    Well shit. I just had an appliance repair guy here today to figure out what's wrong with my 8 year old Whirlpool dishwasher. Long story short, I'm replacing it. When I asked him what brand I should go with he said Bosch for longevity. Now I don't know what to do lol.

    • @poodledad
      @poodledad 6 годин тому

      Appliances are quite the crapshoot. I think Bosch had a bad batch of the 800s. Maybe they've fixed the door issue but my friend who bought the one in this video has been getting "clean filter" error and it doesn't seem to go away no matter how often she cleans the filter. Hard to know what to recommend.

    We have only had our Bosch 800 about 2 months. This morning I could not get my dishwasher to start. I checked the manual and there wasn’t a troubleshooting page. Grrr. Glad I found your video. I think it’s a bracket issue. I was able to get it to finally start by leaning on the door to get it to close more firmly and seal, and therefore finally start. I’m going to have to keep an eye on it though to make sure it doesn’t wobble loose mid-cycle. Bummer we’re dealing with this issue when we thought we were buying top of the line.

    I bought one of these dishwashers 2.5 years ago. I was not able to find a sensible way to install the mounting clips, so I have a bit of a wobble issue. It also took a bit of practice to get the thing to start correctly: carefully press the center of the Power button, then carefully press the center of the Start button, then carefully close the door. But now, it's not an issue. I have not had any of the other problems you discuss. I love this appliance, especially since it's so quiet you can't tell whether it's running. When it dies, I am going to get it stuffed and mounted in the family room above the fireplace.

    I just returned from a long (3200+ mile) trip through British Columbia in a 2022 Thor C-Class XL with a Ford E450 motor, and everything you said was right on the money. The longest part of the trip I drove was around 7 hours (with several stops along the way to stretch the legs, have something to eat and drink, take pictures), but it was actually a lot easier to do that I thought it would be. Particularly backing into a spot. That camera turned out to be useless most of the time, because it's not pointed towards the driver, and when sunlight hits the cab you can't see anything on it. I'm used to using the door mirrors anyway. But yeah, getting out and having a look around to see the clearance and get an overall feel for the size of your site and any obstacles, is something I would recommend too. If you're an experienced driver, a quick walk-around is all you really need. I laugh every time I notice the rearview mirror inside the cab, which is completely useless on a vehicle with a closed rear end. One road in particular I had to drive over was 100% gravel and bumpy, and was like driving over a 3 mile long cattleguard, only worse. One of the side windows shook free of its lock and slid open, one of the shelves inside a kitchen cabinet popped loose and dropped overthing off of it which then came tumbling out as soon as I opened it for inspection. And all this doing 5 mph. The longest drive of my life! The arm rest on the driver's seat is too low for me, as the driver, to actually enjoy. I don't know how other drivers ever used it, but in my opinion it should be raised 2 inches and then I could rest my arm on it while driving. I found this vehicle's fuel consumption, for a V-10 motor, to be better than the manual described. Maybe it's the clear mountain air of BC that did it, maybe it was my driving, but the manual said I could get around 370 miles out of a full tank (54 gallons), but I managed to get almost 500 miles out of a full tank. I know driving continuously for long periods is good for fuel efficiency, as opposed to lots of stop and go driving, but improving the fuel use by that much? Did Ford just get it wrong? This was my first solo trip in any size rv, but it won't be my last. I had a blast out there, driving literally around the Rockies, BC into Yukon, touching the Alaska border, seeing remote lakes, glaciers, and lonely highways with lots of wildlife, a little boondocking along the way, and much more comfortable behind the wheel than I could have been in a regular car. My brother-in-law calls what I did "glamping", because he prefers sleeping in a tent that he can put in the back of his pickup, but I like being a bit more comfortable, and this really was just that. I enjoyed your video, and now regret not making my own. I'll have to work on that.

    • @poodledad
      @poodledad 23 дні тому

      Sounds like a lot of fun! That sounds like pretty good MPG. I use a scangauge E which tracks fuel consumption. I usually get around 8 mpg. You should definitely make a video!

      Well jury is still out on this brand new one but my friend did call that she is already getting an error code on her Bosch after just 2 months. But that code isn't related to the door seal. It's about cleaning the filter which she says she has done multiple times. The big question for me is whether they've addressed the door seal issues that can lead to stopping mid cycle or the watertap error.

      Absolutely, let's go for it. If we partner together there's no stopping us. This video about getting more ice is just the beginning. Skys the limit.

      Not sure but I would go to there website and see what they have listed under accessories. I don't have much experience with Kenmore refrigerators.

    My 800 is 4 years old has had one issue,a big one,the E07 code which costs over $500 to correct. A $1200 dishwasher needs a major repair at only 4 years.

      Dang. What does that error code point to?

      @@poodledad The Zeolite circulation fan. To get to the fan they have to completely remove the dishwasher from the cabinet. I just had the service tech here this morning and it took about an hour to repair. I was lucky that he found that the plastic tube that goes from the base of the washer up the back to the top was partially melted and had to be replaced,there’s a recall for this part so that was not charged against me and the call out fee which was $165,or my bill would have been over $700. At that point I would have just bought a new washer. I had kept my 800 in as clean a shape as I could so it looked very nice. Apparently if the zeolite doesn’t get enough air flow it overheats and melts the plastic tube. My zeolite chamber was replaced too. All the parts that were replaced now are covered under a 1 year warranty if there is another failure. I hope I get another 5-10 years out of this.

    Well done and congratulations. The deck looks great. You highlight the challenges that so many of us face when trying to accomplish home improvements. Looks like you found your way through and achieved a great result. I think with what you have learned, you could probably build the stairs yourself. Timber frame with more of you composite decking as the top surface of the steps. The hard part is probably continuing the black railing down the stairs.

      Thanks. yes, so I ended up doing the stairs in a similar manner to the deck. I had the same contractor do the structure (posts, stringers, concrete base on bottom). Then I did the decking. And you are right that the rail is challenging. I ended up having him install that too. It would have taken me weeks. I do have a video up with some details about the stairs.
