This model 500 mk 3 had 1 deadly design fault .the side stand would not flip up if accidentally left down ,Concerquently it would dig into the road surface on the first left hand corner .Deadly .

I own one so im biased, but really just 3k??? Assuming it doesnt need a bunch of work its worth at least 3 times that. It was yamaha's first 4 cylinder bike, it won a bunch of stock endurance races, and it was part of the era that led to the super bikes of the 80s/90s which eventually led up to present day superbikes. Sorry for the rant, but $3000 is just ridiculous. Its so hard to get people to see what theyre looking at.

I grew up on them. Got my motorcycle license on my 14th birthday and wheelied away on a piped-up 1971 H1. Both being in bone stock trim, the 500cc ones were funner to ride. They were just as quick from a dead stop and around town, and were lighter, more flickable, and as a bonus, were much, much cheaper to purchase. They were practically giving them away. I owned half a dozen of them back in the day. I rode lots of the H2 750's too, but just couldn't justify the additional cost of owning one over the 500. Unless you were going to spend big bucks hotrodding it, the 750 just wasn't worth the extra cost to me. Of course knowing what I know now, I wish I had bought every one that came availabe at the time and stuck them in the garage until now.

I remember as a 10-13 year old kid early 80s reading the classifieds in the Swedish motorcycle magazines, where TZ 250 and 350 were very common, asking price a few hundred dollars. RG500 also, maybe double that price, and few times a year a few TZ750 for another few hundred dollars. Not expensive. And often heaps of parts came with it.

In the late 80’s, early 90’s, I remember three NS400’s in second hand shops in Elizabeth Street,Melbourne, Australia. They literally were there for years. Those and two Ducati MHR900’s. No one wanted them. Reasonably priced, but just unfashionable.

3 friends had,2 were Rothmans colors,the other i think it was painted.Rode one of the Rothmans,2nd seized #3,the other one i lost track of it...Brother had a 91 rgv,another friend had first a TZR125 and then a 250...fun bikes,no engine brake whatsoever,and the police didnt like them at all
