Hiya! Yes. We’re pretty sure it’s actually a 4 litre now.. it’s had some weird expensive components fitted at some point. The front cover is a strange one as it’s a crank driven pump like you say but also takes a distributor! Either way I’m happy with how it’s now coming out. It’s in the engine bay now! I can’t remember if I’m running points of electronic ignition at the moment. Not sure which distributor I bought!

The bottom end bearings? No reason too the rear main bearing was hardly worn and the engine ran lovely when I had it. Easy enough to change at a later date. Didn’t want the cost to run away with it.

​@@Automotiveoliebetter do it all together. These engines run good with all worn bits inside.

@@Coordinator61 agreed. If it ever needs a rebuild I’ll do it in one go. Nothing I’ve removed suggests anything is massively worn.

Should be alright. Only used it as an after thought. It’s double nutted against each other so should be ok

Also forgot to mention in the video but I welded a small blob on the side and filled it down so I had to hammer the pin in so I’m happy it won’t go anywhere

Yep it all seems nice and easy. One out one in off we go! It’s the little bits that add up too. Must have over £150 just in gaskets and another £100 on bolts alone! Currently stuck as flywheel bolts were incorrect

Yep! I’d never heard of using it to prime an oil pump before but I’ve heard horror stories about getting the oil pressure up in these v8’s so thought it would be a good idea to follow the book! Thankyou for watching, commenting and support. It makes me keen to continue.

Hiya! I had this happen to me once! I used a magnet to fish the snapped part out ( may need to tap the side of the bolt with a screw driver to help release. Then if you don’t have another t50 find an Allen key that fits in. Make sure you smack it in a few times with a hammer! Good luck!

Hi mate. You slacken off the 4 hinge bolts and the latch bolts just enough to shove it into place and tighten them up while it’s in the right place

Sounds like a fun project, the big diesel engine conversions were so popular 20 years back but now people want standard. I couldn’t believe how much work it took to pull the engine out. I’m glad it’s out and I hope the v8 doesn’t take anywhere near as much effort to fit again!

No need to on the TDCI. The pump is not timed the tool is just to replicate the tension that’s lost when the pump is removed. You need to lock the flywheel on the TDDI

Parts are cheap and can be returned

Like a woodruff key? No there isn’t. It’s a compression fit and not timed so can sit anywhere on the shaft. Hope this helps

@@ferdiyurdakul no problem. The 2.2 and 2.4 TDCI are not timed pumps but the 2.4 TDDI ( earlier transit engine ) is timed. Good luck

Cheers. Is had a fortune spent on it but all I ever do is a good pressure washing with some TFR and then some cans of Waxoyl spray aerosol and it’s the best way to keep those old vans good

Hiya. From memory it’s a T50. 110mm length. I bought a set made by US pro however go for the best quality you can afford as those bolts are damn right!

@@anthonyhudson4318 the bolt which olds the disc to the hub? Either use a bolt extractor, or hammer a 12 sided smaller socket over it with plenty of WD40 or similar. I’ve never experienced a hub nut rounding off. It sounds as if it’s all really badly corroded it may be easier to source a new assembly or just keep beating smaller sockets over the problem bolts

For discs and pads or just pads? I rarely need to do the discs / they’re a pain in the ass but pads are a walk in the park

Annoyingly it was the heaviest hammer I had and I just like to be double sure it’s not going to distort or nick any surface. In an ideal world I’d use a press of some description

@@Automotiveolie Olie, I need some help! I couldn't beat the bloody yoke off of the splines! They are so seized on, I tried heating and beating and all sorts, and I just can't separate the yoke off of the splines. Destroyed the old carrier while attempting so now I am really in a bind! I tried to use the bolt that holds in the horseshoe washer to lever off, then tried to hammer a thick chisel in between the bolt and the yoke to see if that would work, but instead of separating the splines it sent the bolt back into its thread but without even turning! The bolt I am not worried about, can somehow get it out and tap a new thread once it's apart, but I CAN'T GET IT APART AAAAH HELP ME

Ouch. That sounds like a complete mess. Have you soaked it all in penetrating fluid? Have you tried attaching the yoke to an anchor point and yanking the prop ( almost like a slide hammer motion ) another option is to get a friend to help using two hammers beat the yoke at the same time so it evenly has force to move. It will come off. It wants to come off you just need to beat the thing into submission. I’ve had a few stubborn ones before but they always come off.

@@Automotiveolie It was a mess! I set about it again this morning and with enough heat and about an hour of hammering she came off! Had it soaking in penetrating fluid overnight but I don't think that did anything, it was just sheer heat and impact in the end. Thank god you encouraged me to beat off! As a consequence of my furious beating, a new chapter has opened: I think I deformed the yoke a bit and a UJ that was already a bit stiff (probably why the carrier failed) has become too stiff to run nicely, so now there's lots of vibration! Ah, fun.

@@innocuouspseudonym509 sounds like a complete nightmare! At least the yoke / UJ is a changeable part so not the end of the world. Have a look on eBay I’m sure there’s a cheap 2nd hand one on there. Well done for the perseverance though

1377907 is the Ford part number for the bearing

The short answer is because the paint I brushed on is designed for metal requiring no prep, you can even paint it directly onto rust if you want. If I’d had the money and time I’d have taken the body off the chassis, blasted all components etc. the stone chip i sprayed on the chassis and body components is a hard wearing rubberised coating which goes on uniformly with aerosol and wouldn’t look right on the running gear. It wasn’t a 100k restoration more of a build which kept the look as original and useable without breaking the bank.

Hi, ok so is your transit FWD or RWD? The FWD transits have an intermediate bearing on the drive shaft which can give you the noise you’re experiencing. Failing that it could be a faulty bearing, worn brake disc or noisy gearbox. First thing to do is get it jacked up and see if you have any play in the wheel bearing and then the service life of your brakes and keep working back untill you discover the noise! Yep, it’s the way they did it from the factory, guessing they refined it a bit in later models, the skins can always be spot welded along that join so would be invisible if the restorer wants to go that way.

There were the fender fasteners. I believe they are #12 and they are 5/8 long. I think I'm all set@@Automotiveolie

I know, I was really surprised. For now I’ve just started refitting better trims as and when I can find them, this sonar blue trim is like hens teeth!

I’d worked on one recently which ended up being scrapped because the roof was so bad so when I saw this one I was genuinely surprised. Honestly everything has surprised me with this car so far!

No, sadly it was wrecked a few years ago by a later owner. I agret to day that I didn’t bought it from my father, but at that time I had a Range Rover Classic and a 110 high cap who needed my attention😉
