Stationed at Zwei from 78-80, my first duty station out of tech school. 26th FMS, I was an engine troop and worked at the J79 engine test cell initially then flight line engines till PCS in Apr 80. Great assignment, lots of great memories. Lived in the barracks for 14 months then moved into apartment in Kleinsteinhausen after getting married.

My dad was stationed here when he was young. I'm his son living in zweibrücken. Sadly my dad has gotten a brain Tumor and is fighting now. I'm more than proud of him!

seems a shame that the city decided to spend money to demolish all these dorms and then a few years later spend MORE money to build immigrant/refugee housing on base. ???

My time at sunny Zwei was from Feb. 74 to Feb. 76. Lived in one of those "dorms" for the two years that i was there. 26 OMS, as a crew chief on the RF-4C Phantoms. My Phantom was 69-370 on the Alpha 1 section of the flight line.

My mother taught English there 1959-1963 (Miss McGinn)...anyone remember her? Would love to know.

My 2 years there were from 74-76. 26 OMS. Was the crew chief on Phantom 69-370.

My old high school

26th CRS from 1982 to 1990. Best tour of my USAF career. I miss all of you who served on the base during my time there.

Lived there from 75-80, Dad was stationed there. I remember everything even though I was a young kid. The Bowling alley and Ice ring was my favorite places to go.

I miss Zwei High! What a great place to go to high school!

USAF - Stationed at ‘Sunny Zwei’ from 78- 81. 38th Tac Recon Sq.

I know this is an old video but I was curious to see if any videos existed of Sunny Zwei. I spent 22 years in the USAF. Zwei was my first overseas assignment as a young E4. I was there from 78 - 81. I was with the 38th TAC Recon Sq. That was one of my favorite assignments. I was single and had the time of my life in Europe. I lived in the barracks for a time. My barrack was very close to the High School if I remember correctly. Zweibruken AB, had one of the best chow halls as well. I know from experience as I was TDY all over Europe while there. Another fond memory were of the two beautiful German woman who operated a Wurst stand on the base. I lost count how many times I bought a Rotwurst mit Sinalco for lunch. ...... So many fond memories after all these years.

Thanks for posting this video. Luckily I was able to capture pictures of some of the dorms and gym inside this area a few months before the buildings were torn down.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I lived in the Transportation side of building 37 from 1981 to 1983.

I was stationed there in 1982-84. Best assignment of my career. It’s saddening to see the base disappearing. But the memories are sweet, and the friendships I made have stayed with me through the years. Thank you for posting this video. Maybe you could compile a then and now video. I lived in the NCO dorm on the top of the hill.

Allow me to say hello and thank you (Danka) for this video I was stationed here at sunny zwei-84-89 assigned to CES and the first year I was there I was placed on Snow Removal the best time I had there and the worst was the Air Show accident at Ramstein in August 1988. I truly Loved the Germans- I rented an upstairs apartment from a family in Contwig-They were the Stauder's. I still have the Chess Board that Mr. Stauder made for me as a present when my wife and I moved out. So many good memories-but the air force was not a good memory for me. One way on and one way off- I remember when they built the new club. Salty Nation exercises. Many memories. I remember the theatre, post office, behind the theatre was the bx and book store merchants bank laundry mat. The petrol station. wow.

Not a word about the Peter Cunningham (I think that was the name) Memorial Ice Rink? On weekends German skaters were permitted (a small entry fee) and that's where I learned how to ice skate . That alone should have been mentioned ( :-)

I was there...Feb. 1970 to May, 1971. Somewhere between the flugplatz and the Kaufhalle downtown. Drinking Parkbrau and catching bands like Amon Düül 2 and Jeronimo playing nearby in Saarbrücken and beyond...

In the army 1972 and 1973 military police on the other side of town used to eat breakfast at Air Force mess when ever we could had a great two years in germany

WOW! Hardly recognized anything. It has changed since 71-73! Dad was stationed there. I believe in the 81st T.F.S. We were over there with him.

I was stationed at Zwei in the mid-60s, when the air base was was mainly occupied by the RCAF. We would often drive from our "hill" on the other side of Zwei, to the air Base to check out their clubs and do some shopping. Was a sad day when they closed down our operations and moved many of us north to the Frankfürt area. Fondly remember the good times there: ADAC road racing & hillclimbing; F1 & F2 races at Hockenheim and Nurburgring; traveling to France & Belgium; night clubbing in Säarbrucken and, of course, Octoberfests in Munchën.

I wonder if they encountered as many UXO's as we did when they started doing all the new construction on the base?

Lived in the village of Mittelbac 1970-72 and attended Zwei High--go Trojans!

84-86 Does anybody remember The Marabu Nightclub?
