Giant Model Railroad Layout Tour - CN Branchline Operations in Midwestern Ontario in 1977
This is a tour of a 1500 square foot basement empire that I was fortunate to collect some footage from before it was torn down, moved and rebuilt. With the help of the owner, this video covers operations as they existed in and around 1977, including the placement of many prototype photos to compliment the tour. The layout to near completion, took almost 30 years to build, and has hosted many operating sessions over this time. The handlaid track is a faithul representation of how the trackage and traffic was at the time. The scenery really gives that rural mid-western Ontario feel. The focus of the layout is Stratford, Ontario, and the CN branchlines that fed out from there until their abandoment. The Goderich Subdivision (now Genesse and Wyoming's Goderich Exeter Railway), Guelph, and Fergus subdivisions are all thats left in 2024.
Take a step back in time, and enjoy this masterpiece.

Sunrise to Sunset on the Slaton - HO Scale Model Railroad Operations

Every once in a while you stumble across a little gem. This video is one of them, because it was my first attempt at a layout operations video way back in early 2017. It's no masterpiece, but I feel it is worth sharing. The layout was just beginning to take on an identity of its own, and as incomplete as it was, it formed the basis to what I have have today, some 7 years later. Small steps over...
Realistic Model Railroad Operations: Part 2 - My Train Schedule and Plan

Part two in my guide to realistic model railroad operations takes the concepts from part one and shows how I have applied them to create my own schedule. Planning for operations requires a little more than a schedule. To that point, what I've done in this video, is show how freight traffic moves across my layout, by following train MAMTE to Temple, and then the flow of cars out of Temple Yard, ...
Realistic Model Railroad Operations : How To Design Train Schedules

Model railroads designed and built to support operations require a well thought out plan. In order to achieve realistic and achievable operations, one of the first things to consider is of course, the prototype, or a prototypical operating plan. If you can't use real life scenarios, you'll need to figure out how a schedule would fit within the space available to you, and ultimately, the time th...

Tried watching and wanted to let you know my reason for the thumbs down and not subscribing. The good stuff: beautiful layout and scenery with very nice rolling stock and locomotives. Also good that there isn’t lots of camera shaking and moving around so fast that the viewer gets dizzy - that was performed very well, thank you. The bad stuff: It was a little boring in comparison to many other similar channels I subscribed to - very quiet, no music, no dialogue, just pretty scenes but very quiet and slow almost putting me to sleep with such a lack of even minimal pizazz , not trying to be mean but just so slow and boring…

I've delayed creating my HO layout for several years, and when I finally thought I had the right house to build it, had to make another move, and so I sold more than half of my motive power, maybe 70% as everything is boxes, and now only have a small spare bedroom to work with. However, after looking at your layout design, and talking with my wife, without even mentioning your video to her, she suggested a split level design. So, I am going to maybe start with a small staging area, like one that is near the Fullerton, CA Amtrak station, so I can enjoy seeing a passenger train on the siding closest to the station, and watch road switchers, pass by on the mainline. So, much appreciated, and * subscribed *

Very interesting and great work, especially the equipment weathering. One suggestion, on the ends of many TOFC loads (but not all), the front and rear ends have vertical streaks of a dirty grime and muddy look, possibly a result of residue from miles and miles of riding a flatcar. This small bit would not be (and is not) noticed by an operating crew busy with watching overall runnin, signals, speed, rules, anticipating what is next on the list, communicating with the dispatcher, etc. (What color of ballast? What fence, field, type of bridge, etc.?) A crew is usually too busy running to notice the nuance of the the surrounding landscape. Operation of a train is very different from observation of the train and the landscape around it.
