Yeah… Mario Kart 8s roster definitely has some questionable choices… At least thanks to updates and DLC every previous character is in. I wanted to say “maybe they learned” but they did add in Peachette as final character sooo…

No, I totally agree with you! I like both characters and one doesn’t need to be brought down in order to elevate the other. I think it might come from the fact that Waluigi does have a fanbase but gets denied a lot of attention from Nintendo, where as Captain Syrup doesn’t really show up at all anymore. (And don’t worry I’ve had WAY longer essays from friends and comments, I’m a yapper too as you can tell lmao. We’re just passionate about our hobbies which is great!)

Fun fact: the decision to cut Toadsworth from the movie wasn’t actually Nintendo’s. It was Illumination’s. This doesn’t change anything, but if Nintendo wanted to stick to their guns more, we might’ve seen Toadsworth again.

True, which does make me a bit sad. There are so many great picks to still choose from and I’d like to more of an approach where they pick 1 or 2 characters from different series. Like Rosalina an Luma from Galaxy or E.Gadd and Hellen Gravely from Luigi’s Mansion. That way they can also show some light on some smaller Mario games. (I kinda tried to do that in my video and I don’t think that made the roster too big or too unmarketable. Of course even then I did have to leave some choices behind)

I can see where you’re coming from, if Cappy was playable I’d like to see his sister as his partner, but Luma could be cool too! I’m still surprised that Diddy Kong isn’t in the base game, but maybe more characters could be added with DLC?

Like, regarding the Mario RPGs, the characters that appeared outside of their home RPG series were: SMRPG: Geno: Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga (thing with characters from SMRPG is that they’re in copyright limbo, since both Nintendo and Square Enix own the rights, that means the characters can only be used by the two collaboratively). Paper Mario series: Paper Mario: Star Spirits (Mario Party 5), Koopatrols (Mario Pinball Land). Tweester (Mario Party 7), Whacka (Mario Party 6), Frost Piranhas (New Super Mario Bros. U), and Goomboss (Super Mario 64 DS). I mean, if they brought Foreman Spike back for the Mario movie and if they plan on making him more relevant one day, then it’s definitely possible and I’d love to see it! The penguins are iconic and again they made a whole kingdom for them in the movie, so it’s definitely a possibility too someday!

I couldn’t have said it better lol. Classic enemies are recognizable and I do love some of them, but other characters can’t get recognizable if you don’t give them the chance to appear in spin offs. Especially since those are the games casual players will get to learn most of them and might peak interest for the games they originate from. I like Waluigi and Toadette but the recent OG characters like Pink Gold Peach and baby Rosalina are just uninspiring and unnecessary same with putting in other random Nintendo characters.

They don't even have to be from RPGs either as some claim that's we want in the roster. There's no way you can tell me people don't remember characters like Cappy, E.Gadd, or even Poplin after playing their games as they had as big of a role as Pauline did in Odyssey(who mind you is just now starting to become part of the main cast in recent spin-offs).

Thing with the Mario & Luigi series is that all its new main antagonists literally end up dying by the end of their games. Most likely, the characters we’d get from the series are likely Popple (which Tbf, no one, including me, would be complaining), and a generic Shroob. As for Warioware, I feel like some of the characters have a bit much of an art style dissonance with the mainline Mario games. Others fare well, but some… not so much. And for Paper Mario, I’d actually be all for it! Problem is that Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam retconned it into being a separate universe… that sucks… even then, fingers crossed Nintendo decide against being boneheads. And even then, I don’t see the problem with bringing in regular enemies or bosses, that feels like an absolute nothing of a criticism, since the enemies and bosses in the Mario series still brim with as much personality as the main cast. And the thing with the spin-offs is that they’re not really story driven. Most you’d really need are just a good design, because you’re not embarking on a grand quest or anything, you’re just racing or playing a board game, or playing sports, or what have you.

Plessie could be a very cool addition! They might need to tweak the model a bit since I don’t think a simple rescaling will be enough, his tail might need to be shorter ect. But it could be very cool!

At least Waluigi is more original and kinda works in context of having “evil Mario bros” But they definitely did Captain Syrup dirty and would love to see more female villains!

@@volvoman5262 Yes he is, he's cool as fuck and much more interesting than Big Boo with Crown. Also, isn't it enough that Peach, Toad and Yoshi are traditionally appealing? It won't hurt to throw in some variety. In fact, you would appeal to more people if you had both cute and (relatively) scary designs in there. It's not like King Boo is that grotesque, either

I do agree, although I do love Waluigi and it makes sense to have basically, an evil Mario Bros since Wario already existed. I kinda felt the same way when Daisy was as picked over Pauline in the OG Mario Tennis, but thanks to that we got the characters we have now (even if it took a while lol.) But I do feel bad for Waluigi being kind of forgotten about besides spin offs, and would definitely LOVE to see how Captain Syrup would do in the Mario roster!! They’ve kinda been doing her dirty too!

That totally makes sense! I will say that characters like Captain Syrup or from the M&L series can get a lot more recognizable if they get in more rosters, that’s how Waluigi gained a lot of love and how people actually want him to be in a mainline game and how many characters and franchises from smash got more popular. But it is undeniable that Bowser’s minions like regular Koopas and Goombas are instantly recognizable and definitely has their fans! (Also sorry for calling the Koopalings “Koopa Kids” I didn’t even notice and now I cringe at it lmao)

That’s what makes the Warioware series unique though that it’s technically from the Mario world but just in another part of the extended cast. Kinda like avengers for example how every main character has there own cast of side characters like Wario with his buddies.

I can definitely see that. (Growing up I was always a bit confused if Donkey Kong was it’s own series or part of the Mario cast, since his games take place in seemingly a whole different world.) But I could see it work if they give them a chance and some time passes. And having 3D renders would already blend them in more with the cast

Because people enjoy playing as other characters. What makes enemies such as Goombas, Koopa Troopas, Boos, or Shy Guys dull or generic as player characters? They’re still brimming with personality from designs alone, and in the context of Mario spin-offs, they really don’t need much of anything else. You say to bring in distinct members “so they feel like actual characters with backstories”, but that’s completely unnecessary if you’re bringing them into a roster for something like Mario Kart or Mario Party. You play those games because you wanna go fast, throw dice, and rage at your friends whenever you get hit with terrible luck, you’re not making a DnD campaign where you need the intricate backstories on each and every character. You just pick the one you like most and roll.

@@heihogreenzx4704 that’s true, I meant mostly for Nintendo; it’s the perfect opportunity to put in characters that are in mainline games or spinoffs. Like sure whatever Boo is great, but putting in characters you don’t typically see is just more interesting

Diddy Kong not being playable baffles me! If I had to guess they might keep him in case they’ll do DLC? Either way he should’ve been in the starting roster. And yes, I love Wiggler and his animations in Mario Kart and would love to see more of him!

@@danny_krow It baffles me more that Waluigi is constantly being used over and over, when he doesn't really have much personality, and that we already have a much better character in the form of Captain Syrup, who would've been like the Mario equivalent of Rouge the Bat in my honest opinion.

@@Mymy_64 The fact that Peter Piranha and King Bob-omb are notable members of their species. Even then, I see this less as an argument against adding Petey and the King and instead an argument to add Poplins.

Yeah, I think they’ve pretty much replaced DK Jr with Diddy Kong… but I’d be interesting to see him make a comeback! And that Pokey idea sounds so clever! Kinda makes me think of how Wiggler gets angry when he gets hit in MK
