This is one of the last uploads remaining, thanks for saving it.
Of course being Canadian I can tell you about at least 3 more hits... Moonbeam, Hey Man, and also a solo song from Ivan called Open Your Eyes. Guess it didn't go out of the country.
This video got me into the men without hats, great band
The other Euro hit is also a famous melody for football (aka soccer) chants. As a watcher of the world's game, you hear it ALL. THE. TIME.
I never would've guessed they were Canadian. I never associate Canada with New Wave.
Is Kat Ledger Keiths' wife?
Was this DMCAed or did Todd just remove it? I don't remember seeing this one on his channel
You’re a godsend for this reupload
*without
It's amazin how Jon managed to find so many great rappers and a chorus guy for these masterpieces
Todd's been doing this shit for a decade+ wtf
9:05 saying this is cultural appropriation. You didn't grow up in Canadian public school. You weren't subjected to this every year in winter through mandatory french classes. You don't know d'ananas. You don't know real trauma 👿
Yeah this guy should be laughed at, but your fundamental misunderstanding of the term "raw" in this sense isn't about bruising or abrasions or soreness, it's about his willingness to cop an oral disease by using his tongue on women. I hope you will meet an actual woman one day and have to make these decisions.
Why was this deleted from his channel?
was video quality really that bad back then? I don't remember it being so bad. I guess we just had nothing to compare it with
4:47 Todd invents the white woman jumpscare
The video reminds me of Johann and Peewit, the comic and animated series by Peyo where The Smurfs got their start. I was very little when "The Safety Dance" came out so I am actually more familiar with them through "Pop Goes The World" and only later learned that they also did "The Safety Dance."
All this time I could’ve swore Devo sang this song
Todd, what you lack in production values, you make up for in research, wit, and snark. Like!
Pop Goes the World is a popular chant at soccer/football games.
I Like and Where Do the Boys go are fantastic tracks. The Saftey Dance video was shot in a village called West kington in Wiltshire. Still there never changed you can see it on Google street view.
Ohhhh "Pop Goes the World," was in "Date with an Angel!" 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Thank you for totally loving music
Dude you are all over it, I grew up in the 80s and I never understood why people would get crazy to this, but then slow dance to Boston after it ..
Oh my gosh that is hilarious men without work..
lol these old videos are funny. You get so snotty.
Ah, Bonhomme. I'm from Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada and can say that the only reason I know who Bonhomme is is because of elementary school French class. I can tell you that the name translates to "Good man" though.
Ivan's love of prog can be seen on that 90s Men Without Hats album as the cover art text uses the same look as Genesis' logo during the early 70s and one of the tracks is named "The Van der Graaf Generation Blues"
the singer is literally wearing a hat at 2:53 !
"Men Without Hats" Well that was a fucking lie.
The idea of synth-pop being the new folk music was way ahead of its time, now that it's as cheap for bedroom musicians to use synths as it is to buy acoustic guitars.
Pop goes the world was much better
TBH, I can see why Todd hasn't re uploaded this himself, it's not one of his best OHW videos
As a Canadian I hate this song sooo much
Pop goes the world became a football ("soccer") anthem, if I'm not mistaken. Great vid amigo
Maybe Todd doesn't know it, but disparaging Bonhomme is a flogging offense in Canada.
As a Canadian I have both strong memories of Pop Goes the World and Bonhomme who use to come to my elementary school.
5:46 And a few years later, Tadd talked about "Rock Me Amadeus", which was a tribute to Mozart, with a catchy beat
I. Love. This. Song.
5:59 actually "Der Kommisar "is actually about avoiding Dirty Cops
when i was a kid, for a brief time between the ages of 12 and 13, MWH were my favourite band...this album specifically...before I found punk rock in 1985. Pop Goes The World is still pretty good, too, tho. Go figure, they were punk adjacent. My other favourite was The Gogos who i later found out also emerged from the punk scene. I guess I was destined for punk, it just took a while to find it.
I remember thinking that the safety dance video was actual historical footage when I was 5.
That's ridiculous! The only movie cameras they had in the Middle Ages were black and white.
My friends and I always assumed it was about safe sex, because pretty much everything was about safe sex in the 80's.
The thought of Def Leppard making gangsta rap is too hilarious for words
Taco Grande is 500 times the song Rico Suave is.
TIL where the comedy group Les Bleu Poudre found all those Bonhomme Carnaval costumes to smash with frying pans in the nineties.
Or as they are now known - 'men without jobs'.
Does loving a Dwarf running through tall grass make me a bad person?
Love how when you're introducing the lead singer, he's pictured wearing a hat (while the captions beneath him says "Men Without Hats").
What about the song Sideways
When I heard that Sideways intro guitars I was hooked. Don't really care that New Wave electronic stuff, but I looked up few songs from Sideways, and it sounds absolutely great album. I didn't want to spoil that too much, as I have to get that one on CD. I don't really get Todds reaction though? It's not really album you could compare to their previous stuff anyways... So what's the funny thing? With quick listening it reminds me of REM's Monster, and that is one of my all time favorite albums.
