The primary issue with SCP:SL is that it's NOT balanced for a horror experience. It's balanced as an SCP arcade shooter, where death has little consequence due to frequent respawns, and players are encouraged to be suicidal and screw around. If you do not value your life and know you're just going to respawn, you don't really feel as much pressure to stay alive, which takes off a lot of the tension. Not a bad thing, but it removes any real horror edge to the game.

I still enjoy playing Victoria 2 to this day, whether it's vanilla(HoD of course) or HPM mostly. To be honest at this point I'm passing on Paradox' new releases until they finish releasing all the DLCs and have massive sales, than I will get the game. No, I'm not going to subscribe to their games to get all the DLCs, god knows we have way too many subscriptions already. Heck I've even stopped playing EUIV and HoI4 after a while because I couldn't keep up with the endless DLCs and continuing to play without them just feels off considering all the other changes that come along with each DLC. So Victoria 2 and CK2 are still my jams, will return to EUIV and HoI4 after they finish releasing all the DLCs for those games and have all the DLCs on sale. Still on the fence on CK3 and Victoria3 regardless due to the changes between 2 and 3 in each, waiting to see how those games turn about before deciding whether to jump in or pass altogether.

1 year after the update, I can say with certainty that 939 has not brought back auditory horror. Most of the time the player just spams the same funny voiceline or doesent use the sound effect enough or effectively. At this point I am not even scared to make sound anymore because nearly all scps are louder than me and I can just run off closing doors on them. Not to mention that they removed the chase music.

the biggest problem with vic3 is the absolute lack of flavour. no events, missions or even a point in forming a new nation other then getting bigger.

The proximity chat, or rather the abrupt absence of, can create some horror pieces of its own, to be fair. Sure, when SL gets scary, it’s only for a brief moment, but when it does it really does. Escaping through light checkpoints with a few D-Boys and a Guard who has decided not to shoot you on sight, you reach Heavy Containment. Vic 3’s economy is terrible. It’s not a closed loop like it is in Vic 2. The actions you take and do as a nation have absolutely zero impact at all. If you went into observer mode and did nothing, absolutely nothing would change. Diplomacy is terrible and surface level at best. Warfare is a criminal sin, you can’t add war goals after the declaration of the war. The micro management is beyond tedious. Nations like the US have zero power to dictate what gets built where, modeling that in the game is not present, but it is in Vic 2. Another criminal sin. Differences in governments have no impact, the player has no impact at all on the game environment. After Imperator:Rome, this was the final nail in the coffin against Paradox. I was sooo hyped for Vic 3, then it released and I saw all of the reviews, which said the exact same thing. The game is very pretty and that’s it. Every single major paradox content creator said the exact. Same. Words. In no short order, did I lose interest in a game more than when I saw how they just didn’t think anyone would care about a skeleton of a game priced at $50 and that’s when I realized that it would just be more of the same from Paradox. Never again.
