Vintage Verdi: "Come dal ciel precipita" from Macbeth
Here I play Banco's aria "Come dal ciel precipita" from Macbeth by Giuseppe Verdi. The accompaniment is provided by @mypianista , an excellent channel full of accompaniments of famous opera arias, all superbly played. My instrument is an original rotary-valve bass trombone in F by Giovan Battista Cazzani of Milan, typical of the trombones produced and used in Italy from the mid 19th century to the early 20th century. Today this instrument is often referred to as a “cimbasso.” For more details visit my website: www.davidyacus.com

Original romantic-period German tenor trombone

Built by Oskar Ullmann (1875-1938) of Leipzig. Expertly restored by Mathias Wiedmann. The bell garland bears the inscription 1763 Gegr. 1763 / J.C. Penzels Nachf. / Leipzig / N°10604, and is decorated with engraved oak leaves, a typical characteristic of Leipzig brass instrument artisans of the 19th and early 20th centuries. 1763 is a reference to the year in which Carl Leo Sattler’s workshop w...

Tutorial: Mouthpiece Routine

The mouthpiece is a great place to start getting focused and coordinate the mind with the physical aspects of playing. In this video, I use a sackbut mouthpiece to walk you through how I make playing the mouthpiece a part of my daily routine. Before watching, it's best to download the PDF file from the free downloads section of my website: www.davidyacus.com.
Bozza - New Orleans on bass trombone (excerpt)

I’m known mainly as a specialist in historical instruments, but I began my career as an orchestral musician and still enjoy playing the modern trombone when I get a chance. In this video I play an excerpt from “New Orleans” by Eugène Bozza.

Awesome! I've been doing similar stuff. I'll be looking at a rotary valve trombone today and record some Verdi with it and my ophicleide. Fun stuff! Thanks for the videos.
This is a wonderful combination of instruments. Please tell me what the woodwind (melody) instrument is called. It sounds fantastic. Middle Eastern in style. Thank you!
Correct! It's called a shawn, they were brought back from the Crusades by Europeans where they became quite popular and widespread there as well.
That was terrific!!! Thank you.
These people making videos tooting their own horns. What's the world come to?
I love the algorithm.
he was dizzy at the end
can't help but notice the higher register is a bit airy sounding, amazing tone regardless.
I feel like this could play a scale but I haven’t heard someone do that
May I ask where I can see a full recording of the concert?
That’s B4 in A = 440
Fantastique ! Magnifique ! Félicitations !
Wow… it must be challenging to play such a trombone… Thank you so much for demonstrating for us!
Did Kruspe intend this to be a bass trombone?
Awesome
Beautiful music. Where can I find music score for this piece ?
its from Ferdinand David Concerto OP.4 dolce solo
Hello is it possible to record ur voice only and to record on it ? I play medieval bagpipe and would like to have fun with your sound :) merci !!
It reminds me of a Soprano Trombone
Bravo. I was listening to this while making sweet love to my lady, Claire Lambe. We both cummerbund hard together as the piece finished.
Curious about that rope F trigger, was that something you intentionally designed or was it just missing the trigger? You and this instrument make a really warm sound I love it.
It's something that's common on old German Tenorposaunes. Old German Bones generally had the trigger in the tuning slide and a rope instead of a linkage. This made the triggers removable which allowed for the player to switch between a Straight Tenor Trombone and a Trigger Tenor.
Настоящее средневековье!;)
finally an actual slide trumpet that isnt just a soprano trombone.
I love old styles of bass trombones/sackbuts for the longer slides.
Did that rope F valve come with the trombone or was that something you made?
Very simple yet effective. Thank you!
Neat
I will never not click on these random excerpt videos that come up on my recommended... So many talented musicians to be heard on UA-cam! You have a gorgeous, rich tone!
Where’s the piano?
Eso no es un trombón tenor, más bien es un trombón alto.
It’s a tenor sackbut
Is there a special purpose for that lever thing in the slide?
The slide is longer than normal bones, so they use the handle to reach hard to reach positions
@@mondotrombo7167 i see thank you for the info
damn that is a weird one. I have a soprano trombone, which is the more popular "slide trumpet" but this is still cool
Great sound! Love it!
Inverted trombone
прототромбон
I love your approach to getting started. As a former trumpet player, it was ALWAYS first buzzing, then buzzing on the mouthpiece, then on the BERP - and always feeling detached from making music to stress the techincal. Then my embouchure collapsed but even more my playing nerves. What followed was 9 years of conducting but no physical instrumental playing. Then I decided, I was tired of being the only person in the room not actually "making music" and took up trombone - one of my doubling instrument s from college. Started lessons in 1991 and got my degree in 1996 and immediately switched to bass bone (now play a Yamaha 822g). Played in a couple regional orchestras and out local quartett. And what I threw away was buzzing and concentration on technique UNTIL I got the sound working I wanted to make. SOUND=music. Technique is only a tool once the sound is there to facilitate music making, not the ba all and end all. Sometimes I get the sound right away, sometimes it takes a few minutes until I find it again. But before doing any concert prep, I now ALWAYS go through pieces I've stolen from the Gamba, Baroque Cello and Bassoon repertoire, mostly from photocopies of manuscripts so I'm not unduly influenced by editorial markings. And espeically the early gamba and cello piece lend themselves to exploring the freedoms of working agogic and tempo fluctuations within musical contexts. And all this on that Yamaha, not a bass sackbut. Maybe in my next life .... (I'm an old fart of 68 now). Anyway, thanks for the inspirational talk and playing!
surprisingly big tone.
Thank you, Master. Right now I'm enjoying my sackbut at ca. 490 Hz Is great! Muchas gracias, David. UN GRAN ABRAZO!!!
Sacbut
Tell us more about that trumpet setup. Because this is *outstanding*.
Dear David ... if you do not have a tuning slide, how can you make small pitch adjustments due to temperature or altitude changes ? Thank you for your videos ! Regards from Brazil.
Hi Espunov! You use tuning bits, small tubes between the mouthpiece and mouthpipe that make the instrument longer. Check out the explanation and photos on my website news column: "The Renaissance tenor trombone: alternative pitch setups." www.davidyacus.com
Very Talented Man!
Thank you both.
I've seen them configured like a trombone, but never were the bell was moving. Nice sound.
The renaissance precursor to the trombone was the sackbut. It had a slide configuration like a modern trombone, but the bell had a smaller flare.
that was probably just a soprano trombone.
The Trumpet Guilds had specific patented designs that were "Trumpets". Things that weren't to those patents weren't authorized to be called a Trumpet (or played by guild trumpeters). In particular, none of the instrument could extend past the bell on one end, or past the mouthpiece on the other.
Is that different from a trumpet in F under A440 tuning?
Kind of a Sackput, right?
That is a very small bell
Yes usually a bass bone has a bell diameter from between 9" to 101/2" and it can be ordered as you wish.
Custom ones can have 8.5 to all the way up to 11!
@@mondotrombo7167 : They'll get pretty heavy!

I love its sound; very vibrant!
Thanks, I think so too! There's something very special about its sound.
Wow! I want one of those!!!!
Agreed - that looks stupendous!
I do too! 5 stars! Make it 10!
Nice sound but I never detected New Orleans music there!
It’s the name of the piece
Play valve trombone
I do...but not for this piece 😉
How about Superbone?
🤣🤣🤣
Lol I had to add 😂 Couldn't resist. Great playing by the way.
Thanks!
Great sound; what brand is that trombone???
It's a German trombone, a Kruspe from the early 1900's. Very special indeed...
