      @@MathewsGuitarWorks It works very well for the price. We brought 3. My kids share 1 for when I ride with them, Cody has 1, and I have 1. It's been good for teaching the kids (video of my youngest loosing the training wheels comes out this week), and for Cody and I communicating on rides. I would like a pricier set that can communicate with more people at once, but still don't regret this purchase. I would just say to evaluate whether you think you need to communicate with multiple people at once. If not, this is likely the best bang per buck.

    • @WyomingFamilyAdventures
      @WyomingFamilyAdventures 21 день тому

      @ero7238 Thank you for the support and the question. I usually plan about 200 miles +/- about 50, depending on terain and how spirited I get with the throttle. On this ride, we cut it close and actually received an extra 1.25 gallons per bike from a very generous guy in a side x side on the other side of the mountain. We may or may not have made it all the way out without his donation. It definitely would have been close. Helpful folk is another thing we're not short of here in Wyoming. We'll definitely bring spare fuel the next time.

    • @WyomingFamilyAdventures
      @WyomingFamilyAdventures 21 день тому

      @ero7238 I should add that altitude plays a key role in calculating range. We likely get about 25%-35% (or less sometimes) than we could get if we rode at sea level. These bikes 'should' be capable of around 300 miles in 'ideal conditions'. Of course, we prefer less than ideal conditions. Lol

      Thank you for watching, and for the comment. I believe one of the other brands of tail racks has bars that protrude a lot. Someone also makes rear crash bars that would make good grab bars on the sides of the seat.

    This was great for me to watch. I am test riding a Tuareg tomorrow. I was originally thinking about buying something smaller, but I live about 1 1/2 hours away from trails minimum in Maine, so an adv bike would be nice at it would not require a trailer or backtracking to where I started from on the trail. Seeing you guys mess around makes me think I would not be giving up too much on the trails on a Tuareg vs. a honda CRF 300L or something like that. I love the idea of having plenty of room for camping gear and a great looking bike (compared to dual sports, at least to my eye). I am inspired. I trust are happy with your bikes vs dual sports.

      So far we are loving them. We switched from having smaller dual sports (check out some of our other videos), but wanted a unicorn bike that could do it all. Unicorns are a myth but the Tuareg comes pretty close. We don't have any dealers in Wyoming, so we over protected to bolster reliability. Lol.

      @@WyomingFamilyAdventures Thanks. I would have a dealer about 2 hours away, which isn't bad for living in Maine. On my list of things to find out on my test ride today is to get a sense how good their service department is. I will take a look at the older videos of your dual sports. Thanks, again. You guys are using this platform the way it should be used; to help people with similar interests.

    Just got the Tuareg a week ago. This rack will be here in a couple of days. Thx for the video. Any reason why you didn't go with the Outback Motortrek skid plate vs the Camel one you installed? Thx again, new subscriber here. Cheers, Raymond

      Congrats on the new bike!. I loved the look of the matching Outback skid, but my research showed that the Camel skid plate gave better overall protection (check out their test video). It's wide enough to cover the lower motor and most of the foot levers in a drop and the added slip liner covers the dog bones.

      ...Btw, some of the other mods are slightly easier before installing the crash bars, like fog/driving lights. We'll post a video on that eventually.

    Ya the T-Rex skid plate is muuuuuuch better..

    • @WyomingFamilyAdventures
      @WyomingFamilyAdventures 3 місяці тому

      I don't know about better, but it's definitely more convenient for oil changes. I'd have to see somebody hit that one with a sledge hammer, while it's on their bike to be convinced that it's better. I also don't like the fact that the T Rex requires the additional lower crash bars to get as much coverage as the Camel skip plate gives alone.

      @@WyomingFamilyAdventures The T-Rex plate is completely isolated from the oil pan.. No bolts or brackets attachment to the pan. Also covers the rear linkage for the swing arm.. Makes access to the oil filter a breeze..

    • @WyomingFamilyAdventures
      @WyomingFamilyAdventures 3 місяці тому

      @spencervidal3168 I'm sure it's a pretty good skid plate. I've used T-Rex products on other bikes. I definitely like the access panel for oil changes. However, it still doesn't cover as much without the addition of their ower crash bars, and they didn't have any evidence of impact testing. I also understand most of us want to believe that we made the best choice, And that what I find best for my use, may not be the best for others. I almost purchased the T-Rex plate, but after more research, I decided on the Camel. If you have the T-Rex, maybe you can come hit some trails with us sometime for a real world side by side comparison test. I can't think of a funner way to settle this debate. 🏍

    I’m always a little wary of skid plates with no rubber damping. Maybe I’m overthinking it?

    • @WyomingFamilyAdventures
      @WyomingFamilyAdventures 3 місяці тому

      Interesting perspective. Does someone make a rubber mounted skid plate for the Tuareg? I'm not sure that I would trust rubber mounts to be strong enough for some of the trails we ride with this heavy of a bike. I do believe the sub-mount on this one is sufficient for dampening. Cory at Camel ADV tested it by hitting it several times with a large sledgehammer, ...while it was mounted on the bike. I couldn't find any other skid plate manufacturers that even showed evidence of any testing. I'm definitely open to see something better, but I tried and couldn't find anything better as far as protection goes.

      @WyomingFamilyAdventures 3 місяці тому

      @daveo9844 I had to go back and look at the Heed. Plate again, because it has been since last year. I definitely agree that the Heed plate is very good option. We passed on it because it doesn't give the same protection as the Camel ADV plate, without buying the additional lower crash bars. The Heed plate also lacks the heat shield around the cat.

      Nice discussion. This really highlights what Wyoming Family Adventures said about this being the `best for their use`, and others might find something better for their own use. I like that both the video and Dave mention other good options and agree with both that there's not always a one size fits all solution for everything.
