Sharing the memories of the railways, one janky video at a time, saving these memories for the future gens.
Trains at Valla Beach.
Now for something with a modern flavour, after taking a walk from my old digs back on the Mid North Coast, I headed down to a level crossing near my house to catch a couple trains passing by.

3001 at Thirlmere.
Переглядів 106Місяць тому
Whilst hanging out with my mates at the wonderful Thirlmere railway museum, I was able to capture an assortment of footage of the engine at multiple locations on the loop line. If you notice the 'squeaking' sound of 3001, my mates & I deduced the possibility of leaking cylinder packing, though it didn't dampen the joy of seeing this grand old loco in action.
3265 making some noise at Wollongong.

After rolling into Wollongong with a sterling run from 3265 & 4501, here we see her taking up the train to move it into sidings to clear the main & servicing the locomotive. With a little slip & a tasty amount of bark, she pulled the sizeable consist out of the station, all with the familiar grace of a C32.

Whilst picking up a couple of mates for a trip to Thirlmere, we waited patiently for C32 class, 3265 'Hunter', heading towards Penrith for a day of shuttles from Penrith to Mt Victoria. It's a short vid but I was due to have something with 3265 on my channel, so I hope you enjoy.

After a frigid but enjoyable run on the Zig Zag Railway, we returned back to Mount Victoria station to climb aboard the Flyer for the return trip to Sydney. The mist & rain made for quite the atmosphere as the two veteran express engines dragged the train back into the station, though the atmosphere was marred a little by the station master telling some naughty people off for being over the yel...
Hauling freight down the Blues.

Whilst awaiting the arrival of 6029 at Springwood, we decided to catch some freight trains coming down from Lithgow whilst at the foot crossing just ahead of Springwood station. We caught a SSR powered coal train with quite a fair bit of tonnage on the drawbar squeal through, followed up by a QUBE container train.
Big steam action at central.

During 2023 & 2024, I was able to capture locomotives 3801 & 6029 at Central station, this little compilation is of the footage I took of these two grand ladies moving about Central station. All of this in my patented, poor quality.
Slipping & sliding through Queanbeyan.

On a dreary Easter morning, prior to getting on the second run of the Picnic Train's shuttle to Bungendore, I made my way out to capture the first run of the day at the rail bridge at Queanbeyan. As the train approached, 5917 broke into slip a few times, making for a nice little audio treat, though I apologize for the jump as her whistle made me flinch. #flinch

A visit to the Strasburg railroad.
Переглядів 246Місяць тому
During my first visit to the United States, I got to finally live out a dream of both visiting & riding behind one of their steam locomotives, namely former Canadian National E-12 mogul, number 89. Having been exposed to Australian steam & railway practices all my life, seeing US steam railroading in person was quite the experience to say the very least.
6029 Bathurst Shuttles
Переглядів 1,2 тис.2 місяці тому
As I took too many videos to properly upload of 6029 & 4501 running around Bathurst, I decided to compile all the footage taken over the Saturday, Sunday & Monday of running, featuring the locations of Tumulla Bank, George's Plains, Perthville & Bathurst itself.

A catch I am very proud of, here we see locomotives 3265 & 3526 charging through Springwood on the climb to Mount Victoria, putting on a great show as they roll through, with 4501 putting on a solid display too.
Onboard 6029 up Tumulla.

Whilst the quality of the footage is a bit underwhelming, the audio of 6029 tackling Tumulla Bank from the observation car behind the locomotive is a good as ever, hopefully this gives you a taste of the shear power of this magnificent machine as it assaults the climb from George's Plains to Wimbledon.
6029 getting a wriggle on through Raglan.

After battling the grades of the Blue Mountains, here we see 6029 with her unusual consist darting through Raglan on her way to Bathurst.
Fireman doing well look at the exhaust! That is heat!
@glynluff2595 yeah, the firemen who ran her on the weekend had her dialed in to a tee.
Worked on this one at the large erecting shop at everliegh as an apprentice, then went on a test up the blue mountains
Would have been an amazing experience.
Erecting Shop? Is that a Brothel?
I wonder if this is the train I heard going 'choo choo' when I lived near Stanmore Station.
I find this video strange and funny! The rest of the world would want to have high speed rails but the British are aspired to good old steam engine trains. They like the old stuff and don't want to build any new and modern train in the HS2 but preferred buying from Japan and France.
Well, this video was taken in Parramatta, NSW, Australia during one of the heritage runs chalked up for the year. Though I can say that 3265 was built in Britain, over 122 years ago.
The British already have HS1, which is high speed (barely). I'm not sure what Britain has to do with this video, though.
❤❤awesome❤
It’s from across the pond.
Choo choo
What a beautiful sound :)
Mallet?
Sadly no my friend, this is a garratt, a 4-8-4+4-8-4 garratt to be precise
We ent up the bank three days ago in the XPT- not nearly as much fun as a steam train. There is a good video of The Flying Scotsman and 3801 doing the climb on a frosty morning in the 1980s (without a diesel tacked on).
A great shot in that superb location, it reminds me of my chasing days. I'm delighted you panned - too many videographers don't.
Thank you very much, I do try to emulate the works of many of the better videographers, though I often come out as more tryhard than anything, lol.
Just doing a job…. What a job!
❤️👍👍👍👍👍🦘🇦🇺🧌
Great engine not even working hard, back in the day when the 60s worked for a living they'd be hauling twice that load
What the heck kind of locomotive is that?
So this is an example of the many different kinds of garratt type steam locomotives that operated here in Australia. Specifically a former New South Wales Government Railways AD-60
@@mr99gto Ta. It’s a new one on me.
Die Garratt Lokomotiven sind schon eine Klasse für sich. In Europa hatten wir die Mallet Lokomotiven, zB. die Bayerische Gt 2×4/4 :)
@@MK-sf6su That’s easy for you to say.
Nice Garret!
DIESEL DEAD ENGINE IN RESERVE in case of breakdown on the main west line. Reasonable rules. This is in Australia west of Sydney nearing Bathurst Im thinking.
Correct Compulsory back up on main lines
A mere Spare Handkerchief....
Has the locomotive been converted to oil fired or is it extra water in the tanker on the rear of the engine? Just spotted Esso on the back of the tanker so is it oil?
No she's still a coal burner, the tank behind her is an ex fuel tanker converted to carry water for the loco.
@@mr99gto thankyou for the info, quite a unique locomotive and well worth preserving.
For those too young to have seen it, you can only watch this and imagine two of these on a heavy coal or freight train working at full throttle (which 6029 is not). We used to stand in awe as their exhausts went 10 metres in the air.
Everything here as far as the eye can see looks like it would go up in flames with one spark !! What could possibly go wrong here eh ?
Not far wrong, the North Yorkshire railway actually aren't allowed to run steam trains during the summer months because of the risk of setting the moors on fire.
Steam trains in Aussie. Thought you only rode camels .
Generally we run our steam locomotives on the mainline during the winter months to reduce the risk of lineside fires, despite how dry the grass looks, it's really not & trust me, I spent a lot of time in that grass during the weekeend. lol
😆 "battling" ay. How about he was running on a yellow till he got the Green signal on the home stick at the end of the platform.
Shouldn't be battling with just a few passenger carri, just throttled back.
Having the diesel assist is disappointing. I remember as a kid seeing Bayer-Garrett AD60s haul long strings of freight cars that would have weighed 4 or 5 times as much as 7 coaches and a diesel electric loco and get the job done.
Gotta make the insurance guys happy and also for the fact that tumulla bank doesnt have a turntable
Excellent shot. Like!
Awesome video like the bridge shot
Fantastic capture great audio
That firebox! Wow✌️
Epic sound of 6029!
So wonderful to see this amazing machine in such beautiful condition, As a kid growing up in Kenya in the 50s, we could hear the Mountain Class Garratts working hard like this, climbing out of the Rift Valley, at night the sound of their efforts and magnificent whistles would carry for miles up into the highlands.
I'd love to have been able to experience that, hearing steam putting in the hard yards.
THe diesel does not appear to be assisting. I assume it's coupled on for providing hotel services?
And also return service
@@voidjavelin23 Compulsory back up, to operate on all main lines there must be back ups etc
Saw this loco in Canberra back in about 2,000 and thought to myself you are absolutely beautiful, but I doubt you'll ever be in steam again . Well , she's back in no uncertain terms . Hope to see her in steam someday . 😊
Hats off to the original surveyors who could plot out such an incline. Lovely video.
Clearly a fairly steep incline, is this in India?
Sorry, this is in New South Wales Australia
What country is this in please?
NSW Australia
A pox on those ugly diesels!
What a sound!
The video doesn't do the sound justice, I can tell you that much.
In about 1958 I recall nearly being blown off Leura station when a double headed ~ YEs 2 Garrats were taking a coal train to Sydney WOW!
Bit of a climb that? Fond memories standing on pedestrain bridge Castlerock Co. Londonderry 75+ yrs ago love the smell of steam magic memories! 😅
Beautiful noise
A 77yr old with tear in his eye. Brings back boyhood memories. Brilliant. Thanks
Lovely monster! Wheelslip sounds like a struggle to me 😂 really? Three pushers?
Usually no pushers with 6029 due to it's power. 3 diesels because it was a combined train. Supposed to be 2 separate trains but due to heavy rain & track closures both trains were combined.
PITY About the Diesel
You're right. It seems to be smoking even more than the steam engine. This was always a trait I noticed with NSW diesels.
@currentbatches6205 Theres no loop at Wimbledon so the diesel is required.
Had to look up where on earth "Tumulla Bank" was! Got it mate....not far from Sydney, down under. Greetings from near Atlantic City, New Jersey in the US of A. Fine looking locomotive you have there. A great restoration job on #6029. Well done!
She is a grand locomotive to say the least, granted I have to admit, the videos I took does not do the shear noise this thing creates any form of justice.
Brilliant! Hats off to everyone who made that possible.
Was a great weekend. 6029 performed beautifully.
6029 not struggling. Running slow due to a signal check.
Great stuff! Thank you for the vid.
Why is 3642 in blackim used to her bright gleming green
They put her in black for a limited time before she finally goes in for her much needed overhaul.
The Queen of Australia ride the rails once agina!
