Are you able to show the set up of your clickup portal as well?
I've since deprecated my ClickUp portal bc I find that between that & Notion, most clients feel more overwhelmed & confused using ClickUp so I've stopped using it in ClickUp. That said, you can see it in this video ua-cam.com/video/_4Fe7NoyJoI/v-deo.htmlsi=N-KRXrF35GZT2W3Y & that deprecated (no longer updated) version is still available in my Client Portal template in my shop if you wanted to use it, you're welcome to! www.launchthedamnthing.com/shop 😃
Really enjoyed the talk! It was very on point as I was working on the content strategy for my plugin.
Awesome. So glad it was helpful! 😃🙌🏻
This is gold! I just needed out for 2 days why this is better than pretty links! Just to clarify; this will not change the status of affiliate links and it still being Profitable? Also I did watch another video where she explained the necessary dash and arrow….. I so appreciate your delivery and simple explanation.
So glad you enjoyed it! I have been using this method for months now & haven't seen any negative impact on the actual referral links yet! So as long as your redirect, redirects to the full referral link you're given it should still function correctly after redirecting! 😁
I loved this video thank you for sharing 😍 is it still possible to get access to “The state of the web designer report” results :) I am so curious to see it 😊
So happy you enjoyed it! Thank YOU for telling me! YES - you can see those survey results in Paige's blog post here: www.paigebrunton.com/web-designer-salary-and-pricing-survey-results
Love that Paige does not do the Social media thing. Have to be honest the least fav part of running a business. Also like the "half drunk" method of seo. Just write content for your audience.
Hahaha! YES --me too. Her quitting social was part of what gave me 'permission' to do it too! Pretty sure I quit shortly after her announcement about it. lol --And YES! Just write good content to start with, and then you can work on getting better SEO bits & pieces along the way!
Is it ok if I have paragraph 1 text above a heading 1 text?
Good question! Technically I believe that messes with the hierarchy of importance in the HTML structure, making it appear that YOU think the P1 is more important than the H1 and so could confuse Google when it scans the site, but as long as it's not done often I've not seen any adverse side affects from doing this when I need to. 😊
Thank you!!

This is unrelated, but I was recently diving back into my Squarespace website to update it after a long break. I wanted to upload a PDF for a new lead magnet, but I can't seem to do that anymore? I've already uploaded about 10 PDFs through the files section but now it won't accept them. Do you know anything about this change? I feel lost. I appreciate your informative content!
Thank you for the kind words! 😍 Interesting! What size is your PDF? The limit is 20MB if uploading to Squarespace's files, I believe (last I checked). So this new one might just be too big? As far as I know, they still support them! Here's their help center article for more detail: support.squarespace.com/hc/en-us/articles/205813928-Uploading-and-managing-files 😃

As an introverted artist, this is really good to know! Thanks, ms. Katelyn!
You're quite welcome! 😁 Happy to hear it helped you!
I use ClickUp as my project manager for clients. But I've just migrated my website over to Squarespace so it made sense to try out this invoicing too. Proposals, invoices, and contracts! They look super professional now. I wish you could add multiple contacts to a project. Or at least update the main contact. I'm working with a client but my invoices need to go to someone else in the company. I can't really ask them to forward it to them.
Can you build funnels and landing pages in thrivecart? I’m confused with all these systems
Great question! Yes, funnels are very easy to build in ThriveCart, especially if you use one of the systems that integrate well with it. So building a funnel to deliver a free or paid item, then introducing an upsell during checkout, even a downsell if they don't do the upsell, and then connecting that person's checkout decision to the right delivery, and dumping them into your email marketing software so you can update them about new product updates for what they got + new items, sales, etc. All of that can be done with ThriveCart and one of the email marketing integrations they connect with, such as ConvertKit, ActiveCampaign, MailerLite, etc. You can also build landing pages in ThriveCart with custom domains, though I prefer to do that in my website builder and just embed the checkout or link to the checkout, because while ThriveCart's page builder is pretty good, it's still not on par with most dedicated website builders, so you can get a lot more custom with platforms like Squarespace, Webflow, Showit, Wix, etc in the design of the sales/landing page, and still connect it to your checkout. ThriveCart does offer full page checkout pages, popup checkouts from an embedded button, embeddable checkouts (no popup), and full sales page designs + checkout pages. So there's a TON of flexibility! Basically, ThriveCart is just a checkout system + learning management system (courses), which can be used along side your email marketing and website platforms for the full stack of capabilities related to the process of collecting sales & subscribers. It's the same as you'd get with something like Kajabi, but with much more customization, while lacking a few of their 'core' features (like communities), and without paying exorbitant monthly/annual pricing. The problem most people have with services like Kajabi is that they offer too much all in one, so none of their individual features are "that great" because they're not specializing in any one of them. Whereas with ThriveCart, they specialize very clearly in checkouts, funnels, and connecting your customers to other systems via native (Zapier-free) integrations. ThriveCart works very easily with any website platform too, which is basically like having Kajabi, except YOU get to pick which software you use for email marketing, which software you use for your website, and for your checkout systems + course management, and for your communities, etc. based on which options YOU LOVE to use & find the most relatable features in. Versus an all-in-one where you pay slightly less per month total ($100-300/mo) bc they do it all for you in-house, but to make that Kajabi/Kartra/FG Funnels price cost effective you HAVE to use everything in-house even if you don't like how it works or wish it offered features it doesn't have yet, etc. Hopefully that makes sense! 😁 You can see ThriveCart's list of native integrations here: support.thrivecart.com/help-categories/integrations/
@@launchthedamnthing thanks so much for such a great explanation !! That really helps🫶🫶🫶
@@launchthedamnthing I thought Kajabi was more expensive which is why I didn't choose to use it...but you are saying it is cheaper...?
@@erinjrock You're welcome! 😃 Ah, that's a good clarifying question. I've never paid for it myself & used it as a business owner (only as a student) but from what I've heard from people who have either researched switching to it from Teachable, etc or have switched to it & love it, or switched to it and then back to something else --the consensus is that it ONLY makes financial sense to pay that much per month if you plan to use all or most of the built-in features: their email marketing service, their checkouts, their community, their course platform, etc. The ONLY reason it would be cheaper, is for the folks that already have softwares & systems they love, and if considering a switch to Kajabi, don't like or want to use their email marketing, checkout systems, or communities, -just their course management platform, for example. At that cost of $150/200+ per month for just Kajabi, plus $50+/mo for ConvertKit/Kit, + $900 for ThriveCart (one-time) or regular monthly payments for SamCart, + $99/mo for Circle, etc --that gets VERY expensive, VERY quickly & makes Kajabi as a whole look cheaper vs paying for these features separately from different companies. But from what I hear, most people that use other external softwares don't want to switch to the version that's included in an all-in-one, because it's not as robust. All-in-one softwares are tricky, if they're older & have been around for a long time like Kajabi, they can offer fairly robust solutions to all of their feature sets. But typically, still, each individual feature they offer still lacks stuff that other specialty softwares offer, because Kajabi has too much going on to update & tweak, to make its Communities feature up to par with something like Circle, or their email marketing features comparable to ConvertKit/Kit --it's just not possible because they are trying to be masters of all, versus specializing in one thing. Hopefully that clarifies! It's not that it's "cheap" by any stretch. It's only cheaper if you want to stop paying monthly subscriptions to multiple third-parties & start paying 1 subscription for access to whatever you want to use in the all-in-one one platform. 😁
So relatable!
Yay! I'm so glad to hear that. Hope it was helpful for you! 😁

Thank you for the informative video! I'm currently facing a frustrating issue with my privacy policy's accordion functionality. When I click to close an accordion, the entire content shifts downward, leaving an unsightly empty space at the top. Have you encountered this problem before?
Without seeing the issue, it sounds like the content just isn't aligned to the top of the block, which is a Squarespace setting. I have a picture of that setting in this desktop vs mobile section in this blog post: www.launchthedamnthing.com/blog/5-tips-for-responsive-design-on-fluid-engine#Tip_%E2%9D%BA:_Desktop_vs._Mobile_Changes 😃

How do we add those check marks for the terms and conditions and also the checkbox to add them to convertkit list?
Good question! ThriveCart has a few how-to/support articles on those parts of set up, so I'd start with that. It's not hard, but has a too many steps to guide ya here in a comment; hopefully these will help ya work it out though! 😃 ✔ How to add the T&C checkbox in checkout: support.thrivecart.com/help/adding-terms-conditions-to-your-checkout-page/ ✔ How to add a custom checkbox in checkout for opt-ins: support.thrivecart.com/help/custom-fields/ ✔ How to integrate ConvertKit with ThriveCart: support.thrivecart.com/help/convertkit/ ✔ How to add customers to your autoresponder (in this case, ConvertKit): support.thrivecart.com/help/adding-customers-to-your-autoresponder/
I’ve been searching for this as I knew there must be some sort of order, thank you!!😊
You're welcome! So glad it was helpful! There's not a whole lot of information on it, so if you want to dive in a little further, check out the whole video & other notes here: www.launchthedamnthing.com/blog/choose-color-palette-and-edit-color-themes 😁
After you transfer ownership, is this when you get them to put in payment details and also connect their domain? Or do you do this before the transfer. Thank you :)
Yes! Exactly. Wait for them to become the owner (& before that, that they've paid you for the project), then have them subscribe to Squarespace once you've made them the owner of the site. You just design it on a free trial until then. If you're Transferring the domain from another company to Squarespace (moving the management of it from GoDaddy to Sqsp, for example), then you can only connect the domain if they pay for the domain when it's transferred -so in that case I typically wait until they are the owner & guide them through it on that same call. You can "Connect" the domain any time though, for free, because it's managed elsewhere & just 'pointing' to the new site on Sqsp. That said, you won't want to connect the domain from a live site to a 'broken' (draft/unpublished) site until it's ready in most cases, so again it's better to wait until after it's ready to 'go live' to connect it at the end, after transferring ownership, even though it's free to Connect it. Hope that makes sense! 😊
Great video Katelyn! Much food for thought. ;)
Thank you! So glad it was insightful for you. 😁
Thank you for these tips! Being able to embed my video and schedule it in a blog post before it launches on UA-cam was SO very helpful! I subscribed to learn more.
Yay! So glad it was helpful. 😁 Since I made this video last year, UA-cam has changed somethings a couple of times, but it still works! Sometimes I have to 'publish' the video to Unlisted, grab the share/embed link, and then schedule it to publish "for real" whenever I'd intended. As long as it's unlisted it will still embed wherever ya need it & stay there for a short time so it'll be in the blog post when it goes live too. 🙌 Hopefully that makes sense. LOL
@@launchthedamnthing That’s what I had to do. In fact, I had to make it Unlisted in order to get the Share option to find the Embed code. But it worked! Thank you so much!

Any tutorial on creating a new portfolio page for visual artists on a published website?
Not yet, but that's a great suggestion! You have 4 main options: 1) create it in a regular page elsewhere (in Not Linked), when you're done save all the sections, then go create the new page in Portfolio collections and apply those Saved Sections to get it done quickly while it's live. 2) Use a third-party plugin like this one to mark the page as a draft so it own't show on the live site while you're working on building it out. This is one that's worked well in the past: schwartz-edmisten.com/blog/how-to-set-squarespace-portfolio-items-to-draft 3) just learn that it's not a big deal if people see in-progress work while you're creating it; name the page "coming soon" to imply it's being built or not available yet, and build it while it's live. 4) duplicate an existing portfolio page & edit the copy to make publishing go faster bc you're not building from scratch; works great with option 3. Hope that helps! 😊
You saved so much time!
Yay! So glad it helped! 😁
GREAT hack, thanks!! Also, I have no idea why this works, but I just (A) found a template I liked, (B) searched “woff” within the Inspector of that template, (B) copy and pasted the the section that contained the “woff” files into the Custom CSS box, and (C) it worked like a charm! The entire site looks wayyyyy better. THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS!
Hahaha! You're welcome! That's definitely something I've never tried before, but so glad this helped you!! If that webfont you found in Inspect mode is NOT available in Site Styles, do make sure you go track down the web font license somewhere & grab your own, just in case; there actually are services/robots/people who search specifically for fonts being used on websites without a license & I'm not sure how they know/don't know whether we have one or not, BUT it will never hurt to have proof that you DO have the "right" to use that font on your website. Penalties seem to range between 'just buy the license now' and 'you owe us licensing fees for all the months/years you've been using that font on your site x the monthly traffic that saw it.' (paraphrased, of course) 😬😳🫣 If that webfont is for a font that IS available in Site Styles, then you don't have to worry about getting your own font license (unless you also want to use it outside of Squarespace, like in Canva, etc), because Squarespace buys the commercial use licenses for all of those fonts so that we don't have to. 😊
@@launchthedamnthing GREAT call out - thanks!!!
@@richmarshall1356 You’re welcome! 😁
Your clients buy their own domain name, right? When you start building their website, you add the domain name to your Squarespace account and when the project is completed you then transfer the rights to them? Thank you !!
Yes, they buy anything they want to own as I don't want to manage the billing for things I think my clients should have ownership for. 😁 But a domain is NOT required for trial sites, so they don't need to buy it until they're ready, and they can buy it in their own account (in Squarespace, or not) and we can connect it on or after the launch call at the end of the project when the design is finished. 😃 Here's the process on transferring the site to the client: ua-cam.com/video/UQs94uSR_Rs/v-deo.htmlsi=I53Sb0x_aK8RLtc2 Once they have ownership, then they can put in their own billing information & I can walk them through (or do it for them after the call if needed) connecting the domain to it at that point. 😊
Putting your text into one text box - game changer!! Why didn't this occur to me before?? Thank you!
Haha! 😁 It took me a while to figure out too. So glad it helped!! 😃

This was such a great tutorial and literally solved all my frustrations! I thank you endlessly!! <3 <3 <3
YAY! Thank you so much for sharing that! So happy to hear that it was helpful in solving your problems & easing frustrations. 🤩 Music to my ears!!
this is so validating, I'm trying to get out of the "I need to accept all the work I can get" phase in my business 😅 I'm curious why you prefer service based businesses over product based businesses? I have never worked with a product based business but would like to, so just wondering what to expect.
Happy to validate that for you! You can absolutely do whatever you want, but it's good to remember that not ALL work is worth the money ALL the time. Do what you need to pay the bills, but also keep your own mental health top of mind in the process so you don't burn out (bc there's no one to replace you when you're out). 😄 Good question. For me, I just hate the backend setup for products: payment processors, shipping, taxes, etc. None of that is easy to deal with, in my opinion. Plus, for larger shops I have to put a cap on how many products I'll pre-load into their store for them or the projects could potentially go on forever, and I don't "love" that experience for the client; in these cases I will teach them how to load in the rest, because they should know how to do that anyway, but it's not a 100% done-for-you process if they have to finish it up themselves. None of that is the end of the world; it's just not my preference! I also feel like I can get a bit more creative with page layouts for service-based businesses, than I can for product-based businesses because there's less structure needed for the content itself. I definitely encourage you to try it out though & see what YOU like working on best! 😃
@@launchthedamnthing this is all so helpful!! thank you for the explanation that makes so much sense

THANK YOU FOR THE TIME YOU SAVED ME 😂
hahaha --You're welcome!! 😁
Yeah, I'm SO glad to see / hear this just flat-out stated. I'd seen bits and pieces elsewhere (and feel like I may have heard you mention somewhere in your membership too?) but this was super clear, and I VERY much appreciate that :-D
Aw, yay! I'm so happy to hear that! 😁
I love this so much!!! I've been struggling to do web design because I HATE wireframing etc. I use Kadence for WP and it's built in such a specific way. I just want to hop in and start designing. I also like to write copy at the same time and have been struggling with if it's "okay" to do that. Thank you for giving me the reassurance I needed.
Hahaha! You're quite welcome. 😁
@@byamberkri ugh! Isn’t kadence the best?!?! I’ve been teaching myself squarespace for clients who need a simpler all in one solution but Kadence is my favorite ♥️
I used to share live sites but INEVITABLY the first thing they want to do is start clicking buttons and complaining they go nowhere 🙄 So I started screenshotting the pages so they can see how it looks without being able to get all clicky with it and it’s literally saved my sanity and forces them to focus on the design 🤣
Yes! That's what I do too for the Home page draft, because at that point I haven't designed the rest yet & just want to know if I'm on the right track so most buttons aren't linked yet. Markup is a great (free) place to share those full page screenshot links to get feedback vs emailing back & forth! 😁
@@launchthedamnthing I just got your client portal - can’t wait to dive into it!
