Replace 14-18 GMC Sierra & Chevy Silverado Radio w/ 13in Apple Carplay, Android Auto, OEM Camera
Replace/Upgrade your old 2014-2018 GMC Sierra & Chevy Silverado radio with a new one that integrates with Apple Carplay and Android Auto 13. I'll also show you how to retain the factory OEM backup camera using the PAC Reverse Camera Retention Wiring Harness (GM51). Furthermore, this install retains the factory steering wheel audio controls.
This install is for a 4" or 8" radio screen I04 with no Bose system. Bose systems require an additional decoder purchased separately from the aftermarket radio manufacturer.
The 7" factory model I03 uses a different wiring harness, which is included within the aftermarket radio.
*Note that some plugs, wires, and connectors will not be used and will stay unplugged within the vehicle.
Tools Needed:
Drill (For faster installation) - Optional
7mm Socket (Optional)
7mm Offset Wrench
T15 screwdriver or bit
Auto Trim Pry Tools (Strong straight & curved edge)
Electrical Tape (To secure the RCA and Micro USB)
Short zip ties (To secure wires)
I've replaced my old factory stereo with the AWESAFE 13.1 inch Car Radio Stereo 4GB RAM+ 64GB ROM. The unboxing of this product is also shown here. Links will be updated soon.
The only gripe I have for this product is that the steering wheel control for playing the next song or the previous one, is inverted. The app to map the steering wheel control doesn't detect any inputs so you can't set the controls. However, everything else works just fine. This product was also installed in my friend's truck similar to mine but with no issues.

Do you still have Apple CarPlay my app disappeared
Since this unit connects to the HMI, does it have an on screen interface for the OE infotainment system settings?
Can you do a long term review of it pros and cons of unit?
Sure. I definitely find some cons to it so I'll make a video when I've got some time! stay tuned
Great Stereo, everything works well, having a really hard time getting the steering wheel controls to work, specifically volume and song skip to work, not sure where to land the orange silverado wire from the column. 1 tried the orange key 1 and key 2, but i don't believe that's correct.
@@richardavino7431 the orange “Silverado” plug plugs into the single blue wire with the black connector i believe…it’s one of those single connectors
Still confused about how much to cut out....
Also what did you do with the 2 on star RCAs?
Which wire in the headunit harness did you connect the orange (Silverado) wire from the steering wheel controls
There’s 2 orange “key1” and “key2” wires coming out of the main harness for radio
did you get it figured out?
Yes I did.
How’s everything working since I seen people change their radio but after like a month or so the after market radio starts to lag or sometimes kick you out of CarPlay when using
Link?
I just got the same one, are you not able to use the existing oem microphone?
I didn't try to. You can possibly buy an adapter but not sure. I just ran the new one that came with the unit. I'd also recommend when you do, you should run it to the a-pillar as close as possible to your mouth as it isn't a very sensitive mic. I ran it a bit too far in the video where it's close to the mirror.
Where does the black antenna plug go into ?
Why does the music turn off when I put it in reverse ?
@@aaronramos849 it’s an annoying feature but it does happen to me as well haha
Got to settings app - Reverse - scroll down to Reverse volume control and turn it all the way up.
If u are having trouble with this all u gotta do is if u have the 4 to 8 inch factory screen you need to switch the red battery looking thing to the other set of wires and hook it up. Hooking it up is kinda self explanatory
Can u please make a better video. I never worked with radios and this video doesn’t help me at all. You set everything up without showing it man. Can u pls help out a lil moreV
Overall experience? Is it still working smoothly?
@@rigocontreras4221 I’ll do an update video here in a few days but yes!
How did I you get the legs where the screen screws in into the plastic???
I like the front camera option. very cool. I have 3 Alpine amps so i didn't buy the bose interface.
Dumb questions here, but I pretty much hooked everything up exactly how you did and still have no audio. I'd imagine it's because that breakout of female RCA connectors on the radio's backside isn't hooked up to anything. I see there is a male AUX L/R to hook up, but where exactly do the FL, FR, SUB, etc. tie into the system?
@@nathanmorff821 you must’ve not plugged everything in properly as the green goes to the green and the black harness goes into the black one from the same row the green harness was pulled from. The rca’s are for aftermarket stereo systems so nothing you should worry about
@ I’ve got them matched up the way you described. I’m not even sure if I could have plugged them in incorrectly. I was also wondering where the steering wheel control cable gets plugged into on the radio side.
@@nathanmorff821 there was 2 large harness with mine. but i have bose so green and black. then i have 3 aftermarket amps so i used the rca to amps. works great and sounds way better.
Can you still see the info on your dash screen? Trip/oil life/speed?
@@jobee55 on my trucks cluster, yes I can still see all that information. Only thing I can’t see is the audio tab on it
Wait I didn’t get no 4g wifi capability deal lol or backup bypass
@@86chavira you’ll have to get the backup camera bypass separately. The 4g capability also has to be purchased separately as you need a service plan with a subscription. The 4g is not necessary tbh
What about your optical wire, did you disconnect
@@roderickr35 if you’re talking about from the existing radio I just left it
@audiesbuilds how do I get the oem CD player working, I can hear it spinning but no sound, info screen keeps saying plug aux, but I don't have 1,I have the bench seat on a 2014 Silverado
@ this radio unit removes the cd player
Pretty greenhouse
You might want to slow your camera. Can make people a little dizzy, and would like to see details .
Sick build dude
I'd grow some straight up gas in there...
I’ve installed a few green houses and this looks so much more solid then the prefabricated metals ones. Way more simple and sleek too I see some home owners spending thousands on them but when I offer to build something like this they never want it. I don’t ever see why haha. How’d you secure the polycarbonate sheeting? They nailed to the wood?
@@christiangarrett9323 tbh it’s definitely way more expensive to build and install one of these but my client wanted something truly unique and I couldn’t find any prefab kit that fit these dimensions so they opted to have me design and build it! I secured the poly sheets via a base channel and a top cap. I used the Apollo System made by Cover Your Pergola. They have some diagrams online that show what I’m talking about.
Gorgeous piece of work… thanks for sharing

Does your push to talk on your steering wheel activate Siri? I noticed you said in your description that you cannot program anything with the steering wheel app. But I am trying to figure out if there is a fix. The only way I can activate it currently is by shouting hey Siri, but I want to use the button the on the wheel. One other question. Why does this system show up like a CarPlay device but doesn’t connect? I am trying to change some apps on the front screen but I can’t get it to connect that way. Any help from anyone would be appreciated! (Also, this video was a lifesaver to install the factory OEM trim, not to mention the wiring harness.)
Found the answer to one of my questions. It is considered zlink under CarPlay if anyone is wanting to change app preferences.
Were you able to use the existing oem microphone and the talk button on the steering wheel??
@ can't use existing oem microphone. the unit isn't connected to the gauge cluster as well on the dash so bear that in mind
Does this work for the Bose system as well?
@@bryantaylor4418 it does not. Please read the description for more info
@ I have the RP5-GM61 Wiring Interface, would this be able to work with it? I see online I need some part but with this interface is this still needed?
@@bryantaylor4418 I’m not exactly sure as this is just what works for my vehicle without the Bose system. You’d have to contact the seller/manufacturer to get a more definitive answer. They’ll be able to help point you in the right direction
Have you done the Bimini? The canopy for the boat?
Do you have a link for that radio or what brand and model is it?
Search up AWESAFE 13 inch for 2015 Chevy Silverado on Amazon and it should be there

How does your backup camera look? Does it look the same or worse?
@@davidmiranda2706 it looks terrible but to be fair it’s always looked terrible since it’s been due for a replacement. However, it’s fine for me as I care more about the functionality haha
@ I agree I figured I’ll ask just incase I did something wrong lol
Where did you hook your steering wheel controls in?
There's a wire that's attached to the canbus. It's an orange one I believe but it's labeled from the wiring picture that comes with the unit. It's only one wire. Hope that helps!
@@audiebuilds it did it is only on the green harness not the one that works for my work truck trim level just looked at the other harness and I see it now 😂
@@MrHiddentiger yeah make sure you disconnect that canbus and reattach it to the other harness! It’s a little learning curve for sure! Let me know if you have any other questions! Happy to help
Awesome video and very informative! I've been looking at doing something like this to mine, but have never seen this brand before. This came out awesome! Ill just have to find out about that Bose decoder you mentioned, as mine is an '18 with Bose system
@@JulioTheBusDriver I’m glad it was helpful! This brand is also compatible with the Bose system version after buying the additional decoder. In their product listing I’m pretty sure they link to it as well. You’ll just have to do a bit of digging. You can also reach out to them for direction. Thanks for watching!
Why wouldn’t you just use a clear drop cloth and trace the bottom of the boat and then transfer it to the plywood it’s MUCH easier and much more accurate than what you did. Also, half inch hardwood plywood is more than enough for strength. You’re just adding a lot of weight with a thicker board.
@@Paradicted a million ways to skin the cat but it’s just the way I did it for this project! Anyhow, that’s a great idea for accuracy and efficiency!

You should have drained all the water out! You're getting water all on the tape because you're being too lazy to get all the water out! That's stupid!
The pipe was repaired. What’s unfortunate is that due to the deterioration of the pipe over time, I had more than 2 more pinhole leaks in other locations so I ended up digging out the whole main line and replacing it with PEX. All is well now, thanks for watching!
Why don't you turn the water off while you do it then drain all that water out of the hole?
The water was off. If you've ever done this before, you'd know that water will typically continue to trickle from the house as gravity is still dispersing it from other fixtures in the home. Thanks for watching!
HELP! I NEED YOU FOR MY HOUSE!!!!
Haha we're located here in Dallas if that's where you are
You use the wrong way to insert with the hammet
'm pretty sure paper towels will micro-scratch the surface (like swirl marks on car paint). I'd recommend trying holding a microfiber w/ warm distilled water on it for a couple minutes first since I think most TVs have chemical-sensitive coatings (e.g. anti reflective).
