There were alot of Davidsons around my moms family on coaldale Mt thet grew up together. Mom's best friend was Barbara. They were friends until they died. They'd be about 90. Mom passed in 2016. Not sure if Barbara has passed. They went to high school in Bramwell.

We always forget that that area was at one point the gateway to the west. This is such a tragic story. I don’t know how a parent can survive that kind of traumatic loss. I can’t even imagine. Horrible acts were committed on both sides as settlers moved west and encroached on indigenous lands. Honestly, I’m glad I didn’t have to live through those times - on either side. Thanks for bringing us this story. It always really brings a story to life to be able to see exactly where the events happened.

Danny, I was raised on Cabin Creek in Kanawha County lived within100' of the railroad. Every day a great many coal cars were pulled up the creek by C&O to the tipples at Acme, Kayford loaded them all day the 10pm at night here they come bringing back down loaded. Now Cabin Creek is just a road up a holler full of Bears , Deer and Rattle Snakes. But back then we had all the things we wanted a great many miners sons became Army , Navy , Marines and Air Force some of those brave men died in Viet Nam a good childhood friend Danny Ray Howell was one of those. Danny, great video, here is a little history on our family. I have been doing the our families ancestry for sometime and found that we are sadly related to the Baldwin’s though our great-grandmother Cora Smith who was disowned by the Baldwin family when she went against them and married our great-grandfather Edward Smith who was a Stone Mason. Our great-grandfather dead from a horrible death in 1916 when he was standing by a fireplace an a bolt of lighting can down the chimney and hit him. I have a newspaper article about the accident and it mentioned a mantle clock that was hit at the same moment and froze the time at that moment.

Thank you for this! The history of that area is so interesting to me. Looking back on the practices of the coal companies at that time, it’s hard to believe that anyone saw that treatment of workers and their families as fair and equitable. It’s hard to believe that the law so often reinforced those practices. And inspiring to think of the bravery it took to stand up to those companies and force that change. But it’s also a good reminder of how easy it can be to normalize really bad things and how dangerous it can be to give companies free reign without oversight.

This is sad. There is no way around it. The loss is felt more keenly than any gain. One difference, to me, is that they built better, more attractively, than today. Maybe, of course just an old man's memory. Anyway, thanks again. This sense of loss is, I suspect , universal. It is common to many countries. Is there any country in the world where the population of country towns is increasing ? Maybe not now. But the future, like the present, is unpredictable. From Australia. Thanks again. Appreciated.
