“It’s okay to not be okay, but it ain’t okay to stay that way when there’s another way. And Jesus is the way.” - Shane Pruitt
“I haven’t found anything better to help someone overcome that inward focus, that anxiety, than being a part of the movement of God on mission via evangelism, disciple-making, and living on mission.” - Paul Worcester

That’s why I always have to be listening to something or doing something. I love the lord but I don’t want to think of my past. Never been to jail or anything like that but I was addicted to my own pain meds. It took 15 years of my life. I try to minimize my addiction because I never took it to get high. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and degenerative back disease. I have been clean for 9 years and had my first back surgery at age 46. I will turn 47 in 18 days and have to have another surgery because I’m in pain daily. I now live my life in pain and refuse any pain medication. My first one relieved so much pain I didn’t need any pain meds after surgery. Although they wanted to give me Percocet I opted for a non opioid pain med and threw them away since I had so much relief. Unfortunately I thought I was 21 again and re injured my back and I’m in more pain now than I was before. I say all this because I love Jesus but how can I face him when I have a lot of days I wished I wasn’t alive. I have a loving wife and two adult children that I love so much. The problem is I hurt so bad I can’t do the things they want to do. They deserve so much more. I would never take my life but when I have silence all my thoughts come rushing in and I don’t know how to deal with it. I know the lord is all powerful but how can I ask for him to take away my pain when he suffered more pain then I’ll ever feel. He died on the cross for our sins and here I can’t even deal with what I have going on in my life. God Bless you and maybe one day I can face the silence.

It depends how you define heart. Christ's "11th" commandment to love one another states that from love, all other commandments take care of themselves. When we say "heart", there is a countless multitude of emotions that visit our heart. Christ and the Holy Spirit tell us which emotions to listen to, and which ones to ignore.

Man I’m tired of this conversation by and large. There was nothing wrong with most of what was going on with “purity culture.” (That’s a supremely stupid title that we ought not to buy into. When we do, we are conceding ground to people that frequently are wolves, not wounded sheep.) Most of the critics I encounter are people who didn’t follow what they were taught. They engaged in premarital sex and/or pornography, or began dressing in a sexually suggestive manner. Of course they felt shame. They SHOULD. The scriptures makes it clear these things are shameful. What we do with that shame matters massively. Y’all handled that well by the way. The encouragement of simply teaching through the Bible and handling the topic as it arises is wise. It’s massively dishonoring to our brothers and sisters who were leading students years ago to broadly say “they did it wrong and screwed up a generation.” That sounds way more like something the accuser of the brethren would say, don’t you think? Addiction to lust is a solid point. Pointing out that it’s not gender specific is so important too. I’ve got a big chunk of girls openly lusting. I’m so proud of my fellow youth pastors who are having guys cover up at swim time the same way we ask the girls too. Yall shared some good stuff today. Thank you. Keep up the Gospel work. Blessings!

GOD IS *NOT* ALMIGHTY BUT LIMITED TO WORKING THROUGH PEOPLE One of the biggest FALSE beliefs promulgated within Christianity (especially by the Neo Evangelicals) is that God is in DIRECT control of all that happens. But if that were true, then God would be the direct cause of a multitude of evils--natural disasters, pandemics and birth defects! Now, we know when this idea first came along--thousands of year ago when people were living in scientific ignorance. They didn't know that moving tectonic plates caused earthquakes, that fissures in the earth's surface caused volcanic eruptions or that tiny, invisible-to-the-naked-eye, parasitic life forms caused diseases. So, they concluded, falsely, that is was gods and spirits and demons who made things happen, and that the only way to make them do good to people, instead of bad, was to bribe them in some way, usually by killing an animal or another human being! Tragically, this superstitious nonsense continued even after people came to believe in only one God, and the idea that God is in direct control of all that occurs persists to this day among some Christians...which makes no sense...because the person Christians say they believe is the Son of God who came to save them, taught that God NEVER causes bad things to happen (Matthew 5:38-45), and he also explained that, because God is a spirit (John 4:24), He can NOT do anything good either...not directly! However, a lot of Neo Evangelical preachers and teachers say otherwise (well, when it suits their agenda), and they'll point to things like the many healings Jesus performed as proof that God must have the ability to directly intervene in our world. But if this were the case, then why was Jesus' ability to heal the sick so LIMITED? Why, for example, did Jesus have to perform his healings IN PERSON? Why didn't he just simply say, one time--"God, heal every sick person in the world"? If God is all-powerful, it should have been easy for Him to do! But not even Jesus could do that which ought to have been a simple task for the God who, presumably, spoke the universe into existence! Why? Because, as Jesus explained, God's power can only work THROUGH people! Yes, Jesus did say God could and would do many great things, but only when people are WILLING to become the instruments though whom He can work! So, the catch is our FREE WILL! Humanity could be doing so much good, but because people choose not to do good, or worse, are CONVINCED THEY SHOULD NOT EVEN TRY, you have a perfect explanation for why so many bad things happen in the world! Now, who in their right mind would actually try to get people NOT to at least try to stop bad things from happening? Well, how about today's Neo Evangelical teachers and preachers! They would have us believe God (whom they claim is all-powerful) is actually causing all the bad things in the world to happen, because He's got some crazy need, deep down in his nature, that makes him put the hurt on people! They say (just as ignorant, uneducated people did 1000s of years ago) that when bad things happen, it must be because someone made God angry, so he's responding with revenge! Worse, they tell their flocks not to bother doing anything to help "because it's all part of God's plan!" They've got millions of Christians waiting for God to "rapture" them away from the earth, so God won't accidentally hurt them with even worse punishments he's planning to bring upon the earth...though this makes even less sense because, after all, an all-powerful deity could aim his wrath only against his "enemies"! Now, they're not wrong about the world heading toward a "tribulation," but it's not because God is planning to cause world-wide devastation of the environment. No, it's greedy humans who have pushed our environment to the brink of disaster, and they're getting a lot of help from the Neo Evangelical leadership who, many decades ago, made their bed with big corporations, like the Extraction (Oil/Gas/Coal) Industry who have, in their blinding greed, made $Billions at the expense of our habitable world, knowing they could count on the voters in Neo Evangelical churches not to get in their way! So what's going on when people ask God to put a stop to some evil transpiring...and nothing happens? One reason is because God cannot, directly, intervene in our world, but the other reason is because 99.9999% of all the people asking God for help fail to also pray, "God, please let ME be the person through whom You answer someone who is, right now, asking for your help." It’s great to come and talk to god about what is going on in our life, that’s what we do in relationship. But we are forgiven of our sins once and for all. And our sins could never come between us and god, as they have been removed as far as the east is from the west, by the blood of his precious son Jesus. So that nothing could ever come between us again. To come and confess our sins as believers is to remind god of something he himself said he remembers no more. When god looks at us he sees us perfectly righteous, for we are the righteousness of god in Christ Jesus. we are as clean as he is, for as he is so are we in this world. The only thing that clogs our relationship flow with god is the guilt and condemnation the enemy brings to make us feel god is angry and that we are not truly forgiven. The cure for this is not to be sin conscience but righteousness conscience. We don’t need to tell people to remember their sins to confess them, that keeps them focused on self. We need to remind each other we have been made righteous through the cross and point each other to Christ as he is our true identity, and how we need to see ourselves this side of the Cross. Then righteousness will be a natural fruit. Sinful natures will fall off as we begin to understand how truly loved and forgiven we already are.

Another analogy may be that sin is like the plaque formed by fats, cholesterol and the like in our veins and arteries, that blocks the flow of the "River of Living Water" traveling to and from the hearts of mankind.
