      If I visit an area, I usually look at the history of it on the Wikipedia page. When you get there ask some old heads about any cool historical sites or places to go.

      @@stevecypher9213 I thought this might make a nice CDT alternate. Start in Big Bend, Davis Mountains, then Guadalupes and connect at the Gila/Silver City, NM area or further north

    I think this sunrise might have been even better than in your previous video. Amazing. I've done much of this section around White Oaks, Last Chance, and Sitting Bull Falls. It was really overgrown with lots of thorns, but such a pretty area. And I love all of the water. So different than the southern part of the Guads. Can of wine in your cache! Nice!

      @@CameronHall88 Yes, the water availability was a nice change. I think the loop is a must do addition to the GRT proper. I plan on heading back to explore more of last chance canyon.

    I thought that looked like a black widow spider. Be careful. Lots of water on this trail. Was not aware of this trail. Very nice hike.

      @@rdoody2067 I use CalTopo to map my route and print out paper maps. I also downloaded the Lincoln National Forest - Guadalupe district - visitor map in Avenza and it was really helpful with the road and trail labels while in the NF

      @@MrBobJourneys only have a max of two weeks off work at a time, so the big 3 are not possible yet. CDT would be my choice the though.

      Hey Bill! Good to hear from you. Hope you enjoy your trip. I’ve made the Pecos on July 4th an annual thing. It’s a great spot to get out of the summer Texas heat. The Jacks creek/Beattys loop is in great shape right now. Otherwise there are lots of blow downs,fire scars, and rough trail to deal with. Let me know if you needs any info on trails.

    Wanting to do some backpacking there this year before it gets cold. Really like the area and its been to long since ive been in those mountains. Nice video. As for the hole in your shoe, hiking really wears on footwear. I can take some like new boots and have them looking pretty worn in just a few days on trail

      Bear Creek was looking scary. It rained maybe an inch the day before, so I would hate to have to cross it after a bigger rain. You definitely should visit the rest of the trail. A lot to see!

    That last trail head was the Cripple Turkey trail head. I consider it the northern end of the Sylamore Creek Trail the begins at the Allison Trail head in Allison. I like to make it a 43 mile out and back. A great trail with only one shallow water crossing at the beginning.

    They've done a lot of work on some of the shelters since your hike. I have completed sections 1-7 now. I think most of the shelters have a porch now. It occurred to me specifically when I saw your photo of Big Bear shelter because that's where I spent my most recent night and I made my oatmeal on one of the shelves on the porch. 🙂 Hats off to the Friends of the Ouachita (FoOT) Trail for all their hard work.

      Yeah. My thru hike was right before they added the porches to the older shelters. Big bear was my favorite. FoOT does a fantastic job maintaining the trail.

      Both this one and the Outer mountain loop in the National Park are great loops. If you need any info on either I would be happy to provide. This one is A LOT rougher trail and less traveled. Good adventure! I am watching your Lone Star trail vids now 😊

    Great video. Excellent footage (except you went sideways LOL). Great exposition. I truly appreciate the lack of music--I go into the back country for the silence, not to jam to tunes. It would be great if you referenced a map in your videos & labeled some peaks or lakes. How do you not get lonely when you solo backpack?

      I’ve never felt lonely in general. I feel comfortable in my own company and like moving at my own pace. These videos are just raw footage that I throw together. Not much effort on my part because I am usually busy planning the next trip.

    I've done the ERL twice. Such an amazing trail!! Last time I went in 2019 there were tons of downed trees that fully blocked the trail after Albert Pike heading toward Winding Stair (after the major ice storm). Looks like those are gone now. I've only ever gone in winter when the poison stuff is dead and ticks/chiggers are in hiding.

      It is a great loop. I try to hike it once or twice every year. Friends of the Ouachita Trail group has taken over maintenance and are keeping things nice.

    "My favorite part of the trail is when there's shade." "In case you're ever thinking of coming to Big Bend in winter because it'll be nice and cool. Nope. Blazing hot." 😂 I have always wanted to backpack/hike there but my body hates heat. Anything above 70 and I melt and heat issues start. Good to know the only way I need to visit BB is in my air conditioned car... even in winter. 🤪

      Strother creek. No signage at the crossing and it looks like any other creek. It is a lead tailings pond upstream. This is mentioned on the Middle Fork section map on Ozarktrail.com

      That burn only affected the area east of the Pecos river. Plenty of other burn scars from previous years in this area though.
