Whatever you use just needs to be able to send cc messages on specific ccs. So you shouldn't have a problem setting it up on an MPC Live or in Ableton.

I would say that they don't have much in common aside from the fact that they can both record samples at different rates and both will do a bit of aliasing if you start pitching things around. Even there, it's a bit different since the Sampletrak can do 32 or 16 kHz, whereas the Lofi 12 can do 24 or 12. It's also a different workflow. The Lofi 12 feels a bit more like the Digitakt with its 8 tracks, the step sequencer, and the parameter locks. I would say it's clunkier to use than the Digitakt but about as powerful. That said, I wish the Lofi 12 had something like the pad system on the Sampletrak. The slice mode is cool, but it's not as easy and flexible as the pads on the Sampletrak are. It's also easier to just try things out in the Sampletrak since you don't really have to think about file management. But the flip side of that is that you can't just load up your favorite samples while you work. Overall, I think the Lofi 12 is great. But if I were looking for something that functioned more like a portable Sampletrak, I'd take a look at the Roland P6 or the Teenage Engineering EP-133. I haven't used either one so I can't speak to them personally, but just going by the videos the workflow seems closer on those machines..but I guess those also don't work off of SD cards.

Oh yeah, one weird thing that's missing on the Lofi 12 XT that you should know going in is that you can't play a sample in reverse. I'm pretty sure the original can but this one can't for some reason.

Nope. You can slice a sample or play it as a one shot. But you can't do things like copy slices or put together a kit of one shots on a track. You can do that in the sequencer. So you can have a kick and a snare sample on the same track, for example. But it's not the same as being able to just put whatever you want on the pads like the Sampletrak.

Nope. I chopped up a drum break on the Lofi 12. But everything was sequenced from the Digitakt.

The Digitakt is triggering the pads on the Lofi 12. So the sequencer on the Lofi 12 isn't running.

Right! I was hoping for a way to sync and trigger patterns/sequences on the 12 XT. That would open up an amazing world of possibilities for working with both!

I'm glad you found the video helpful. And I'm glad you liked that particular sound. Here's the recipe. If I don't mention a parameter, you can just leave the default value. I've got algorithm 2, harmonics at 4.06, feedback at 79, X/Y at -23. I have C and A offset at +.01, and B1 and B2 offset at -.01. On the next page, I've got A at 28. The attack is 0, the decay is 38, and the end is 96. For B, I've got the level at 47. For the filter settings, I'm using LP4. I've got the cutoff at 78, the resonance at 12, and the envelope depth at 13. The filter envelope attack is 8, the decay is 25, the sustain is 68, and the release is 0. I've also got the base width filter at 34 to shave off some of the lows. For the amp envelope, I've got the attack at 7, the decay at 39, the sustain at 21, and the release time at 38. For LFO 1, I have the wave shape set to sine and the destination set to sync mix, with a depth of 9.45. For LFO 2, I have the speed set to 10, the multiplier set to 16, the fade set to -14, the destination set to amp volume, the shape set to wave, the mode set to trig, and the depth set to -15. And finally, for the velocity mod set up, I've got syn lev A at 23, filter resonance at 52, filter frequency at 28, and syn mix at 20. Key tracking is also at 100.

I think that if you can get with the workflow you'll get a lot more out of a Digitakt. The sequencer is a lot more powerful. There are a lot more sound design options. And the MIDI tracks will help you get more out of the rest of your set up. All that said, you've already got a Circuit Tracks so you know how portable it is. And as much power as you get working with the Digitakt, the Circuit Rhythm can be a lot faster. For example, the Rhythm has a proper slice mode whereas the Digitakt just has a grid slice. That said, as you know from the Tracks, sample management is kind of a pain on the Circuits. So yeah, I'd recommend the Digitakt

I'm the wrong person for this question. I don't really like the SP series all that much in the first place, especially the 303 and the og 404. (I've got the 404 mk2 but I'm probably going to sell it.) So I would definitely prefer the Digitakt. But I don't know how helpful that is.

You can probably get a used Digitakt mk1 for about the same price as a used MPC One. Also, if you want to play around with the MPC software, you can download MPC Beats for free and use your Rhythm as a controller. It works pretty well. As far as the comparison goes, I prefer my Digitakt. The Rhythm is stripped down in terms of things like envelopes and filter options. Plus, the Digitakt's LFOs can do things that the Rhythm (and the MPC for that matter) just can't do. I also can't stress enough how much I like the MIDI tracks. It makes all of my other gear that much better to work with. All that said, I actually like the sound of the Rhythm in terms of both the machine itself, the pitch algorithm, and the filters a bit better than the Digitakt. Sampling and resampling is also a lot faster on the Rhythm since you don't need to name or file anything. So I think I'm more open to sampling new things when I'm using the Rhythm. Finally, it's important to remember that the Digitakt only has a grid slice. It doesn't have proper sample slicing like the Rhythm or the MPC. I do all my sample chopping with parameter locks.

Yeah, I wish they would have added a way to add resonance on the high pass filters. But it's cool for what it is. And yeah, every Circuit Rhythm beat that I've got up here is running through the Digitakt's compressor

Yeah, there's a bass multi fx pedal that Zoom put out back in the day that I've always been kind of curious about just because it looks like the sibling to the Sampletrak.

Unfortunately, the pitch and the start point of the pads are not parameters that can be controlled over MIDI. So there isn't a way around having to use multiple pads for each sample slice.

No. This was a sound that I made on the Digitone and then recorded and saved as a wav file so that I could use it in Serato. The only person that I can think of that uses turntables to control their synths is Kypski. But he uses modular stuff. And I'm not sure how any of that works.

The Sampletrak is a lot like the SP series. They're phrase samplers, so you can put whatever samples you want on the pads. There's a lot less sample time on the Sampletrak. But you can pitch individual pads. The only SP that can do that is the 404 mk2.

Yeah, if you're just running the audio in from another sampler then you can process that audio as a stereo signal. So you can trigger a stereo sample over MIDI and run it through the Digitakt's reverb, delay, and compressor
