I'm O'neill clan too
My maternal 11th great-grandfather was Hugh O'Neill, according to AncestryDNA and 23andMe.
🎶 You betta cALL TYrone
I'm an O'Neill and proud of it! And you should 100% visit Tyrone, it's an amazing County.
I’m related to the O’Neill Vikings, in fact I’m related to neil of the nine hostages
Irish dna may be scattered round the world but it’s blood and spirit remains forever embedded in their Irish homeland…
Cheers, feckers. The name means "oh nuts"
Nice Freemason handshake lads
where are my far brothers and sisters
Just found through my Y-DNA, R-M222, that I am an O'Neill (O'Neal) by paternal heritage.
Eamonn O'Neill signing in from Texas(?), Can only trace my family to Charles O'Neill, b 1791 in Tyrone, my father Peter , also in Tyrone , Dirnan, Lissan Co Tyrone born 1913. I guess my family has been in Tyrone since Hugh O'Neill fled with the Earls. Is there anyone on this post a historian still active in O'Neill history in 2023 ?
Im an o'neill born and raised in ireland. My dad is from tyrone.
I got the history,,,
I am the great great granddaughter of Con and Matthew s line directly. I live in NZ and am one of the Spanish Habsburg O'Neills .They thought my grandfather was dead after the earthquake in Lisbon but not so.They hid him and took him to Cork. His son came to NZ . I have found my Grandfathers story he told me when I was five to be true and am very proud to be an O'Neill.
The “genealogist” and “experts“ saw you coming . More money than sense . 🤦♀️😂🤣 God love the foreigners - ex pats . Believe any auld nonsense and will pay for it. Great great grand child .lol you are talking 1800s , not before 1601 . 🤦♀️😂 By 1601 many of them had married into the English big whigs Always find it funny with those who make grand claims about being from important families … do the “experts” ever just go , “sorry, your Sept (not you personally ) were quite ordinary, serfs to their over lord etc etc “ . Nope , they will tell ya who one is related to the actual big dogs , after passing them coin . 🤣
The Irish Chieftains were a fearsome force, but just hadn't got the numbers the British Invaders had.
Even yet you can't throw a stone in Co Tyrone without hitting an O'Neil
Why call the Irish rebels they were the rightful owners of the land they had endured the 9 years war ,plantations, and genocide it's a miracle the gaels enudured through all of the 17TH century thankfully history is not always written in stone and imperialist view of history sustained ad infinitum!
That's funny. History tells us the people you call 'the rightful owners of the land' were invaders from a previous time. Rebels is the correct words because the King was the law of the Land. There have been two peoples on this island from before Roman times.
Neil mc neils
I am a McHugh , the sons of Hugh and I been sent to tell you that the battle continues
Yaaarrrrrrrr
23 and Me brought me here to find my ancestors! 🍺😎👍
Clan O’Hagan, Lords of Tullaghoge, Chief Brehons, custodians of the Tullaghoge Fort, inaugurators of The O’Neill by hereditary right, inhabiting County Tir Eoghain in Tullaghoge near Cookstown for centuries, enters the chat to pay respects to his O’Neill brethren.
I’m an O’Hagan too
@@Gennadios941 pleased to meet you, brother!
Don't forget the McLaughlins ruled Ulster as well, Its not all about the O'Neills.
so did the o donells, but it was the o neils that fought battles to safeguard everyone on the island and preserve the gaelic legacy.
I always refer to it as Tulach Óg and it could mean the "Hill of Youth" or the "Hill of the Warrior". It was once the inauguration place of the UíTuirtre Chieftains the O'Flynn's and the Chieftains of the Federation of Oriel. When the UíTuirtre lost the territory to the ever expanding Hy Neill clans they took the original stones of the 'Wizards Chair' with them and reinstalled them at their new inauguration place on Dunmull Hill in Dál Riada (Antrim). The 'Wizards Chair' remained at Dunmull until the Anglo Normans arrived and relocated it.
do you know where the anglo normans took the druids chair?
@@katinss9983 I always tell people that they took it back to London and it got built into the throne room in one of their castles. My friends in the Commonwealth I say that if I ever got invited to Windsor Castle for tea (which is unlikely) I would be keeping an eye out when visiting the bathroom to see if I could spot it!
@@backbeatpat yes, I heard that the cap stone was taken from the hill of Tara and is placed beneath the coronation seat in Balmoral or wherever the brits have their ceremony. They their bed so much from Ireland, and used it for what they couldn't access through divination.
@@katinss9983 If I recall correctly it was an Irishman who invited them over!
@@backbeatpat what century are you referring to?
Sharp commentary in the comments below. I always refer to it as Tulach Óg and it could mean the "Hill of Youth" or the "Hill of the Warrior". It was once the inauguration place of the UíTuirtre Chieftains the O'Flynn's and the Chieftains of the Federation of Oriel. Rm222 here!
The last of the old Gaelic chieftains fighting for his country’s freedom, I’m northern Irish but full scale respect to this man and all of Ireland.

@@vestty5802 yes but he was doing that to gain their trust and keep his planned rebellion a secret

You're a trip. How the f are you gonna claim my family as your ancestors? I find people like you cruel and mean. My family is black. You know the real Oniels we're forced out our country to give to white people. And you went along w it. Well I'm here to reclaim my family. Claim your own ancestors. But you don't have any.
Same here.
Many of the O’Neills caused the problems for the Gaels (and old English who were now Gaels ) all over the country, sometimes actually fighting with the English against Gaels eg Cork .
The O'neill's have been glorified in history. However, there has been plenty of historians who argued they heavily taxed their subjects to fund their lifestyle and endless battles with other families, ruled with an iron fist, and the plantations were in effect a liberalisation of Tyrone. Protestant undertakers were very willing to take on catholic tenants who paid rent rather than relentless taxes.
They sided with English when it suited them red hugh was raised by the English
@@finneire2081 They had complicated positive relations for a long time with the crown.
JS2000 they were no better than the politicians of today . It was all for themselves and when the shit hit the fan the sailed away and left the lower class to suffer the onslaught of the crown . The Gaelic system was its own worst enemy no unity they could be bought and sold for English gold and silver
@@finneire2081 Yes, its completely nonsense the idea that they were some glorious Irish family dynasty for a beautiful era that abruptly ended. They were arrogant and ruthless. On the plus side, their descendent Hugh Dubh O'neil handed Cromwell's army their biggest casualties and forced a retreat on Day 1 in Clonmel! Unfortunately for him, he was too low on ammunition for Day 2, so he slipped out the back!
JS2000 yes you are right For me I think the greatest victory of all was at Benburb under Owen roe. They should have turned south after that and invaded Dublin
What about the "long sword," ...👊🤴🖕
I'm from the march. Don't ever speak ill will toward my family.
