How do you edit the contour distance because it is not generating because of it? thank you.
after you click the second point to finish choosing the direction perpendicular to the objects (4:20) it should be prompting you to choose a distance/spacing for contours. make sure the distance is not too big or too little for your model!
Hi, I was rendering png directly from pictures that I bring with command "picture" and I didn't have to do the opacity or vray material to rendery it without background. I was working with vray 5 in rhino 6. but now I upload to vray 7 and the png that I bring directly to rhino are rendering with the background reggardless they are png witouth background. Do you know what can I do?
It seems odd that it doesn't work natively in rhino 7 but it does in 5 and 6. If you opened the same project in a newer version try to add a new png in the file to see if that works. if you're rendering with vray then continue to read below. With vray you can add the opacity map. For this you'll want to copy your png and make the content white, then add a black background. When you load it into vray opacity map this should only show the original content and make the background transparent. This may not always show up in the view port when using vray to setup the materials, so test render the scene and check that it worked. Hope that helps! Let me know if it does or doesn't!
@@g-lurk Hello, thanks for your reply. I tried with several png files but it didn’t work. With Vray 5 it rendered the png on the scene (I bring them with the command: picture) so the png was without background on the scene and Vray 5 rendered it without the need to create a material and its opacity channel. Anyway the solution is create the opacity channel as you said it. I just wanted to save a few steps (create a material, create the opacity bitmap and load it)
@@fernando1sierra ah. Well I'm glad you got it. Some simple things can only be done the long way :(
Thank you, very helpful
how do I export my textures from revit to rhino!
You may be able to do that with vray for revit. However, I have not used the revit version. Typically I generate all my materials in vray for rhino.
THX!
I realize I'm a bit late to the party, but any ideas how to bring material information from Revit to Rhino?
i have the same problem now, please reply here if you find a way and I will do the same :)
saved my ass, thanks.
This helped me soo much, thank you for sharing!
Really very nice video
THIS IS HUGE! thank you. The repeated process of running by layer : duplicate lines>planar surface>join>delete>rename layer.... IS OVERRR
Wonderful vid👍
Fantastic! Thanks!
great tutorial :) just one thing that bothers me... how do I go around it if I have plenty of walls and wanted to flatten them to xy plane? I tried project but doesnt work for some reason :(((
Project would be the command that I use. I believe you need to project onto another surface. So you might want to make a planar surface and project all your vertical walls to that, then rotate your projected lines onto the xy plane. I hope this is helpful. Let me know!
@@g-lurk Thank you for such a quick reply! I might be doing something wrong along the way, because even though I choose vertical curves to project onto vertical plane I am getting the same error message :"The projection missed the selected objects." EDIT: It does work for horizontal lines/plane
hi, even tho I have followed these steps I'm not able to edit my design in rhino, i cant change the walls or anything
How to do that whit a real topography. Importing an Cad drawing then do that whit the topography lines of Cad?
Could you teach how to make contours with caves in them ??
Hi. You have many plugin in rhino. How you install it ? Pls, help me
Hey i just saw your video, i'd aprreciate if you give me a prompt feedback, i exported my revit project to rhino and i used rhino render and it doesn't work! When i put the material into the wall (for example) it doesn't apply. T-T
Hmmm.. you may need to explode or expand the objects. I can't recall at the moment how to resolve this and i JUST cleaned my computer so i don't have any of this software on it right now! be sure your rendering settings are set correctly - make sure you choose the rendering program you want, and double check the material properties. i don't have a lot of experience using rhino rendering, mostly V-Ray!
Greg Antons Thaaaaank you, I exploded it and it worked 😆 🙌🏻
Very helpful!! Thank you~
thank you!
can we print this section on scale???
can you explain what youre asking? Ifyou mean a scaled perspective, then not really. There are ways to do that, but its beyond what i've ever done.
it was a great tutorial tnx alot
Great tutorial! Really easy to follow and extremely helpful. Thank you!
thank you !
where is the rhino to laser cutter video?
my video section see: "[TUTORIAL] How to Laser cut with Rhino, Rhinonest and Illustrator" - it may be a little outdated.
Thanks Greg!
Great tutorial, but I have a hard time hearing your voice. better sound would be helpful.
Hi, and thanks for sharing the video. My question is: how do I export details like material texture from Revit and print them on a 3D printer ?
Motasem Albanna thanks for your question. I have very little experience with 3D printing through revit. I there are some add-ins you can use to export to stl files but other than that i am unsure of the quality. I don't quite understand your comment about material, perhaps you can elaborate and I'll try and help you out a bit more. Thanks!
Motasem Albanna i just thought about it.. I think what you're asking is how to get the 3D look of a material to print on a 3D printer using revit, right? If so then i would be very surprised if revit can do that. The best way i can think of is to find a material that has a "bump map" and use that in rhino/grasshopper to generate a height map. Maybe dynamo for revit has a similar capability. Hope that helps!
Hi Greg, and Thank you for your prompt feedback. Actually, yes, this is what I meant. an example of that is a clay tile roof, it appears well textured and even pumped in Revit, but it prints mirror flat on a 3D printer without textures and clay pumps. So I will be glad if you have any clue rather than creating 3D pumps or additional modeling which will be time-consuming and affects the federated model. Thanks in advance.
That is ABSOLUTELY awesome, thank you!!
Damn! Cant believe im looking at your tutorial right now lol! Guess who is it! GREGARYYYYY lol
What are you doing?? Text me! Email me!
Greg Antons im back in school. doing MA now but as interior designer lol! how are you doing? be a big boss yet? got any position hiring me? lol
Email me or text me.
Awsoooooome!! Thank you :))
Can you do a part III, please :c
How come you first do the contour lines in sketchup? Why not just import the terrain and use the Contour command in Rhino?
You could also do that! I would probably prefer to do it that way, now. Good looking out on that one.
Ok :) Also giving heads up for CADmapper, automatically generates a dxf file with terrain, building and roads of any area. Seems to work pretty well!
have a method to model the topography in surfaces like a contours, and in a box, for let it on the laser trimer :D plzzzz
I Have another [TUTORIAL] video that talks about getting the file setup for laser cutting. That video may help you to some extent. In order to get contour lines See my video [TUTORIAL] How to Generate Contour Lines in Rhino. Let me know if that helps.
why do you delete closed curves? Thanks!!
this is great!!! thank you so much!!!
nice commands at the beginning
Unkown Command: Fucker
Thank you very much!
Of course :D
This is very useful!
I can't seem to intersect the faces with the model, where you did it at 3:15. It pops up an error saying "no intersections found between selection set and the rest of the mdoel"
Jason Kuan I'm not sure. perhaps you've selected the wrong items? I have no had that issue before. You could also try the 'contour' command in rhino using the topography surface in rhino.
Thank you!
You are a god!
Thank you for the tutorial! My only question is... How would I apply the satellite image onto the topo surface in Rhino?
when you import it from sketchup it should be embedded in the topo as a material that you can use. or, you can probably get a higher resolution image of the same area from google earth and use it as a normal material in your rendering engine. Hope that helps
How would you go about making roads/sidewalks on this terrain? And in some of my previous projects, I don't know who exactly is working on the digital site, but he/she was able to turn the contour lines into a sets of planes that stack up on each other? To me it just seems more easy to make or illustrate roads, buildings and such. If you have any info or know any other video on how to do this it'll save me the headache and frustration. Thanks a bunch, and keep the videos coming!!
you can make roads and sidewalks simply by creating the geometry (closed polyline>extrudecrv), let me know if that helps. You can create contour lines either vertically (like maya linn topography), or horizontally (like a cardboard topography model) by using the 'contour' command and following the prompts -- prompt should include intervals, and the direction you want the contours to go (vertical/horizontal). let me know if this helps
Awesome video! There is a question though, how would I leave the visual google map on so I can place the existing buildings on the contour lines, I don't want to wipe it clean and starte the buildings from scratch.
When you import it from sketchup, it has the image still on it in rendered mode. so if you render the final image, you'll see the google map. I think you should be able to turn the image visibility on when you're in other modes (like shading). Hope that helps
Logged in just to comment. This is great- using a transparent material to keep shadows is such a genius idea. Thanks so much Greg!
Great tutorial, thank you. I have one question: how can select all score lines in illustrator if you have more complicated drawing, to set the stroke and colour?
You can probably export it in rhino with different lineweights for each 'type' that you want, or different line colors, then select them in illustrator and go to the menu select>same>stroke weight or stroke color... that should select all of the ones of similar. Let me know if that helps.
hi, I've a problem doing the patch. i did the patch but it has grids on it, how do you remove it?
check to see if the grids are isocurves, if so then they should not be anything to worry about. you can turn them off in the 'display options'
ok thanks :D
***** How do you turn them off? I am new to Rhino and I can't seem to get rid of the grids
I don't get it. Why not make a solid in Sketchup and use SliceIt in skecthup to make slices?
I dont typically use sketchup unless i'm using it to export to Rhino so i'm not familiar with sliceit, or how to access it. I'm open to listening to you elaborate, though :)
The thing is . You did a lot of things that doesn't make sense. You can do everything you did either on Sketchup only or Rhino only. But if you want to try sliceit, you find it here www.cad-addict.com/2009/07/sketchup-plugins-slice-your-model.html . Im using it pretty much to make files for the cuttingplotter. But im not using thickness for building the slices , i use the distance and make zero height slices as the cutting device dont know z-axes. i think sketchup is way more powerfull as its seems but rhino is the more professional one. i would like to see many sketchup things in rhino as i like the way to navigate in 3d in sketchup. (middle click + shift or without shift) . greetings from germany
8bitHuman The video is meant to show how to get the height values from sketchup, which rhino isnt able to do. I also didnt use any plugins because i like to show videos that dont require people to download links. I appreciate your input, though. I'll check it out! Thanks
