Recently joined the church choir at age 66 after decades away! Learning all the new songs and tempos and phrasing is difficult for me and the choir, much less for the congregation, but somehow it all comes together into beautiful worship!

I have read a lot of the comments below and as a 75 year old life long Christian I ask myself why church attendance is falling. The church must move forward in grace. There is beautiful church music, both traditional and modern. There is room for both for growth. I wonder if members of congregations in the 17th and 18th century complained about the 'modern' music written in their time, which are still being played today. Any music that brings people to God has a place in today's church.

A lot of modern CCM pop artists sound like they're on Valium. It sounds bland and boring, and almost puts you to sleep, instead of wanting you to fight the good fight of faith.

Modern CCM pop music is very feminized, I just don't feel that masculine energy in it. It's sounds too soft and boring. I don't have anything against women.

It isn't Spirit-led but adrenaline driven. 4. The music is built to sell and fuel how WE FEEL, not on worshipping God. Too much is focused on the precision and perfection of the performance. I believe the true act of worship is lost. The music is too much like the world in its presentation. Repetition is created in hopes to "drive a message" yet, it does not bring the worship because we don't know God. We literally worship our feelings we have toward God. Sadly, it's the worship band who gets more glory than God. Lastly, every church goes after the "Big 3" (Elevation, Hillsong, Bethel), which makes millions off their music. Is God pleased with this greed? Their music is mostly sound driven, lacking in much theological worship, and based to sell. When I go to church, I see people enjoying the performance but not worshipping. It's nothing more than a church-based concert performed every Sunday. I would dare ANY leader to remove the music and tell the congregation to worship the Lord. They would be like deer to headlights. Completely lost. Leonard Ravenhill said it well: The church brings the menu but doesn't deliver the food. Worship music today doesn't deliver the goods.

Seems like all of the artists are saying what they know they're supposed to say for the textbook version of Christianity but has a Christian I know it's not always that easy and black and white and there's a lot of secular artist to have a way of connecting with me and not that their glorifying sin but that is a way for me to relate to other people who aren't talking about how amazing and wonderful and great everything is because I'm not at that point in my life yet so I can't share their same experience

I’d say to the points about rhythm if the church can’t learn the song there’s a problem. Simplifying it down for the congregation is the problem. Nowadays, I mean, people learn all kinds of songs on the radio perfectly. They need to take the time to learn the song as being played and learn it properly none of these things are dream theateror Mozart. People need to quit getting away with being lazy and not understanding what they’re singing at church.

This video hit all of the points very well. Contemporary worship teams seem more interested in being superstars on stage rather than leading a truly inspired congregation. Just two examples of shallow and even unscriptural lyrics; "Reckless Love". Really? God has ordained all things according to his sovereign will. There is nothing reckless about God. Another one; "He Loves Us". I don't even know where to start on that one. The lyrics sound like a drug fueled hallucination! We need to stop the Sunday morning rock concerts and humble ourselves to give God worthy praise.
