled, I just knew I wouldn't be there for long and decided not to set it up.
Hello my friend. Great winter camping in the open air 👍❄️🏕️🔥🤝
Thank you my friend🤝
That is awesome Andy, congrats on the new job, great news, sounds fun, I was shivering with you, it looked chilly, it was nice to see you out enjoying yourself.
Thanks! Every day a new challenge come up. Keeps it interesting. It wasen't very cold but the humidity was high. That just goes right through you and chills you to the bone. Thanks for watching! Have a great weekend.
Congratulations on the new job. Enjoy the Big Boys Toys
Thanks! They are so much fun to play with. 🤝
Is denim the best to use for making charred cloth?
Anything cotton works well. Old rags, T-shirts, dish cloths, etc. I just happened to have old jeans that I was going to throw away. Decided I'd put them to use. They work well.
Andy... Look into getting a "SPEEDY STITCHER" !!!! Every outdoorsman needs one !!!
I have one, it works great! I was out of thread for it. I ordered more but decided to go ahead and get the job done without it. Next time I think I'll wait🤣.
Thanks again Andy !!!!😁 Congrats on the new job..... sounds cool......many wish they had fun jobs!!!! I'm a retired LEO in the States.....oh and I too love Spam too !!!!
Thanks! Glad you're enjoying the videos!🤝
Nice overnight Andy! A very nice supper and even the brussel sprouts looked delicious 😂. Thanks for taking us along Brother!
Glad you enjoyed it Doug. It was a fun trip. I guess you figured out what I decided about the new job🤣🤣. Of all the places we could run into each other, I never thought it would be at work. Thanks for watching!🤝
Where did u get that shovel. We had one like that when i was growing up but ive never found another one like it. I'd love to find one. I assume it's steel. If u see this where can a guy find one of those at.
I found it on Amazon.ca It's made of aluminum. They no longer have mine but I found a link to one that looks identical. COFIT 43" Metal Car Snow Shovel, Collapsible Sand Mud Removal Tool, Portable Aluminum Ice Remover Device for Vehicle, Truck, Driveway, Outdoor, Camping, Garden, Black a.co/d/1srEHPl Hope this helps!🤝
Great video. Thank for sharing the camp.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
Andy you did it to me again. I look forward to watching your video every Friday night after supper time I’m fed well , warm sitting in my recliner in front of my wood stove and then you start frying onions then I hear your steak sizzling along with my favorites Brussel sprouts I just can’t take it anymore You make me so hungry. Just kidding you really do a great job and your winter camp set up is first class. Thanks for filming. Good luck with your decision on your job offer
Glad you're enjoying it! I love those brussel sprouts, I should eat them more often. I took the job and the first week is going well. Thanks for watching!🤝
I watched earlier and remembered I forgot to comment. Great video and glad to see the zippers on the One Tigris tent are holding up. I guess that first one you got was just a lemon. Great video. Hope the new job works out for you if that's what you choose. See ya on the next one!
I think the first one I may have had it pitched too tight, putting lots of pressure on the zipper. This one works great so far.
@@Anndyinthewoods That's a good possibility.
Awesome camp! Good to see the adjustments to the sled belt worked out. I love Brussels and mushrooms, so that dinner looked amazing. And I see you're really getting your money's worth out of that pan 😂 glad you liked the new pad. I've been looking at getting the same one. So what's the new job offer for?
The pad is pricey but so far the extra warmth seems worth it. Will know more after some more testing. The new job is assistant property maintenance manager. Keeping the property clean, minor building maintenance. Plowing snow in winter, cutting grass in summer.
@@Anndyinthewoods wow, sounds pretty awesome. But I'm sure it will have its bad days, too
@chado_outdoors when it snows I can't play in the woods.....need to plow and keep the parking area clear for customers😪. Oh well I get to play in the woods when it's cold, and all my summer weekends are off! 👍👍
Hello 🙋♂️ my friend. It's very cozy under a warm awning in winter
Thank you my friend🙋♂️
I was impressed how small the sleeping pad is rolled up
It rolls up just a bit bigger than my other one. For the extra warmth...it's worth the extra size.
Good idea on the metal stakes, timber dry fall, yeah, quick spark, looked chilly with the wind, any ice fishing on that lake, great meal, brussels and all, hot food before rest, I'd be waking up every few hours thinking I need to stoke the fire lol, glad you had a cozy rest, you are prepared well, smart about the outdoor fire while packing up, thanks for sharing your trip, have a great weekend Andy
Glad you enjoyed it. I usually wake every few hours anyway. When it's really cold out I keep the stove stoked all night. That river never freezes very thick. I can't trust the ice. Thanks for watching! Have a great weekend Connie.
Is that the same pan you found camping last year?
Yes it is. I use it quite often. If I don't need my cast iron, I grab this one. It works well and quite light.
Great video buddy nice night out and a fine feed
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!🤝
Regarding reloading during cooking. I actually turn the top part of the stove upside down when cooking and yiu can reloading wood without taking pan off works perfectly
That's a great idea! I'll have to try that.
Yeah i didn't think about it until I put it on the wrong way one time and seen how the pot could sit on top and I'd have a perfect gap to feed the fire. Was staring me in the face the whole time 😂😂😂
It just shows there's always a way to fine tune the kit we use or use it differently for different tasks no matter how old we are we always learning. I've learned new techniques from complete beginners. The learning and excitement is never over
@@DD-bo6tr we are never to old to learn and never too young to teach.
With all the loops and carabiner, plus the slack at the belt?? We never hook a horse to a sled with all that slack. Tighten up some.
Yes! I repositioned the Drings on the belt. It seems to work pretty well now. Thanks!🤝
Like your review of this with the cooking examples, never thought about making toast that way so thank you... it works. I bought one... appreciate this.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
I did the same thing to my Trek 60 except I removed the rope handle and started looping the rope through the first rope handle hole, looping around the sled and finishing on the second rope handle hole. This leaves 2 ends at the front of the sled which I attached to a handle made from a short piece of old broom handle with a hole drilled through each end to thread the rope through and secure with stopper knots. The sled side rope loops can now be pulled to the centre of the sled and joined with a carabiner to secure your load. This will lengthen or shorten your pull rope so leave extra length for different load sizes and handle length requirements. This sled also has attachment points for hitch pins if you need to attach conduit pipe for a tow handle. This can be handy if you go up and down a lot of hills since it will prevent your sled from running you over on the downhill. Have fun!
I bought some conduit pipe for the next project. I already had carabiners. Instead of hitch pins I remove the pull rope and tie a loop on either side to hook the conduit with carabiners. Thanks for watching! 🤝
Very good tips and ideas :) You have a new subscriber!
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching and subscribing!🤝
Nice setup Andy. I am sure it will serve you well. Take care.
Thanks! I'm about to find out how well. I'm packing up to leave for an overnighter soon.
Very clever Andy. Looks like it’s ready to work. Looking forward to another camping trip out in the woods
Another Camping trip sounds like a great idea! I'm heading to the woods in the morning. Thanks for watching!🤝
You did a great job on the set up Andy a lot easier than by hand alone for sure, getting your steps in😊👍
Thanks Connie! Glad you enjoyed it. 🤝
You have the wrong technique. Too long distance to your tinder. If righthanded. 1 Hold your flint in left hand 2 Put your tinder on top aprox 5 mm in from the edge 3 Hold your steel in right hand, pinched btw your fingers. 4 Strike perpendicular on the flint edge, like you should shave of material. Be loose in your wrist. Like you are painting with a brush. Do not strike hard. 5 If you have a good quenched high carbon steel, you should get alot of sparks. They only have to travel a few mm to get to the tinder and will still be warm enough to lit fibers. 6. If you prepare something with small fibers with potassium nitrate or you put oxygen in the tinder. It will ignite much better.
@@andvil01 thanks for the tips!
Great job on this Andy! Something I’d like to eventually do with my setup. Thanks Brother!
Thanks Doug! I have seen a lot of others using eye bolts or D rings but I wanted to do something different. Show a way that costs as little as possible and still get out there..
Easy peasy!! Have you tried it yet clipping to the belt loops of your pants yet? Might give you that missing control back.
With all the weight in the sled, I would be worried that it would just tear the loops off. Thanks for watching!
@Anndyinthewoods fair enough! Have you ever thought about getting a sled dog? 😂
@chado_outdoors I am the sled dog! 🤣🤣
Hello 🙋♂️ my friend. I want this sled to be reliable and help transport cargo for camping or fishing.
So far it works well. Thanks for watching!
Two videos this week 😁
Every now and then I like to throw in an extra. Thanks for watching!🤝
It was fun!
Yes, it was!
Happy new year my buddy 3:57 would be my luck lol, but you were persistent and were there's spark there's potential , and I was thinking just as you did it I bet he's going to try the Char cloth I bet that will work . To essentially the flint and steel operated as it should for the next step of the experiment, you clearly showed that you need more spark for the Firestarter more than just heat , but your explanation was excellent on what will be needed and that will work just some tinder to get a little blaze then your starters will be perfect , you even got the train 🚆 to cheer you on lol.
The train is a big cheer leader around here..🤣🤣! Happy New Year!!
I like the homemade fire starters I make them all the time. I never thought about trying flint and steel. Another good video
Thanks!
Well that answers that question. Happy new year. 🎉
Once I saw the question, I couldn't stop thinking about it. Figured if I'm going to test it I may as well share. Happy new year!🎉
