Was the vehicle for Charlie Parker's "Donna Lee". Playing an early 70's L-5CES through my new acquisition: Fender Vibro Champ Reverb.

I've settled on the L-5CES/Princeton Reverb combo as one of the cornerstone combos I'll always find a place for.

Not much to say about this one. Using the L-5CES through the 1966 Princeton Reverb amp. Speaker is the stock Jensen.

Stella By Starlight: 1947 Gibson L-5

Gail Russell played Stella in "The Unseen" (1945). Thus, the original Stella By Starlight. The guitar is interesting because it has a factory-installed pickup.

It's most probably original circa 1952. Can't be sure because the date isn't clear. The body is one piece ash. Both the body and neck had been stripped down to bare wood, but the routes and shape look correct.

Like to do a whole series of standards on my Les Paul Custom. As I've said in previous videos, I'm playing through a 1966 Fender Princeton Reverb amp..
hello Maestro thank'a lot for your're very nice music;
@@henrifrachet5831 😊

Hi Dian Donato Ruso, do you have instagram ?? I like your playing..
Thanks. No Instagram. 🙁
You Sir are my favorite. All this fantastic playing.. All these fantastic carved tops.. ..and a Fender amp. Perfect. Thank you for posting
👍 thanks. Love those old guitars.
Love it!
Thanks!!
Beautiful!
Thank you!
Is this Marty Grosz's old guitar with a 26" scale?
Not this one. The 26" scale is a '38.
Yeah! Wonderful!!
Bravo
Grazia
Excellent, right hand relaxed, left hand thumb doesn't peek out. Beautiful playing, you have played a long time. Did you play Classical guitar too. you really know know your fingerboard, THANKS😢
Thanks. Graduated Berklee 1979. Senior recital requirement was 45 minutes of classical pieces played pick-style at that time.
Oh yea🎉
and i love the way you play it and the tone of that getar, mighty fine like always keep the videos coming 😁
Thanks Ethan. The guitar and music .
Great job, sounds sweet. What Fender amp is that?
Never mind I see it's a Princeton. Thanks.
@@picker63028thanks. Only thing to note: the speaker is a Jensen C10, which I'm pretty sure is original.
Love the tones! What amp are you going through exactly?
Thanks. It's a stock 1966 Fender Princeton Reverb/ Jensen.
merci Maestro,bel arrrangement😁
Very nice, Mr. Russo. One of my absolute favorites... Great sound, too. Thanks!
Good to know. Was just re-aquainting myself with that standard. Thank you..
❤❤❤❤
Hi Gian Donato Russo, can you inform me if you have an album or recording jazz in Spotify or any music platform. I love to hear your playing.
❤❤❤❤❤
So beautiful to hear this..❤
😊 thank you.
❤❤❤❤❤
Yes Sir🎉
love that tone so round and full 🖤
Makes a guy want to keep finding tunes to play 😊..
The original top was sitka, this is adirondack: lighter, articulate, and versatile.
Very smooth, very nice . Everyone else does Chet’s version. 👏🏽👏🏽
because syncopation will always top chord meoldy. this is elevator music at best. not impressed. Merles version says 10 times as much with 1/10 the notes this guy uses.
what do you mean prewar treatment? Did they modify the bracing; remove the tongue bracing?!
Adirondack top .. prewar scalloped bracing, etc. New fingerboard with diamonds and square pattern. Herringbone, etc. Still has close string spacing.
AH: that's extensive. I'm looking at 1956 D-28 that's in great shape. Not sure it would be wise to have this done, though of course prewar specs are preferred. Many do love the tone of the 50s D28s, or say they do. The straight bracing they say makes them even up and down the neck. I might consider a prewar bracing but the top to have it changed. Must Have been in bad shape. The tone of a 70 yrold top certainly beats a new Adi top. But maybe not. It's all taste. Your playing is wonderful. Thank you. @@GoGianRusso
@@craigsounddesigner all the work was done by Martin and is documented. I'm totally happy with the results.
Your videos deserve more views. Fantastic playing in all of them and a beautiful collection
😊 thanks. I put a lot into the playing, but I'm lazy when it comes to production and promotion.
bravo!
Always enjoyed watching you play, Gian! Your channel deserves to be so much bigger! 🙏🎸👍
Partly because I'm lazy. 😊
Lovely playing and amazing tone... I'm really jealous of your Gibson L-5 acoustic, I dream with this kind of archtops (L5, L7 or L12), this acoustic tone is really an other world... Great work!! By the way I wish you a happy new year, all the best wishes for this 2024, keep jazzin' gj 🎸🎉!! Greetings, Jose
Thanks. I think a good archtop is the best for chord melody, and a style of vocal accompaniment. Happy New Year.
Someone knows there voicing.😮
Berklee, class of '79. 😊
Yes Sir🎉
😊
Wow great playing and that tone is outstanding. More DA than L5.
Sorry. I got mixed up on the video. Yes .. it's an "FA" prefix serial number. I think the alpha prefix may indicate a special order. Nobody seems to know.
Bravissimo
👏👏👏👏👏
👏👏👏👏👏
Well played!
That’s beautiful
You gotta love it...
love it !!! merry christmas
And happy new year to you, Ethan.
A New England cousin loves this!
Thank you, Cousin Pixie. Merry Christmas. 😊 Hope all is well with you.
Great sound and chords/notes choices and arrangement, sounds oldie and I love it
Great to hear that.
