I am just obsessed with trains (number 1 obsession), planes, music (drums and piano), food, education, cars, sport (tennis and soccer), fitness and diet (even though I am not the best example in that department), dogs and cats plus a whole lot more. This channel will feature more trains than anything else but do not be surprised if I upload content pertaining to other categories mentioned (and not mentioned).
Prasa X'trapolis Mega Mini Compilation Part 2.
Clip 1: I pulled over to the side of the main road when I saw the train ermeging from under the bridge outside Mutual Station. This was just before the Epping turnoff. To my surprise this train picked up speed nicely after such a slow approach. Each carriage in the double set was full. Nice to see.
Clip 2: I have been aware of the X'trapolis Megas operating here on the Kuils River line but have never seen it in action. Finally got lucky. This train was headed towards Strand Station where it would terminate.
Clip 3: Near Heathfield Level Crossing. Say no more. Horn Action as always due to the crossing.
Clip 4: After the crossing I moved to the meeting points of the Southern Line and Cape Flats Line. This is where I made my first ever video - a short. Here is a link ua-cam.com/users/shortsTAhX7WxJdJs ..... I uploaded that short on the 17th of December 2021. That train was a 10M5 EMU. And now this video on the same day 3 years later..... Here the train also headed towards the Cape Flats Line to Cape Town.
Clip 5: This was a double set returning to the depot. I was driving through Athlone and heard the horn. Raced to Hazendal Station to capture it there.
Clip 6: Just some footage of the Northern Main Line at Avondale Station.

Ceres Rail Heritage Day Spotting

Ceres Rail embarked on a heritage day trip to Darling. I did not chase it to the countryside but decided to spot it, on it's way to and back from Darling, at certain locations. I was spotting with Saptouw at De Grendel Station and later at Avondale Station. Take note of the steam train driver's reaction to Saptouw, at De Grendel, as he was standing in the railway line capturing the steam train,...

Clip 2 : On my way to a camp at Rocklands Centre Simon's Town, I decided to stop along the rails. I saw a train in the horizon. Had to capture some seaside footage. Clip 3 : I met up with @Imsaptouw at Avondale with the intention of catching the Malmesbury Metro but was too late. Go...

After finding out that double sets would be utilized (I also predicted this) I had to go and see for myself albeit on a Saturday.. I know that in JHB double sets are Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). But this is unique for Cape Town at present and will be SOP for the Central line it seems. Single sets were used for operations up to Nyanga Station. At the time of filming these trains operated ...

This trip occurred on the 27th of April 2024. I decided to capture the train at 3 different locations. The first location you will know from one of my previous videos. Heathfield Level Crossing. Notice the father and son walking towards me at Heathfield Level Crossing. They were also there to capture the steam train. Their names are Denton (the dad) and Hattlieb (his son) - forgive me if there ...

Felt like catching some action of any kind. Also I saw via a tracker that Ceres Rail was still at Bellville Station. I proceeded to Kuils River in the hope of catching it there. As time passed while I waited, I was aware of an inbound metro train from Eerste River that was scheduled to pass the crossing just after my arrival. I waited. And after it passed you can hear me asking the question alo...

Prasa promised limited services on the public holidays after Christmas so I took this opportunity to catch some trains in action. I checked the timetables and made my decisions from there. I have seen the double set passing my house a few times. My guess it's easier than returning single sets. I have not seen these in service yet, hence my capture on video. love the alarm sound 😂 when it was approaching
Beautiful compilation my brother, I'm so sad that my TikTok account broke down😢 but I'm glad I have new drawings of the EMU now🎉
@@ChumaniGobo Thanks a lot man. Sorry to hear about the account. Such a pity. Nice. Get a new account up and running and post those drawings please when you have time.
@@WillCharlesRossThanks a lot and don't worry I'm gonna get a new account and post because it's been a while hey. I wanted to ask you something, do you see on your last video is that Avondale station, trans are now stopping on that station ??
That 10M5 set is nice and long with 4 motor coaches nogal
@@Imsaptouw Indeed guy. Was nice to see and it looked clean too.
I thought I was the only one who noticed that 10M5 with X'trapolis Mega horn😂😂 and there's an EMU that has 10M5 horn here on the Central Line, I'm not sure was set number is that EMU but I will find out soon😂😂😂
@ChumaniGobo Lol. With that 10M 5 horn I assume it's one of the sets that were not built here and numbered below 21. Local sets have the lower toned horn. I actually have a video of an X'trapolis in testing with that horn.
@@WillCharlesRoss Yes I also thought so and you can even see how the windows are build on the Motor Coach, I was with that 10M5 this morning from Bellville to Cape Town that set was coming from Kraaifontein and it's still brand new. I wish I could see that video of the EMU
@@ChumaniGoboGlad to know about Bellville to Cape Town. I am going to miss the 10m5 sets..... I will try to upload that video sometime.
60fps is the right frame rate for trains! Nice comp, i see i make an appearance at Avondale, though barely but I'm not complaining 😂
@@Imsaptouw Yes my guy can't imagine a lower frame rate. Lol. Pretty sure you will make more cameos in the videos.
Why the was the smoke box dart spinoffs the start
People should stay off railway lines!! It's neither a playground nor a theme park. It's a killing zone. Common sense, Saptouw!
True. Hence me choosing that spot where I stood. Behind the yellow line. But yes.
As a recently retired loco Driver I tottaly agree with the driver on the loco having a go at that idiot. I've had a few near misses with enthusiasts and unfortunately one fatality😢😢
Hectic. Well thanks for sharing..... Yes we all agree with the driver. But rather refrain from calling him an idiot and rather say that he was careless and irresponsible? I can only imagine how this had those negative memories flooding back.
Looks like the steam train was going slowish?
Actually a decent speed compared to most times.
hope to meet you next time youre chasing - De grendal is a few blocks from where i stay.
De Grendel. Copy from the road sign. There's a good school nearby.
Same here. Also you are more likely to bump into Saptouw as he stays a stone throw away too from that station. I am from Athlone.
Saptouw doesn't need to stand on the rail to get his footage. you can still get decent photos or video without putting yourself in danger.
bruh he's just warning the dude standing too close to the tracks.....
I know that man. Not like I said that the steam train driver was having a hissy fit. This was something interesting to witness. Kind enough refers to the courtesy you mention of him warning Saptouw.
I don't think that was anger, more of concerning frustration, guy didn't want a fan to be killed by his own stupidity.
9911 is coming I'm sure they will meet coz that one departs 12:35 at cape Town
it's goes to khayelitsha now nolungile station site c and next year that line would be extended to nonkqubela station, khayelitsha station up until kuyasa station
are they also restricted at 30-60km/h that side?
So far it appears that way. Most trains I have seen that side haven't operated above 60 km/h I assume. But you can also check with @Imsaptouw who commented here as well.
What location was the 2nd clip?
Just before Kalk Bay Station.
What's that sound almost like a whistle sound when she departs
Most likely a warning sound if someone is too close to the train.
Awesome video. I worked as train driver for many years on this line on the 8 M. Thanx for memories. Now on pension.
Thanks a lot man. Wow. 8M. That was the proper EMU to use on this line. I used to know it as the orange and silver train (before they replaced that colour with some yellow and blue while keeping the silver). Please tell us more about your experiences if you can. I'm sure many would love to know.
Yhoo please don't talk about the 8M that was my favorite set on the Khayelitsha line especially the yellow and Orange livery😭😭 I used to love that train even now,🥺🥺 I would rather wait for it than to wait for 5M2A and 10M5 EMU's but the Train Silver you can even ask people from Khayelitsha about it they will tell you🥺🥺
@@ChumaniGobo I will certainly do so. I want to hear about more people's experiences regarding that train. Thank you for sharing yours. As much as I love the X'trapolis Mega, I keeep saying that Prasa / Metrorail could've ordered some modern Japanese sets that reminds us of those 8M's. Like the E231, 233, or 235. or E217.
I was assaulted on 7/9/1997 on a train on its way to Wellington. I never took a train trip in this country again. I did some in Europe, though.
@@mistermornevanderberg Hectic stuff. Wow. What a pity man. Damn fools who did this to you. And it's these incidents that ruined train travel here in the Cape for you. Hope the European train trips were memorable at least.
Yes in deed. These pathetic local thugs do not realize how they harm the image of the country and damage the economy. before 1994 trains were a lot safer on the Cape Town lines. My granny lived near Kraaifontein station and we would take trips to Brackenfell (Hypermarket) Sanlam Center (now Parow Center) and even a day out in Cape Town. And we were always safe. Even after my ordeal I met some Dutch exchange students who came to Wellington (Boland teachers College) and they thought trains were as safe as in the Netherlands, not knowing the unfortunate surprise that waited for them when they took an afternoon trip to the Strand. Robbed, etc. but at least not held at gun point or assaulted violently like in my case. If only these morons knew how they are defecating on the image of their own country. But make no mistake, with my gran living so close to the station, the soothing sounds of trains passing were a substantial part of my life. My grandfather actually worked on trains years ago when they still had to stoke the boilers.

Don't tell me that this train will the definitive replacement of the yellow and grey old trains in Metro Rail?
Nice hooter sound of the 5m2a
I have to agree even though it sounds like a school siren.
@WillCharlesRoss earlier hooter sound was much deeper almost air raid sirens
Look like tram
What’s the tweet sounds they make ?

Nice shot bro! EMU's were removed from Eerste River since the opening of the Strand line. We currently have 44 EMU sets in Cape Town. EMU sets are taken in/out to Ysterplaat depot/junction daily as they are not allowed to remain stationary at stations like the 5M2A or 10M5.
Thanks so much man. I really appreciate it. Thanks for the info on that. Always glad to learn something new. Looking forward to hearing from you more.
Jirrre, it is amazing that South Africa still has running trains! It is almost hard to believe.....................

Nice one. I love videos taken at level crossings cause you get some great hooter action. Particularly enjoyed the X'trapolis mega clip.
Thanks a lot man. Much appreciated.
Hi, since 15 January a normal set has been operating as 0103 and 0108 according to a service advisory on Metrorail's Telegram Channels. When I pass Retreat Station (Quite often on the train shown in this video), I see only the 10M3, not the 5M2A .It is possible it was the one used on the Cape Flats Line to Retreat, I wonder what the difference between XPlus and MetroPLUS is on 10M3 sets.
Hi there. .... I too have seen that the set was not there and then again both sets not there when I travelled from Hazendal to Retreat. Sometimes during the off peak the old sets are used. I am not too sure about the differences unless it was just a better name. I assume X Plus had forward and rear facing seats whereas MetroPLUS had 3rd class style seats with a piece of material on it...... and the XPlus name appeared on the 10M5 sets only if I am not mistaken.
You changed your name.....nice video
Yes. The old name was too long after a few people had found out about my channel and asked for the name.... Thanks a lot. I really appreciate it.
I am visiting Cape Town January 2024 and would like to ride a suburban train but wonder how safe it would be for a European visitor of mature age.
Good to know you are coming to SA. It is safe as there are security guards on board. But I would suggest having 2 or 3 people with you. Just remain vigilant. Even though I travel alone, I don't let my guard down. Alternatively check this out and their page in Instagram instagram.com/reel/CzliZP5q_Wg/?igsh=MXZ1NzZqOHFrNm41eQ==
Hey, did you find it safe to ride?
Yo....Yes. So far. I have travelled alone and sometimes with a few friends or family members. I would suggest that if you want to try it take one or two people with you.
I rode on Metrorail train 2 Fridays ago FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 5 YEARS to Cape Town and the train that arrived was this Xtrapolis train. It was so spacious you could see and walk right through into the next carriages unlike the trains in the past that has tiny doors between carriages, the only thing I disliked about this train is I miss the clanking sounds and the bounces of the train wheels as the old trains was not as smooth as this one. I know it sounds strange but that is what made trains exciting for me hearing all that clanking and grinding sounds
Lovely stuff man. Glad to hear. Indeed. It's nice to see right through and entire set....... Yes that's true. Agreed. I have to keep my ears tuned in for those sounds especially when the train approaches Heathfield Station from the Cape Flats Line and crosses into the Southern Line.
I agree with the kid, that sounds awesome. Kenilworth station in this video brought back so many memories of when me and my cousins and their parents took the train in 2003 to Fish Hoek station during the December holidays
Indeed man. Sound of modernity. Hope you can recreate these memories in the X'trapolis Mega this holidays!! 👍
Great compilation - thank you. Do any of the stations have announcements of approaching trains or displays with train departure times?
Thanks a lot man...... I am not too sure. Highly doubt it. Most I've been to do not have it. I rely on Twitter or cttrains.co.za/..... Stations have a printed timetable of the train schedules. Security Guards or ticket sellers can also be asked. Hope that helps.
These trains have them, yes.
