Zamp Off Grid Solar Cabin Kit | Back Country Solar
I bought a used one. I'plugged red to positive and black to negative and got 602 on the control panel. I looked it up and it said my battery was hooked up backwards. I reversed the clips and it worked??? Could my solar panel be hooked up backwards?
Great info, thanks!
very straight forward intro to solar set up. Thanks
Very clear instructions. Thank you!!!!! Short and to the point.
The more I learn about Zamp, the more gimmicky it sounds. Great video, I just wish Zamp would install a Grid tie into the connector for the RVs it's installed in because on the AC system it will assist it if that were there.
Can you run a sample solar suitcase at the same time as your roof solar panels for extra quick battery charging?
I ment to type Zamp solar suitcase.
Don't use a extension line unless you have to. Shorter the lead wire the less line loss.
This is so helpful, better than the official website video. Thank you so much
I just bought a trailer that has the 2000w inverter. Trying to find a manual for it & a remote switch, it doesn't have that plugged into it anywhere I can see.
Question: I have 2 lithium batteries of 105ah and a 3000watt inverter and I’m deciding in purchase the Zamp portable solar which one do you think will work better the 140 or 180 watt for off grid like 4/5 days ? Thanks
What the price for a 6 kilo what
You just answered my big questions. I just got a new Zamp and not knowing anything about how they work your video was perfect
So the batteries are not connected in parallel? If you put jumpers for the two terminals in parallel then the extra battery should be in the circuit
Jumpers to a single batter doesn't add it into the system properly. It important to go on the positive of one battery and negative on the furthest one away.
It’s a 12 volt DC power port and its not CALLED A FUCKING CIGARETTE LIGHTER ANY MORE!
I was looking for basic set-up and system and you hooked me up...Is that array a total of 100 wts?
what if your rig is not solar ready would you use the battery clamps?
comes with the clamps to connect directly to battery or plug in, your option
Nice video. Easy to follow and explained very well.
How efficient is the 1000W inverter?
Nice video, thank you.
Very interesting and informative. May be shopping for an inverter before too long.
Does that charge controller protect the battery from getting too low as well or just keep battery from overcharging? In other words, if use in the RV exceeds what your battery should be, does the charge controller alert the user somehow?
What a great overview of the kit: For more information I recommend checking out the following: www.shoptinyhouses.com/collections/zamp-solar
Sounds easy! Thanks for a good informative video. I’m thinking of buying this exact product. Can you give us a ball park figure on how much it costs? And, do you use it just to keep your batteries charged? I’m hoping I can use my coffee brewer without powering up my portable generator! Thanks...
Robert Flores Hi! The Zamp Portables come in 5 sizes. You can see them and the prices on our website at backcountrysolar.com. Yes they charge your batteries during the day when the sun is out. Thanks for your questions.
I would very much like to use Zamp solar panels. Just can't afford em.
How do you know where the truss supports are?
I used a stud finder on my wood framed motorhome roof. Many stud finder tools also have a metal stud setting if you have a metal frame roof.
Our Riverstone already has the 3 port connection on the roof and the solar controller. I would assume that all I would need is the panels. Am I correct?
Looks like no one cared to get back to you. The thing to know about Zamp (and please research on your own) is their entry connectors have reverse polarity to keep you using Zamp panels. You can reverse the wire or buy an adapter to reverse the polarity (so that your positive hits positive and negative hits negative). Zamp makes a great panel but they can be 2.5x more expensive than say Renogy panels. Good luck and do your homework before trusting someone like me on the internet. :-)
Our 2019 Forrest River Sierra came all prewired with Zamp controller and 3 port roof camp from the factory. The dealer installed 2 Go power 100 watts solar panels and almost burned down our new 5th wheel. They didn't even know about the revers polarity wiring. completely melted the Zamp controller. They fixed it all, but im not sure if they just swapped the wires under the cap now or what they did.
Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Are these units able to be bumped up to 2.5 KW? I'm sure that they are but I just have to ask. The reason for asking is the ability to have run a small earth home. Thank you!
I think you can see some good advices on Avasva solutions.
I think you can find good solution on Avasva
Is this mc4 connection? What type of connection is used?
No it's not an MC4 - it's an SAE connection. Here is a link to a solar panel wire on our website where you can see the connector up close. backcountrysolar.com/collections/mounting-options-and-accessories/products/zamp-solar-panel-wire-10-ft-uv-rated-sae Thanks for the question.

Great information here. Having the batteries hooked up like that explains why the inverter wasn't working well. Totally unsafe to have a WET type battery in a closed compartment with other electronics.
Looks like +12V (red wire) is hooked to the exposed metal pin. That's rather exotic as it is an arc hazard. It appears other SAE port adapters that connect here use the opposite definition. The Anderson SB50 connectors have a well defined polarity.
Hi Chris - The red wire is connected to an auto reset breaker. Once the roof port cap is installed flat on the roof and sealed correctly there is no arc hazard.
