Nice! ironically, I also have a 26M and have been looking for a small sailboat to get my sailing fix on weeknights at a nearby reservoir. I have been looking at a used Hobie Holder 14, do you you find it to be a solid little boat? Have you ever had a knockdown in a gust?
the Hobie Holder 14s are really great for day sailing. I love mine for its simplicity and speed. They can get tender over about 12kts of wind. if you can find one with a small furler that will help in the higher wind days as you can furl in and just sail the main.

Can't remember. The boat does between 6-8 knots with 12-20kts breeze. She is pretty quick for a 27.

First, your video along with choice of music was spot on!!! Well done. I have owned a '79 O'day 28 on fresh water lake in NC for almost 2 years. It is in good sailing shape, but could use some freshing up on hull gelcoat etc. Yours looks soooo shiny - inspireing, but mine has to be hauled our onto stands.....

I'm interested in the cameras and drones you used. Looking to buy and what you used seemed really good.
For drone shots I used a dji mini 3. Underwater was a GoPro10 and for the sailing footage I used a insta360 one X2.

Great video! So nice to see something other than a catamaran plying the beautiful BVI. It was an ambitious itinerary for a 31 foot monohull but you did it all, and did it well.

Very well done, I like Freddie mercury🤣 I hope you don’t mind me copying that with my 5HP mercury. You video answered a lot of questions for me as I have just purchased a 60hp Yamaha. I haven’t had it fitted yet and was wondering if it would fit under the seat when fully tilted up.
Yes the 60 is what I also have on this boat. Feel free to copy Freddy Mercury. makes it easy to spot if ever stolen in the anchorage too.

Am I tripping or what? About halfway through the video, there is something swimming on the starboard side of the boat. Whatever it is is pink in color, and it actually overtakes the boat in the end. Perhaps it is sunlight in a weird angle? My thoughts were that it is a pink dolphin (if there is such a thing)?

Nice job. I used to sail my Catalina 22 into the slip all the time back in the day. Not going to happen with my current boat!
Yeah definitely only going to happen if conditions are ideal. I wouldn't do this if the marina was bigger with more slips.

Sail a little better than the Mac 26?
Well its a little complicated haha. here is my comparison. While I have sailed faster in my Mac (over 7.0 Kts SOG), I find that the Hunter is more stable in its speed. So far i've hit Hull speed. I'm sure it has a lot to do with hybrid (Mac) Hull vs traditional displacment (Hunter) Hull. I need to get a new mainsail and setup the Hunter the way I want it, and I expect after a few updates from me the Hunter will beat the MAC for speed. as far as heeling, The Hunter is quite stiff for a water Ballast surprisingly. much stiffer than my Mac. I'd say its probable similiar stiffness as a O'day 272 or a Catalina 25 fin keel but not as stiff as my O'day 27. I decided to switch after seeing how much more room is gained from the Hunter. its about .5 ft longer and 1 ft wider. The tow weight is only 800lbs more than my Mac. Plus I rarely use the big motor these days as I prefer to motor sail. I have my Mac for sale right now.
Cool video! great memories. These boats are so versatile I don't know why people hate on them. I don't like that you have to step on the cabin to go forward or the water ballast but they have good space, are beachable, and can get you there at 20knots in a pinch. That's great.

Great video! And fun perfect music! This is on my list of possible boats to get, for it's ease of towing and versatility. I am uneasy about a sailboat without a real keel for open water though. I will not be crossing big oceans, but WILL have it in the ocean primarily. Looking to use it for day trips as well as short overnights for two people. Any hesitations or advice on it? Thanks!
I take mine on the ocean all the time. As with any vessel, weather windows are important but the boat is plenty sturdy and will get you there in fine order. With water ballast you just need to reef earlier than a keel boat as they are more tender. You get used to that.
Is it true that there are no slips in Catalina, only moorings? People just leave their boats out in the water overnight? Does Catalina provide the tender to get back and forth?
Yes correct they have no slips and only moorings for rent. You can call a boat taxi service to get to shore if you need to though but its a fee. i just tow a cheap dinghy behind the boat.

We sailed our McGregor in the San Juan Islands back in 2010. Such a great adventure.
