Barbuta (UFO 50) Speedrun in 4:33.465
Переглядів 4,5 тис.Місяць тому
This run uses the fastest strategies I know, and I did not make any significant mistakes. Getting better final boss RNG is the main way I'm aware of to improve on this run. I might just leave it up to other people to try that.... There are a surprising number of subtleties in this speedrun route. The main thing to understand is that the platforms run on a global cycle, which starts when you pic...
Barbuta: A Guided Tour
Переглядів 18 тис.Місяць тому
This is a playthrough of Barbuta (from the game collection UFO 50) that showcases the full game and all items and secrets that I know about, with text commentary that tries to explain the logic behind the game's cryptic progression. For some reason, I became obsessed with Barbuta and played it for 20 hours, so I created this as a tribute to the game. If you found any secrets that I didn't, let ...

I have a faster run now: ua-cam.com/video/EMQbrX-Cl6Y/v-deo.html See the description there for more up-to-date Barbuta speedrunning info. I'll leave the old description unedited below, I don't feel like updating it.... The main improvement I know of is in the room starting at 1:04, there is a faster route that is way more precise: ua-cam.com/video/sq1hCBZgS7I/v-deo.html Aside from that, the pro...

I got this 1cc much more quickly than Touhou 7, but I don't know if it's actually that much easier or if I'm just getting better.

Did you know that Saturday is 4 days before Tuesday? Enjoy Sylvie's second 1cc of Mahou Daisakusen with improvised rambling commentary. I didn't really explain it well in the the video but the reason I didn't post my first 1cc is because this one was more interesting and had more fun mistakes, in the first one I just no-missed up to the middle of stage 6. In this game, I think trying to salvage...

I ramble about getting mad when you die with bombs in stock. Sorry for the sound quality, I need to get a real mic sometime. If you want to actually learn strategies for the game, check out HakanaiBlue's excellent Lunatic 1cc guide: ua-cam.com/video/la6_rk7fq_Y/v-deo.html

This is the first arcade shmup I cleared in a long time. It was difficult. Played on MAME 0.261. Apparently MAME doesn't emulate the slowdown accurately, but what I read is that there's actually *more* slowdown on the PCB, which is somewhat shocking. If you don't like me, there is a commentaryless version: ua-cam.com/video/PrMpZpZXLQ4/v-deo.html
SynchroniZ 2.0, 3 Death Clear (normal timers)

Game: socksmakepeoplesexy.itch.io/synchroniz Pretty good run. Only one of the three deaths was embarrassing I don't want to grind for a deathless run. Someone else do it.
SynchroniZ 2.0 1CC (normal timers)
Переглядів 57Рік тому
This was my first try at the new version 2.0 of SynchroniZ (socksmakepeoplesexy.itch.io/synchroniz). The original version was very hard and I only completed it with liberal use of the stage select function and a few hours of struggling. This version gives you more starting lives and has tweaks to the levels and hitboxes that make it much easier to clear. I think a new player would be unlikely t...
Elephantasy Flipside: Two Item Challenge Run (100%, Best Ending, v1.3.3)
Переглядів 410Рік тому
This is a challenge run of Elephantasy Flipside in which I beat the game (100% completion, best ending) without ever simultaneously carrying more than two of the eight upgradeable items in my inventory. I use all eight items in the run, but never carry more than two at once, which limits my options in many interesting ways. Some difficult and unusual tricks are required to complete the game. Th...

JIGGLY ZONE minimal powerups item collection
Thanks for this :) I beat it without finding the necklace (but i did get the key!) and was confused why so much of the map was still not accessible to me. Great video & game!
YESSSS i love. Delightful commentary as always.
Yippee! I love your commentaries
Thank you for this. I spent so long running around trying to figure out what I was missing because I didn't notice the green liquid pit you can jump into. I then spent hours trying to figure out how to get across the final spike trap, not realizing there was an invisible floor. The green liquid pit was telegraphed, I just didn't see it, but man that final invisible floor thing is just bullshit, in a game that's already so painfully slow to restart and do everything all over again - at least before you know that you can ignore 90% of the game if you just do the A/B puzzle and go up.
Figuring out this game's secrets is an incredibly satisfying experience. I like that you showed off how (almost) every secret can be logically figured out by the player.
Amazing guide, I like that you actually explained each room and did it as an natural progression
17:09 I was wondering what pushing that did.
Wow, the only thing i was missing was the path to the blood sword... I thought there'd be more seeing as how I mapped it out, there's 7 rooms that arent reachable at all, but thats pretty much the only thing I missed
That being said, if you count the amount of doors that lead to unique rooms, there's 7 extra rooms, which could theoretically fit even though the game shows its not on the map
Absolute peak game
Somehow i read the texts with a bored UK London tour bus guides voice.
thank god i found this video i wouldnt be able to beat this game 💀
More like speedwalk
drood
Thank you! Great help. Very much needed.
I love games like this (small, mechanically consistent but simple) for speedrunning, the level of optimization possible is insane. it's a special thing
You made such a lovely tour, thank you for the guide.
love the discovery 🎉
I kept seeing this and not clicking on it. A shame, because this is the most thorough coverage of Barbuta with the least filler.
Hey, I was looking for a 40th anniversary let’s play of this game and I found a cool trans girl!
i never finished watching this video because i might have puked
derek yu is the best game DEV of all time cuz he knows how to recreate shitty games from 40 years ago!!!!! fuck yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i don't think i've ever seen a more FUN game than this! thanks derek!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would like to know how to get to the top right corner of the map or the screen to its left.
great vid, felt like I got to experience the whole game
SCAAAAAARRRRYYYY MUSHROOMS
This looks absolutely boring as fuck… some of you have some major copium
The NPC at 21:30 is likely the canon hint to understand the switch in the mushrooms room. Notice how he has the same blue tiles in his room. (This is still way too illogical nonetheless in my book)
This is exactly what I was looking for. Played the game for 5-10 min, got the gist but still wanted to see what was hiding in the rest of the game. Thanks so much!!!!
I definitely read the title wrong as "almost 5 hours" and thought the Dunkey joke was real.
great guide, managed to beat it on my own but not finding the was to get the lever drove me nuts; thanks for making this!
thank you very much! this was a great game up until a point that repeating the whole sequence was tiresome. Also, that invisible floor leading to the boss is mean...
Terrific gameplay and insight, very interesting watch.
The ending is hilarious.
I'm in love. Such a charming video. Had to stop watching a few minutes in because I realized I wanna find the secrets for myself
The lack of a voiceover here honestly adds so much. Very much in the spirit of the original game! ❤
If you open the blood sword chest with magic rod in hand, then instead of blood sword you will receive a bat orb. It’s an alternative way to get it.
It seems like there are some spaces on the map that we never go to. Is the current theory that there's just nothing there? Also, I was curious today if anything interesting happened if the skull appeared on the boss screen. And the answer is, not really! The skull just doesn't appear, you fight the boss like normal.
There are a total of seven grid spaces that, as far as I know, are unreachable through normal means. (I wonder if you could get there with Cheat Engine or something, but I haven't tried.) There are also a total of seven "side rooms" that are not marked on the map and are entered via doors, so I think the idea is to suggest that those missing grid spaces are where the side rooms are physically located. I have no clue whether the game is actually programmed that way though.
Would love it they added this game to steam workshop wo we can get mods and then we can use cheats to see all hidden room stuff liek this.
it says speed run but why he walk slow
To be fair you have to have a very high iq to understand barbuta
John Cage's 4:33 of silence + bloops
I love this game, but I can't not know the secrets after getting tired of it. Great vid. Would never cherry again.
As a chils i never new i couls jump in that swamp back than in 1982 (i am born in 2000)
Let’s go!!! Looked flawless except for the floating platforms could have had a better cycle, yeah?
Watching this after beating the game and seeing a totally different route through it was cool. Great vid!
oh my fucking god I know I’ve hit that cracked wall with the hidden ladder before but I think I only ever attacked it twice
I'm genuinely baffled as to how anyone figured out that ladder secret. Knowing its riddled with secrets makes me both more and less motivated to give it another try. Maybe after I gold every other disk LMAO
There's a purple room elsewhere in the dungeon that has the ladder sequence you're supposed to do as the only path to get through, so ou just gotta copy that sequence in the a b room
@lintlion They even captured the enigmatic game design choices of the 1980's. Love or hate Barbuta, you gotta respect their dedication to emulating the good and the bad parts of the NES era.
@@RealShringo I'm only seeing the good here lmao this game sunk its teeth into me HARD, I think all its little weirdnesses come together really well, because of those little finicky bits not in spite of em
@@lintilion I'm just not a huge fan of secrets I suppose. I was never the kind of person to scour the game for stuff like than, just playing it through and taking whatever I found. Nowadays if I see an obscure puzzle or something that smells of a secret, I go straight to google.

23:00 wait so where does this ledge lead?
I assume the final boss area
If you jump off there, you land next to the NPC that tells you about praying at the altar
@@XANDOAndy ah thx
I still don't get how the AB show what ladders you are supposed to use.
My favorite part is when barbuta said "I'm Barbuting out!!" and then barbutted all over the screen
hell yeah
