shimmery dream (clawhammer banjo)
Hi! I stumbled upon another fun tuning, this time its in sawmill tuning (fDGCD) but a capo on the first fret. Sounds really cool, and again a little idea quickly arrived. I'm beginning to think any tuning outside of double C is giving me bursts of creativity!! :) If I have enough of these I'll try to record them all more properly and make some kind of album or collection out of them, that would be fun I think. Take care everyone :)

Hello again! I recently stumbled upon a really fun tuning (g A# G A# D) on the banjo and some cool ideas came out of that, this being one of them. Could probably have gotten a better take of this but I'm happy enough with it as is, it gets the point across anyway. Have a good one :)

I went on Snapchat this morning and saw an old clip from three years ago of me playing a rough version of this song. I always really liked it but never got a good video of me playing it properly to put on here. Always got really unlucky and would record it several times over and each time I'd forget to either record video or audio or sometimes both. I figured that Snapchat memory was a sign tha...

Hi again, it's been a minute! I've been keeping my banjo fingers fresh but something about recording a banjo tune in a city apartment just didn't feel right. It has to be played in the countryside (preferably a porch but today was too windy for my microphone), and now that I'm back in the woods for the summer, the time is right! I've been listening to a lot of Adam Hurt recently (again), specif...

It hurts just as much to live it as it does to watch someone close be in that terrifying space; the lead-up to losing someone they've loved enough to build their days around. To know that they're asking themselves where all that love will go, now that it can't arrive where it used to. I have no good answer to that question, because I think in that moment no answer is good enough. It just has to...

Hi guys! I've moved and am officially settled in since a good while. I've been having a lot of fun with music lately, just making fun little melodies and songs without really feeling any pressure from it for the first time in a long time. Been singing a bit as well, not because it sounds great but because it FEELS great :) Might put some of that on here if I feel just a bit braver! Anyway, this...

Hi! Here is another very dark video (colorwise), I really tried to get ahead of it this time but the sun just managed to sneak away in time. Oh well. This is a song I randomly stumbled upon a couple of months ago. I really love how moody it is, the original recording of it is pretty old so it sounds all crackley and wobbly, it's great. Do listen to it, if you haven't already, and take care :)

Hello everyone, and happy new year!! I'm making the most out of my banjo during the month I have left in my house before I move to an apartment as I suspect the neighbours aren't as fond of loud clawhammer banjo playing as I am :) I decided to try to tackle this song today, but I am slowly coming to terms with the fact that I might not be good enough to play it yet. This is by no means a perfec...

This arrangement as a real good finger stretcher, not sure I did it justice but I gave it a good go! Really love this song, only found it a couple months ago when I stumbled upon Chet Baker's cover of it. This version of it is done by the legendary Kenny Burrell. I would never be able to transcribe it by ear, luckily someone else is and that someone is Francois Leduc. His channel is amazing and...

I'm getting into a bad habit of posting grainy, dark videos. On the other hand, we are in the actual dead of winter here in the north, so it is constantly dark and grainy! So not entirely my fault :) Here is a short and simple arrangement of a new christmas song that I actually enjoy a lot. Hope you like it, and that you all are doing well with whatever you got going on :)

Hello! Today is the last day I can play my instruments for a while with my shoulder surgery coming up, so I thought I would take the opportunity to play a last song. Both me and the banjo were freezing outside so we're a little out of tune. Not the best performance by any stretch, but playing in cold weather will do that to you. It actually sounds a bit like the struggle of putting a season beh...

This is a song I wrote early in the summer. It's really fun to play but kind of hard for me to get right as there is a lot going on and my dumb brain can't keep up. To get a good take I had to allow the tempo to rise and fall and try to play it off as an artistic choice 😉 hope you like it!!

Lovely sound 👏
Thank you!! 😊
I love this, it's super inspiring creatively and incredibly beautiful
Thank you so much, I really enjoy your stuff as well (especially your cover of Indian Summer, Wow!!) 😊
Excellent
@@buck52ish thank you!!
Oh, that's awesome, I love it! It kind of reminds me of when I've tuned to open-G but then tuned the fifth string down a half to F# to play sparkly dissonant stuff in A, D, or E major. Except your tuning is a lot prettier, at least the way you play it! Keep on experimentin'! 😁
Thank you very much, Stanley!! That sounds really fun, I will definitely try this out 😊 you keep on experimenting as well, checked out ur channel and its sounding stellar!! Subscribed :)
Nice 👍
Thanks!!
so recently I feel tired of people just talking and talking and talking and etc. there are not a one king of conversations, and some of em surely take your mental energy away not bringing anything positive in your life back. its been quite a long time since I aint felt so bothered as I feel now. was look for a tutorial for my work project, but YT algorithm brought me to your shimmery dream. two minutes passed by, so did my bad feelings. thx ❤
Thank you dearly, it warms my heart to read your comment. Was having a bit of rough day myself but you turned it around! I hope your situation gets calmer and easier 🥰
Sure does sound pretty.
Thank you very much 😊
Oh wow, that gives some really neat access to some crazy chords! Fantastic playing with it, too! Very chill/vibey/relaxing. Thanks for sharing! 😁
@@StanleyWaltsBanjo thank you so much, Stanley, for your very kind words!! It really does, it's a super fun and interesting tuning that just plays so easy straight away, excited to keep exploring :)
Hi! I'm doing a personal project, a non-profit video of ambient sounds from District 12 of the Hunger Games, just for fun. And I'm going to build a story with a bunch of non-studio songs, and I'd really like to include your cover of that song in the video, if you don't mind.
@@tonytommyblue7114 Hi! Thank you for reaching out, I really appreciate it :) Normally it would be fine but this arrangement I'm playing is actually from another artist on youtube called Jelle Snelders. I'd prefer you ask him to use his version as he is the original arranger (and his performance is honestly better!). The link to his video is in the description, project idea sounds really cool by the way =D
@@tgp4871 Thank you very much for responding! I'll look for the original Jelle Snelders version. But, you are anyway very, very good!

@@jrbrandgoods9632 that makes me really happy, thank you!! I just point a zoom h6 at the drum of the banjo with the x/y head on and adjust the sensitivity according to my playing. I'm not real techy with recording so just do the bare minimum

Very well played, beautiful arranged. Thnx !
Thank you very much!!
Beautiful arranged and well played. (Without the baseball cap this time.)
Nailed it. This is the best version of this song I've heard. Wish there was an alternative guide for guitar players that sounded similar, but for sure would not sound as good.
Oh thank you so much, I appreciate it a lot!! 😊

Hey it surely has been worth the wait for another banjo tune, thank you for playing and recording this for us all to hear, it's just lovely. Have a great summer on that porch of yours.
Thank you so much, that makes me happy to hear!! Have a great summer :)
Amazing playing, dude. Keep up the good work. I love hearing things like this from musicians like you. I hope you have a wonderful day knowing you made my day with this song.
And you made my day with this comment! Thank you 😊

Awesome. I love it, i hope to be able to play as good as you. I just got a banjo, my girlfriend is from Colombia and hasn't heard it before so i am sending her songs and she says the bajo sounds like the farm. So this fits well with you in front of a barn haha. Very beautiful song 🥲
Thank you so much, buddy, so happy you liked it! Banjo is so much fun, congratulations on your purchase 😊 i agree with your girlfriend it DOES sound like the farm!!
You've probably already answered this elsewhere but - whats your recording setup like?
Don't think so actually!! For acoustic stuff like this it's as basic as it gets: I use my Zoom H6 with the X/Y head on, place it at about the 12th fret (if it's a guitar) and fairly close, then adjust the input so when I play really loud it doesnt clip. That's it, then I take it into the computer and do some minor adjustments like normalising and a little EQ. This guitar gets a little bassy so I usually have to cut some of that out.
@@tgp4871 Oh that's a good idea, I've tried recording with a pretty decent dynamic and condenser mic in my office but I've never been happy with the quality, usually need to bump the gain a lot to get anything good out of it and then I run into a lot of clipping and stuff, and what I really hate is that for banjo you can usually hear my hand rubbing against the pot head/skin more than you can hear the actual notes, which doesn't seem to represent what I hear with my own ears irl. The portable mic looks like a great option and I could start recording outside of the office. Thanks!
Love it! Love the gorgeous background too. <3
Thank you so much! I love the background as well, its a really pretty garden in the summer :)
@@tgp4871 Oh, I can only imagine! It reminds me of Tennessee...is that where you guys live? I've only been there once, but as a gal who grew up in a more desert/high mountain terrain, I'll never forget that lovely green color. So pretty!
@@witchywoman4139 I'm quite far from Tennessee, I'm in Swedeb actually ;) That high mountain terrain sounds really pretty as well!!
