Sailing Fishcake
Приєднався 31 жов 2011
Gooooood morning and welcome to my channel!
Main focus on this channel is making sailing videos and exploring the places I visit. I try to keep it simple and real without too much drama.
My current goal is to sail to Faroe Islands in summer of 2024.
I started sailing in 2019 when I sold my car to buy my first 26ft. sailboat without any previous sailing experience. You can see a video of it if you scroll way back.
A year later, I’ve decided to take the leap and started saving money for a Caribbean adventure by living onboard my newly purchased 31ft. Alo 96 (Fishcake). 2 years later I just did that but now in 2023, I’ve sold Fishcake in the Caribbean.
A boatless Dennis didn’t last long…After selling Fishcake and working for half a year i went ahead and purchased my current boat Mikkelangelo. So now I’m broke but happy again!

In this episode, I’m finally setting off for Shetland Islands. I have been planning this trip for a whole year and worked very hard to make my new boat ready for it. It finally happened! Besides some seasickness issues, the boat and the equipment performed remarkably well. There’s several reasons to seasickness that I experienced; Coffee pre-departure, anxiety from not knowing how the boat woul...

First of all, sorry about the sound levels! In this episode, we are continuing our trip from Kristiansand to Just outside of Flekkefjord before heading towards west coast, which will be the next episode. I’m having some sound issues but it will get better as I get better at editing with time. Thanks for watching!

A little sailing trip and failing at crab fishing 🦀
Переглядів 1,2 тис.9 місяців тому
The spring is finally here! Testing the boat with its new gadgets and equipment. Stayed on anchor for the first time and diesel heater kept me nice and warm all night. No luck on crabs but that was my fault for not doing it right but that’s how we learn! Experimenting with some new filming techniques and frame rates. Filmed and edited on IPhone 14.

Hello! I still have more projects to do like, installing solar panels, new main sail, lazy bag . But the weather was quite bad to do outside projects until now. Plans: This years main goal will be sailing to Faroe Islands. I will of course make videos about sailing in Norway. Also want to try some different style videos instead of just usual vlogging. Me and Martha have sadly broken up quite a ...

Skiing down to my boat to clear the MASSIVE snowfall ⛷️☃️⛵️

Starting from New Year’s Eve, it snowed non-stop for 6 days straight. Resulting in more than 1 meter snow within the first 3 days :ooo. All the cars were scattered around and got stuck. Public transport is out of order, people can’t go to work or more like, people can’t even open their doors… So I had to save my boat from overwhelming snow it had on top and the most reliable and fun way of gett...

You guys are so smiley and happy I love it!! Stay safe! ❤
Ok, so you show us that on regular days , you spend yor time reading, playing cellphone games, playing chess n just chilling. SO, what about tidying the mess and clutter below decks. Clothes, towels, equipment everywhere just screwed up. The carpet you showed when you found the flyingfish was,an absoloute disgrace. And, clean your bloody kettle n your stove.
That was a super calm passage. Great job
Crossed once Plymouth to Corpus Christi in a GK29, then the next year a Fisher 25 from Chichester to Bermuda. Eleven transatlantics in all, plus five times across the South Pacific. In 2025 I have another 9,000 mikes planned.

What batteries are you using ? And what solar?
It was just a cheap set of 2x100ah lithium batteries and a single 360w panel on solar arc +80 w panel on deck. Can’t remember the brand but it was the cheapest I could find
What was the name of the place you made landfall? Great video, we did this trip in July, but arrived in Bergen
Brandesund 🙌
I am 37 and also have a small (34ft) sailboat. After a 5 year long tiring refit that ended damaging my mental health and professional prospects ( COVID worsened everything as I now have a gap in my prof career), I thought for a while I had thrown away the money investing in a small boat. Videos like yours help to remember that the limitations are time and money, not size. Whenever I am at the boat my mental mood improves a lot. I probably should have casted off and moved abroad for a while (the norwegian coastline is incredibly stunning), unfortunately I speak german but no norwegian.
Sailboat projects can be a huge mental challenge. It is a constant battle to balance work, time and money. Keep in mind though, not everything onboard has to be perfect. For some gadgets or projects, you have to ask yourself if it’s absolutely crucial or not. An example is, me not having a liferaft… yes it was absolutely stupid but I was simply out of funds and I wanted to go. So I went. Keep grinding and you’ll make it in the end. Best of luck!
Was this in september? Still seems to be warm and sunny
It was early August. Forgot to mention that in the video.
Great video
Tøft! Hva er samlet pris for solcelle-panel, batteri og det som ellers hører til og som du har montert? Hvor handler du festene på rekka for panelene?
Det kom på omtrent 15-17k. Biltema har festene 👌. Veldig greie for prisen
Ok, ny båt!
Ja! 🎉⛵️
Ny båt?
Ja! 🎉
Big D! Good to see your smiling face pop up on my idiot box! I thought we'd lost you, but all seems to be well?
I’m still here! Just a bit slow with editing as I’m finally moving the editing to a pc. Takes a bit time to learn it :). All is well 💪
Congrats, 100% success! That mainsail is looking great! 3th reef this winter?
Thanks Rob! The second reef has been already put farther up which makes this tiny main quite small already 😄
Great trip. Seems like you ended up at Fiskebrygga in the end. We were there this summer and had a great beer and fish & chips before continuing back home to Sweden via Risör and some other places. Where did you anchor the night before Arendal? Seems like a nice place. Thanks.
It was fantastic. The Norwegian coast has sooo many places to explore, it’s great cruising grounds. I tried to find the location again but it was just before Kristiansand
takk og god jul ja :)

What happened to your friends that went missing in their yacht? Assuming they were found, the video seem quit upbeat. Always concerning when yachts go missing. Thanks for the video. 🙏
@@KivBB my bad, completely forgot to edit that in. The missing yatch has eventually arrived its destination after missing for over a week! They had lost the wind for a long period

@@MikeSantis it tasted sooooo good! Thanks Mike, hope you can make it there 🙌
Great video as usual!
Thanks!
Amazing achievement!
Although I prefer slalom skis, which I can handle much better, I also love and do cross country skiing. But my skills on cross country skis are terrible and certainly I wouldn't dare to go down those narrow streets the way you do! Good that Denmark is flat ha ha ha. Godt klaret 😀
Modalen beautiful little community
5:38 Tara from Denmark, I know the boat as the skipper Jørgen and his girlfriend Helle. I have sailed with that boat last year.
Didn't know you can speak Turkish 🙂
Surprise! 😅. I have a heavy accent now though heheh
Great video !❤
Thanks!
I can see that you do have a fog horn 🙂 a red one by the ignition switch 🙂
Those islands are amazing! Resembles the Carribean a bit
Når ungan blir litt større så joine i d på tur.
Jaaaa 🥰
How are you doing it with check in out procedures?
I did it online. They never checked my boat 🤷♂️
Quite a few problems there :-)
I guess you have been having the same dreams as me. Sailing to Shetlands and Faroes. Great job. Thanks for the video
It seems so! Always had it in my mind. I just wish I had more time to stay and explore there
@@sailingfishcake yes, that is also my concern. Not only to have time to explore there but also time to choose good weather windows for the crossings. I have once spent 5-6 days at the Faroes, work related, where I also had the opportunity to explore and it was amazing. Would love to sail there in my own boat one day!
@@MikeSantis very true. I was extremely lucky with the weather. I’ve spent 3 weeks from Norway to Faroe Islands and back. I’ve stayed waaaay too short to properly enjoy the places. Oh well, next time!
@@sailingfishcake there is always the next time
Interesting watching your trip! I hope I can make this crossing in 2026. Thanks for sharing.
Why not next year? it seems you have a very capable boat 👀
@@sailingfishcake that is true. But I need to make the time/money. Such a trip requires at least 6 weeks in order to allow for good weather windows.
That strech of sea on the West coast way up to Stavanger can be unforgiven in strong winds and should be dealed with care! Had my share of "punishment" south bound in June. Good you made it safe to Kvitsøy.
Tell me about it! It was my first time sailing there and I got absolutely smacked… I was there in June as well so maybe we passed each other at one point 😄
Amazing you are taking off for offshore sailing without knowing your boat well yet! Great to follow places I was sailing in May/June this year also.
This is one way to learn the limits of the boat as I see it. Would rather have problems close to shore than in the middle of the ocean 🌊
Drømmetur! Står på listen..👌🙏⛵️
Fantastisk sted! Må absolutt sees
Hey, just found your channel and subscribed. I will go back and watch your videos from this trip. Considering my self a trip to the Shetlands. Based in Denmark. Just finishing my last couple of episodes from my trip to Stavanger and south coast Norway in May/June. Check them out. Thanks for the video.
Hello Mike, I was following you for a while now 🙌. Love your videos! Would love to meet up if our ways crosses next season ⛵️⛵️
