Wish you still made cideos
Atta kid. Well done.
Did you sell the one you built for your gladiator?
Yeah I sold it separately from the truck last year. I believe it’s out in Las Vegas now
@@outdooreqt2469 bummer! Wish I would have known and I would have come and gotten it! I DMd you some time ago about how it was built on another platform but haven’t started my build yet. Looking forward to watching this one!

Anymore updates? Get your windows installed? How did you cut your canvas ?
I actually ended up selling the camper and truck about a year ago. I now have a RAM Power Wagon with a new DIY build that I recently finished up. Hoping to make a video in the next few weeks while I’m on a road trip in the PNW!
@@outdooreqt2469 Roger that. Thanks for the update
@@44bgood just uploaded a quick peek at the new truck/camper!
Loving the idea! I may have missed it in the video, but is the unistrut a 12 or 14 gauge?
Really want to make the same for mine, yours looks great! Did you see a big mpg hit with it? How has it held up?
Sorry for the late reply. I only noticed about a 1.5 MPG hit, really wasn’t too bad at all
By any chance you got the measurements for the back and sides?
What size struts did you buy to lift the tail gate? I am finally getting my topper put together…
The pair I got were 17” extended and 11” compressed with 28lbs of force per one
Many thanks, you channel was great inspiration. I got the Sport S Gladiator a month ago and have fitted a temporary canvas topper over wood frame…this being a prototype for an 8020 down the road a bit… good going and keep the adventures rolling.
@@buffalo4127 Glad to hear the videos helped out! I just started building a new one for my new truck so I’ll be sharing some updates soon. Looking forward to hearing about your build!
Curious to see new truck good luck!
Are you selling them?
Where did you get the materials? Also, what the name of the trail rail bar? What are the sizes and type of screws or bolts needed for the installation? Nice work.
Smart Camper, make the most of it and proudly enjoy it .When you at campsites you can surly glance at it and think of the effort you have put in with rich rewards.
Any build sheet for measurements or dimensions? Great build!!
What Hinges did you uses on the front and what latches are thosem
I used the 10 series hinges from Tnutz.com and then I used Jeep JK hood latches for the tent latches
Good Job/mod. Thanks
Nice work!
same thing from Alu Cab about $15,000. Great build. I bought the explorer canopy, might cut a hole in the top to access a Roof top tent.
Cool video, looking forward to the camper mods. Thank you.
Terrific job and very informative video. Thank you.
Great build, any idea how much cost you have into it?
Thanks! For the camper, I’m right around ~$2500 for all materials. The aluminum extrusions are definitely the bulk of it and then there’s a couple hundred worth of trial and error materials in that number as well.
Well done!
What kind of material did you use for the side panels on the camper? Nice set up! I’m hoping to build something similar one day
Thanks! The material is called Alupoly which is basically a foam core sandwiched which two sheets of aluminum. I was able to find it at a local sign shop.
Nice work amigo!
What are the measurements?
Impressive! Thanks for sharing. Love that truck too.
Thanks I appreciate it!
What size extrusions did you use? 10 series or 15 series?
I went with 10 series and I haven’t had any issues, it was also nice to work with the 1” dimensions.
Sick, I am doing something similar on my tacoma with 8020 as well, do you have an instagram?
@outdooreqt
Hi how can I get one ?
If you’re local to AZ, I would potentially be willing to sell you mine!
Looking at your campertop, what would the estimated weight be?
I calculated 198 lbs for all the extrusions and panels. So that does not include hardware/brackets, gas struts, latches and the bed rail mounts.
That is a very good weight! Do you have plans to add windows, etc?
@@buffalo4127 I’ve been looking into adding a window on the panel closest to the cab and possibly one of the side panels. I’m currently designing a new rear hatch/door so I’ll be making a video on that.
Will follow your progress. We have grown used to working without the tail gate set up and have barn style back doors…one slightly wider than the other.
@@buffalo4127 I’m planning on doing barn doors as well but keeping the tailgate. Any reason for one being wider than the other?
What is the height of the side panels. I am trying to do a similar build and am thinking 24" from bedrail to bottom of the extended tent beam would work. What did you do?
My panels are 25" tall. I have a one inch extrusion on the bed rail/plastic cap and then 24" legs on-top of that for the combined 25". The panel ends right where the silver extrusions start so I wish I would have went an inch taller so it would seal up against the extrusions. If you take a look at my update video you can see the small gap it left. Planning on redoing these soon..
Recently i created a diy door seal from 2” blue collapsible hose. I inserted foam tubing used to insulate pipes inside the hose. You might adapt something like that for your front hinge seal. I could send a photo if you need visuals.
This is fuckng sick, good on you for giving this a go
Thanks! I appreciate it, it’s been a fun experience. I’m planning on building some drawers/cabinets for it next.
so you sort of copied AT overland's design. Form the angles on the sides about it fights the wind too. You've done a great job so far...but I bet you'll want to do some changes to the sides over time.
Looks great! If you haven't already I would loctite those JK hood latch hinge bolts. I have the same latches and I lost a couple bolts before loctiting them all.
Thanks for the heads up! I did loctite the bolts securing the whole latch to the 8020, but not the hinge bolts. I’ll definitely do that before my trip this weekend.
What would you think about making a bit farther out over the truck cab?
I went with 8ft long overall, so 3ft of the top hangs over the cab and is a couple inches away from covering the top roof panels. You could definitely make it longer over the cab, although it might be a little tricky to remove the roof panels and I’m not sure how the weight would distribute.
EQT, What would you think about removing the cab and building the camper out to include the cab interior? Obviously one would bridge the cab/box divide….We would like to create access to the cab area for various reasons.
PS… please elaborate on you sources for the extruded aluminum railing/framing and the sheet aluminum that you used on the camper. Nice work!
Thanks! For the extruded aluminum/framing you can order from 8020.net but I prefer tnutz.com for their prices. For the sheet aluminum, I went to a local sign shop but the material is called Alupoly ACM (Aluminum Composite Material). I see they have it on Amazon but obviously in smaller sizes due to shipping.
looks awesome, how exactly did you mount the panels to the extrusions?
EQT, Nice diy work on the topper. Keep us posted with updates.
Wer did u get the tent material
Fabricwholesaledirect.com
Legit amazing man! You really thought some things through with it. Cant wait to see more.
Glad you enjoyed it!
what is the gas milage you get with and without the camper? Thanks
I get about 16 mpg around town and 15 on the highway (with the camper). Without the camper I probably only get about 1.5 mpg better.
Looks great, cant wait to see how you improve it, i hope to do something similar on an old f150 i just bought!
What are the lengths for the three pieces? Thanks.
Very nice job
I like it I'm looking for one and your is way better that the one I was gonna buy
If you flip your main gas struts you can gain an over-center action to help seal and hold top closed. Been using 80/20 and Bosch extrusions for years. Awesome stuff. Thru bolt connectors will give a insanely strong joint.
Thanks for the tip! I’m planning out an 80/20 cabinet/drawer setup for the truck bed so I’ll have to look into the thru bolt connectors.
What material and thickness did you use for the side panel?
The material I used was from a local sign/plastics shop. It’s called Alupoly and I used the 6mm thick panels.
Whats the messurements
I like the direction your heading. Just got my JTRD looking at suspension (shocks) and heavy duty rock rails first. 35in MT's. Nothing crazy keeping it conservative. Any suggestions on dealing with the additional weight as your build progresses?
I have the Max tow package which comes with heavier springs in the rear so weight hasn’t been an issue yet. The truck is still leveled out with the camper and gear on the rear.
what are the length measurement to be cut at
