Spring Fly Fishing Loch-style on Arthur's Lake Tasmania.
Another @TassieTroutGuy fishing session on Tasmania's glorious Highland Lakes. Like most sessions this season wind was the overwhelming feature. The fish proved difficult to locate early on, with a move into the shallower shoreline proving the winning strategy.

Several big brown trout landed whilst fly fishing Tasmania's Penstock Lagoon in late September

It was a productive fly fishing session yet again in very windy conditions on Penstock. Managed to land several nice browns with the aid of my Hardy Ultralite 10ft 6wt fly rod using a 3 wet fly rig.

Another tough early season Penstock fly fishing session with very cold and windy conditions. The plus side of the conditions was I got to cover a lot of water Loch Style wet fly fishing with the drough out, and ended up with some steady action- losing more at the boat than landing!

An absolutely epic session 10 days into the 2024 brown trout season. Amazing action with wet fly takes and a nice nymph eat. Calamity hits a couple of hours into the session, with the real threat of losing my new boat on the lake.

In very tough conditions I finally manage to christen the new boat with several beautiful trout on the fly. It was a season opening weekend that saw plenty of wind, some sleet and snow, and the occasional ray of sunshine.

I bought a boat! Why?
Переглядів 1155 місяців тому
Quick video to update you on my thought processes which led to me pulling the trigger on my first tinny. Buying a tinny has been on my mind for a while now as I do more and more lake fishing through FFA Competitions. Loch style fly fishing is the style of lake fly fishing that we are required to do for comps, and a boat is paramount for me to gain some regular exposure to it.

A mostly unedited grab of around the first 40 minutes of my session from Sunday August 6th, day 2 of the 2023 season. There were a couple of camera glitches which meant I missed some of the takes. Plenty of fish caught over the short period though, so please be patient and watch to the end.

On the money mate, rivers have been awfully disappointing up North. Wasted a lot of time for hardly any fish. Difference in comparison to the last couple of seasons is huge

Thanks. I loved it until this week when I went to attach it to my reel at Penstock but the foot seems to have bent, making it impossible to attach. The same reel had to go back to Hardy because the foot just fell off weeks after I bought it- the screws just fell out. Apart from that it is a really nice reel to use with a silky drag.

G'day . Started out with a Di5 and then switched to a 3 Sweep. I reckon from the shore you are best starting with a floating if they're up and about. If no surface activity, then maybe try a sink tip or intermediate. Fishing full sinking lines from the shore can be problematic.

Nice to see so many fish! I fished mainly above that bridge in December and caught a few fish. Saw a Platypus off the bridge at dusk and Tiger snakes which made my day. I used a dry/dropper rig from the side of the river as I have mobility problems and the river was so slippery. I met a Scottish angler and some friendly Tassi folk and really enjoyed my three-week holiday, including my son's wedding in the highlands. What sort of Perdigon do you use? I have been tying a few for the World Flyfishing Champs in Slovakia so any variation I might get would be helpful. Regards from NZ.

Hi John. Apologies for the late response, but my earlier response didn't publish for some reason. Thanks for watching my very amateur production! I also fished the stretch above the bridge this particular day last week, and also happened upon a tiger snake- my first of the season. I am more than happy to encounter the many platypus on the Tyenna, but the snakes I would rather not cross paths with. Sorry to hear of your mobility issues, but at least you get to exercise your passion from the bank. Dry dropper is such an effective rig- I was using the perdigon under my dry. Please PM me for details on the perdigon. Cheers, Guy
