I sure enjoy mine. Have fun. Thanks for watching!!
I like the rack idea but it’s a bummer the cargo box covers the rear light tho.
Agree, its visible if you're about 10' away but you're correct i could put one on the back of the rack as well. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing, as it helped me make my decision. Also, turn your entire unit 180 degrees and that will prevent your hoses from getting snagged!! Great video!!
Thanks, I did that for the next video .
Not something I'd thought of buying before this. thanks for testing it so we know we were right to think that. I dislike firewood, but reality is often we have it, so, use it if you have it.
I was hopeful that it would be useful........I was wrong
They’re janky at first, I run my Mach 30 mini skid smooth now after 30 hrs of training practice!
I agree, as with anything there is a bit of a learning curve
Lol
Glad I could make you laugh.......at my expense ;)
Try splitting a longer log with it. I bet it will work better.
Yeah, I tried that with a few and it just seems to screw into the wood.
What online auction did you buy it from? What did the setup roughly run? Thanks
It was an equipment auction in MN. Jeff martin equipment I think. winning bid was $3600, but then there is a buyers premium and tax and a sunshine fee and a future pebble in my shoe tax. (I'm being slightly sarcastic) I think it totaled around $4200
Give me my log splitter
it tried to hold it hostage!
Psssssh! I considered getting one of those auger type splitters for my AGT L12R....no thanks! (But thank YOU for helping make that final decision! Now I can waste that money on some other unnecessary item lol). Thanks for the video and your humor along the way (I can appreciate it even if our wives don't!)
Glad I could help. I appreciate you watching and commenting!
Log splitter doesn’t seem efficient.
I completely agree
ive only seen these screw splitters used with the cut end going into the screw, not the side of the log.
I tried a few that ways, it just seems to screw into it and doesn't split. Thanks for watching!!
Maybe the thumb can help to stop the log spinning??
It could but its not hooked to the hydraulics if the splitter is and I don't like the idea of the thumb just hanging all the time. Thanks for watching!
You need something to hold the rounds while you split them.
Agreed, I just like the idea of going to the log instead of putting all the logs in one particular spot, I feel like I would need to touch it too many times.
So much for talking the logs once? This just got better and better! I know now why I moved out of Wisconsin.
Thanks for watching!!!
The underappreciated supporting actor of this video is the reversed hydraulic log splitter. Can you do a video on your mods? Thanks!
Are you referring to the old Nortern tool splitter? I guess I'm a bigger meathead than I thought, what makes it reversed?
@@dabarn ok, I'm kind of new to wood splitters, but every splitter I've used has a moving wedge and a stationary plate. Yours seems like a much better design.
Years ago they were mostly all like the one that I own, that was before they would tip up or have lifts. I think the theory was with the stationary wedge it wouldn't put the ram in a bind like it could with the wedge attached to it. I could be way off on that.
Nice project. I'm buying the same truck tomorrow here in Idaho. One thing, you should not use copper tubing for brake lines. Maybe it's not copper. It looks like it, though. Fun to watch.
Thanks, I've been digging into it more so keep your eye out for more vids!
I always run hoses threw the thum. Helps keep from hanging up. If I did wood I'd make a wood splitter for a attachment
I like the wood splitter idea!
When I was a kid, my dad had a corkscrew splitter that you removed the tire off a vehicle (we had a junkie old truck) mounted to hub. truck was put on blocks wheels off ground. LOL later I think they were outlawed. Anyways we had a concrete slab that stopped it from spinning. I was wondering if you could somehow pin it against the blade to stop the chunk from spinning. or some kind of post in the ground that you could put chunk up against. I would just use the thumb and lift the big chunks on your splitter and use that attachment as a post hole auger they have 8" and 12" auger bits for that. I have a MIVA excavator with that same motor attachment (I believe I saw MIVA on the side of it.)
I've seen those splitters on trucks, haha. I tried pinning the log against the blade but couldn't quite get it close enough, with the longer logs it would probably work.
Try hanging the cone spliter off the boom higher up where the thumb is . Take thumb off hang it there and leave the bucket on . That way the log has something to stop up against to stop it from spinning and it will go allot faster
Or fabricate a bar that sticks down and will catch the the bock and stop it from spinning that's the key to using those cone splitters
yeah, a bar or pipe could work well in that situation
The log needs somthing to stop up against like the thumb or a stump to stop it from. Spinning then it will work good
yeah, its still a little tedious to get it lined up on the log
It would be faster to use a log splitter....
I agree, if I can pick it up
@@dabarn use bucket to set it on the log splitter :D
These screw things have always been horrible for splitting wood. Fun to watch
They are soooooo intriguing to me though!!! :)
Lol dude Put the thumb down to stop it from spinning the block of wood will hit the thumb and stop it from spining then it will split it without even havning to be on the ground once the auger is stuck in the block of wood .
That's an idea I could try. The thumb is disconnected from the hydraulics because the auger is using the remote hook up. I guess I could just leave it down.
@@dabarn can you pin it down? Because it will work good if you can
Entertaining content. That tool looks frustrating as hell. I use my mini excavator bucket and thumb to set the giant rounds on my horizontal splitter. Saves my back.
Thanks for the view and comment. That's a good idea using the bucket.
. Thanks for the update. I’m trying to build a channel too, I know how tough it is. Keep up the good work I subscribe.
Thanks for the watch and the Sub. I appreciate you. Keep at it.
The mini digger itself looks like half decent bit of kit,
it has come in handy for what it is and the overall cost. Thanks for watching
Good Day 🌅, to be honest that doesn’t look like a good tool, I’m in my 70s occasionally use my axe to chop logs and I could have probably chopped up a half dozen or so by the time you’ve actually split up one, but you’re making a lot a mess, you’ll be better off with a hydraulic ram splitter, from France,
I tend to agree, if you see in the video I was really hoping to use it on big rounds that are too heavy to lift, unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) I don't have any of those on site right now,
How thick of steel was this made from
you know, I can't remember now, Its been more than 47 seconds.... I can't remember that far back, If I get a chance at work I'll check for ya.
@@dabarn that would be awesome I'm interested in building one
Thanks for the review. Did you try splitting wood from the end? I have noticed that a conventional log splitter or a hammer driven wedge both have a hard time splitting wood from the side of the piece but splits it easily from the end grain. Just a thought.
I did try that on one and it starts to screw in and then spins like crazy. There is no leverage to stop it.
those lil machines are dangerous
they are better if the operator uses them for what they are for, unlike me ;)
What do you use for fluid in your machine?
I can't remember, but if I remember correctly, I purchased it from Fleet Farm, not from the dealer
That boom splitter would be good for stump splitting.
yeah, I could try that
Did you say your daughter would stack the wood? Is she an Amazon?
Good video. It went about the way I thought it would. When you use those screw type splitters. You need to split your whole log and then buckem to length. I always thought they were nothing but an accident going someplace to happen.
Thanks, I just had to test the possibility of splitting from the machine without having to chase the splits around. Now that I think about it, I'm probably the accident going someplace to happen. :)
Good grief be careful on that thing. You should put 90 degree fittings on those lines and tie them up. Also, if you get the auger stuck again (you will lol) if you hit the wood on the end in a counterclockwise direction with a hammer, other piece of firewood, etc. it will usually dislodge it. I might have missed it in the video but how much did you end up getting it for with all of those extras?
I have another video coming out in regards to hooking up the attachment, As far as getting that darn thing stuck, I get pretty stubborn about not doing any manual labor once I have a piece of equipment :). The mini excavator winning bid was $3600 and the spitter was $400 from memory, of course there were auction fees, taxes on top of both of those so I'm into it for roughly 1.2 million $ now.
Like your video Im at the same level you are unit and at the same level you are but I have some useful mod info for PM me
Cool, thanks
mine is similar with the cab and I have hit my head before, but no blood. i want to add some kind of counterweight to mine.
that's a good idea
Get a chance to get quick change for attachments. Makes fast to change. The get quick attachments for hoses. Go to hydraulic shop and pick up. Or call first to see if they have metric adapters. I use 7/8 bolt and 3/4 conduet . Where i live harf to get metric bolts. When i tried 1 inch to large. Turn the auger around so the hoses toward u. Then you wount scew the hoses. Buy the auger attachments so use for that to. I have seen one or make one that works like your log spliter on your mini. And it was a bouble edge. That way split from what side it on
the only thing I worry about with the quick change attachments is the height of the stick to the ground. I agree that quick change adapters on the hoses would be great. I have another video coming out soon w/ the auger attachment turned around. Thanks for watching!
@dabarn the quick attachment will add about 4 to 6 inches to the length. I have used one for about 2 year. That's the one u tighten and losen. I'm going after the spring loaded one now.
that adds less than I thought. the spring loaded one seems to make sense.
thank you for sharing your rookie move, this has taught me to pay attention for dangers of working on the side
Glad to help, lesson learned. Thanks for the comment!
This kit don’t come with any brackets ?
They had some universal brackets, but they don't cooperate w/ square bodies.
Just my opinion but in sure your tracks are on backwards and cause stretching of then more
Hmm, I'll have to take a look at that
Lol they go either way they can't be on back wards lol. They could be inside out but that's unlikely
@@soulmedicine they can be bc one has more traction then the othere which will cause more force to be applied and cause stretching you can even have that on steel tracks. Bc you don't do as much in reverse as you do forwards. But if your getting it inside out I don't think that person should be operating a machine anymore lol
Looks like typical Chinese Junk to me.
I believe you are correct sir.
Maybe install table on splitter and use machine to pick up set on table. Appreciate your honesty. So you have a post hole digger now.
That's a good idea. I'll figure something out to do with it
Just subscribe to you You did a good job Better put a seatbelt on next time But you always gotta bring it to you before picking up But it was good video I liked it have a good day my friend have a good day my friend Stay safe my friend
Thanks for the sub, I appreciate you!
Thanks for sharing your experience with this splitter 👍 Good video 😊 Bummer you broke your hydraulic line.
Thanks, Its nothing that I can't fix up, its all a learning lesson
Got the same Rig, have you had an increase in play in your turret swing . Got mine at auction.. I need to find an a outlet for parts and attachments.. do you have a source
I only have about 3.5 hrs on it so far so no added play. I haven't had to look for parts yet so I don't have a direction to point you toward as of yet.
I have a AGT H15 and I have found some parts at Central Digger Supply. He has a channel called The Garage Connetion. Hope it help.
Screw augers have a huge learning curve better if split logs in long lengths, not short rounds. i have one on my big skidsteer, and it will spin a 2000 lb 10 ft log if not braced against a large immovable object, but they work well once get hang of it. Yes need as much hydraulic hp to split
I'm curious, with the longer length logs do you have to split multiple times?
@dabarn Just keep working along the log starting at one end working all the way down to the other end make sure don't go to deep and get splitter stuck. Sometimes on hard dead wood I will make a few plunge cut so splitter will start.
makes sense! Thanks,
You also put the Auger on backwards.
Well crud. I had that exact thought a time or two along the way. Now I need to try it again! Thanks!
