Cigar box, baritone, and MIDI guitars - often with Loopy Pro, sometimes a bass ukulele, a Seagull Merlin dulcimer, or various gimmicks like the magnetic X-Pick or the Pickaso guitar bow. Covers and originals, tricks and tutorials; began during the 2020 coronavirus quarantine but will continue as long as it remains any fun. ("Unlikely" is the ideal, of course many of the clips are just regular.)
EP157 ONE BUTTON: Free LOOPY PRO Template for Complex LIVE LOOPING (controlled by your Space Bar)
How simple could an efficient PEDALBOARD be? Here's a free LOOPY PRO template I've been building over the summer, for running complex song structures - or just simple layers - by one Bluetooth SPACE BAR. (You can map your own devices as you want, but any connected space bar might just work straight away ... let me know?) Basically, it's just a combination of how lazy I am and how smart Loopy is, but I do think it's become pretty POWERFUL: you can easily manage instruments and drum patterns if you want to, change control profiles on the fly (that's where it becomes more creative than I'd quite realized), or just concentrate on one loop in surprising ways. Make it your own, very simple or very complex - find it in the link below and tell me what you think!?

EP156 SKETCHBOOK 2: Song Drafting, SIMPLIFIED (Loopy Pro template)
Переглядів 3724 місяці тому
Since my first SKETCHBOOK template, I was informed of some cool new features in LOOPY PRO that helped make this actually easy to use (much clutter has been removed as well) - so I needed to take a little break from my break from doing more videos in the summer... :) In short, the template comes with 10 slots for storing different riffs or song drafts (they now remember the tempos automatically)...

Very nice! How are you triggering specific midi drum sounds from the guitar?
Thanks! I use Midi Guitar 2; for the precise routing, see my "Episode" 144 on Drums in Loopy Pro more generally...
@@UnlikelyArrangements oh nice. I have that app, but I haven’t tried it in a long time. I’ll have to check out your video 144 and give it another try. Thanks!
It’s amazing and complex. I would certainly pick some parts in my playing. I am just about beginning in LP though. One more things the sounds (instruments) you were playing with vst n your guitar were amazing. What were you using and how ?
Thanks! I’ll probably make a video of all that stuff at some point, but am a bit short of time at the moment… So the short version on the guitar stuff is Gigfast Lite with some NAM profiles for guitars (maybe some Bass Mint to boost?), and the synth sounds are played via Midi Guitar 2 which is good but 3 is on the horizon. The sounds it plays are ”auto-sampled” from good but slightly unusable sources (World Piano, SampleTank) to an app called Audiolayer - it’s a bit clumsy to use, but once you have the sounds in, it switches them very swiftly and is also light on memory (so I don’t have to pack Loopy Pro full of separate synth apps as well, given it already hosts everything I mentioned above and then some...)
@@UnlikelyArrangements man this is insane. You must be a magician. Thanks appreciate your response. Look forward to your video
Лупер тема, звук мерзкий, автор еблан
Thank you so much! Fantastic!
Genius!
Thanks! Yes, it is complex to get one’s head around, but I hope people can take the parts they need and skip the rest… Basically the red buttons go through the loops in different ways, and each has its own control profile pre-programmed - but if you prefer to use a four-button (physical) controller, say, you can of course use that to target the (red) buttons you find useful. Trying to keep to ONE physical button is part joke, maybe, but also it reduces how much you have to remember while playing… As to the (coloured) step dials, one can freely just forget them - but if you have your own way with different instruments and drum patterns, you may consider hiding the changes in these dials, so they go in time with layers and sections… Basically it’s for my own use, but I hope others can at least get some ideas from it :)
This is amazing stuff. I downloaded the template and it’s incredible what you’ve managed to do. But man, is it complex!. I get lost trying to follow the flow, how the step dials trigger buttons, at some point they switch profiles… all very very clever. I’d love a detailed run-down to see if it can clear things up. Although it’d have to be way long!. Thanks for this, amazing work 🤟🙌
Incredible sir!
Super!!
How is your guitar connecting to Loopy then. Can you share the connections ?
@@musicallyunpluggedmanish9023 One direct usb cable from the amp's audio usb port to the iPad or iPhone, also works with a camera adapter if they have Lightning ports. Check the end of the full video, and perhaps the "Episode" after that too...
Very nice
Nicely done - the tabs are very helpful, just wish the full songs were listed with licks and intros, etc
Thanks! I arranged these years ago as just such a medley, so the missing parts would have to be figured out separately - but I hope this serves as something for you to build and go further...?
I got loopy pro on my Ipad and I got Spark Live. I need help with loopy pro help connecting to Spark Live and Recording loops.
It should work by just connecting the LIVE's "audio/data" port (at the back) to the iPad via usb-c; if you have a Lightning port on the iPad, you'll need an Apple Camera adapter too (as in my earlier video, EP154; compare to EP153). That should be enough, and you should be able to control the looper volume via the LIVE's "music" knob; in Loopy Pro, it's probably best to disable "monitoring" from the input that it should recognize automatically. As for Loopy, there's a detailed manual at loopypro.com, a very helpful user group on Facebook, and loads of instructional videos on UA-cam - among my own, EP138 contains the most detailed beginners' advice though the case there is rather special. Hope this helps?
Any chance you could share that LP Project on PatchStorage??
Thanks for asking - this one is so reliant on all sorts of AuV3 that it's bound to look messy at best, so I'd rather not share it publicly (if I still find it). But if you want to look at some of the programming, I can send it over email - feel free to hit me with a request at unArrg[at]icloud.com?
Interesting!
😇😇😇😇😇😇😇
Beyond cool 😎 I like the view of the picking hand showing technique 👍🏻
Thanks! It's a fun technique: hit the guitar a bit harder and you get the snare sound - thanks to an app called Fosfat (within Loopy Pro, being only used as a mixer here). I'll make some longer videos on these drum experiments later. How's your progress? 🙃
@@UnlikelyArrangements The PreSonus interface has no ghost phantom power. I got an Amazon adapter and it didn’t work. Just got a proper Apple adapter to have dual lightning input to iPad and things are looking promising. I have had an unexpected health issue and that slowed me up a bit. Getting better and should be more ambitious in a few days 👍🏻
Hope it works out - still, health goes first!
That my friend is wicked!
That’s a very awesome riff. I like the harmonic note in it.
Very cool short !
Thanks for the ideas and interesting demos. I’m dangerously close to getting Loopy Pro working for me 👍🏻
👍🏻 I recently put together a baritone guitar. A friend at the local guitar shop had a new Warmoth baritone neck he had for a project but he never started. I bought it for $100US. Then on Craigslist I happened to find a solid mahogany Warmoth strat style body with everything but a neck for $70. What are odds of finding both parts exactly what I needed from the same manufacturer? It sounds great but I need to sound better… We need to be less critical of ourselves though and enjoy the ride.
Incredibly impressive bravo sir
Freaking wild, 👍🏻 I have Loopy Pro, iPad and 5 months later only have produced one lame loop 😢 Back to my old Digitech JamMan looper I think until I can find a live person via Zoom or FaceTime to help me.
I would be glad to help at some point, if our time zones are aligned enough for Zoom calls :). But before that, please drop me an email (at unArrg[at]icloud.com) to clarify what you hope to do, with some technical specifications - what's your interface with the iPad, do you need to use footswitches and so on? Loopy Pro can be very simple but also immensely complex, and I reckon it's not for everyone even if I would always recommend trying it out!
Can’t decide on digistix vs slammer? Overall value Digistix but slammer is very cool.
DigiStix has more sounds and a complex interface - Slammer is simpler but has an edge to it that I certainly dig a lot!
Thanks for very useful tutorial! 💪👍 what kind of wireless guitar connector You use?🤔🤠
Thanks! In this one, it's a Lekato WS-50 5.8 GHz.
Maybe you should have never bought it
This was golden!. Totally my cup of tea. ❤️
Such an incredibly useful songwriting tool! This is a great direction to keep pushing toward.
Where does the bass come from ? You Played it with your guitar... an octaver ? But it sounds more the a slap bass sample ?
It does sound slappy, yes, but it's just a random combo of plugins within Loopy Pro: QVox to PRIMO to Tonestack PRO to TS Barricade...
sorry, I don't understand your answer: at the beginning of the video we can see that you play the bass with the guitar. How did you pitch down the Guitar an octave without latency?
In those terms, my octaver effect here is the plugin QVox, but then I added all those others - all live and all inside Loopy Pro - to make it sound more convincing.
@@UnlikelyArrangements Great, Thank you. I will try. It grooves and sounds exremly good !!!
That‘s cool!
So beautiful!
como sonar de guitarra a bajo ?
It's a fairly random combination of plugins within Loopy Pro: QVox to PRIMO to Tonestack PRO to TS Barricade...
@@UnlikelyArrangements nuchas gracias bro
This is very cool -- I think I need to play around more with Loopy (I normally use it as a plug-in for AUM). Thanks for the shout-out on our app!
No problem, it's a great app I've been using for years!
So cool! Love it!
I think this is one of the very best ideas to come along in a very long time. I totally need something that does this!
Thanks so much! I think it's pretty neat too, and I certainly need it myself! 😎
nice..but loopy pro dont work on android yet
Hello ! Any way to change the guitar presets via midi ?
There is a physical MIDI input in the back, if you have something to put there; MIDI commands are listed in the manual. There is a wireless controller for the Sparks too, but people seem to struggle with them...
Ideally you could send MIDI from Loopy through the usb, but the Spark doesn't currently support it
@@UnlikelyArrangementsthe spark controlx not yet released in France will allow the control of the presets change but cost a lot. The solution would be maybe to plug two wireless midi from CME. One into the spark midi and another into a soundcard with a controler or a midi keyboard plugged on it 😅 the advantage would be to have a wireless solution not only for a spark amp. Am I right ?
@@ericfreget I think it should work but haven't tried those either 🙃. When I want full control, I use other guitar plugins that I can manage inside Loopy Pro (as in my "Episode" 148) and run it to the Spark's stereo inputs 3/4 - it's quite nice as just a monitor as well.
Ok Thx for your answer ! Why don’ t you just get rid of the effects via the input one instead of plugging the guitar in the 3/4 inputs ? Btw, you rock as a guitarist !
That’s nine kinds of awesome 😊
There is a huge latency on the Bluetooth channel that makes it practically unusable for live looping. Even hardware AUX input is somehow connected to the Bluetooth channel and has the same latency :(
Yes, If you want layers and complexity. No, if you only need one quick backing track which is what I demonstrate here: there is latency in the transition (twice in the video), but it hardly matters. It was a bummer to notice there is a lag even over the usb, though - in the Spark LIVE it works, not quite with the MINI. As to Bluetooth, there is apparently a practically no-latency protocol coming up, as well...
Hi I need some help ! I plugged a usbc cable in the spark live and started the app digistix as a drum machine. Then when I record my guitar on a donut it record also the beat ! What did I did wrong ?
I presume you have DigiStix as an audio source in Loopy? Check its "destinations" in the mixer view and see that it's not going to any colour. As for the guitar input, check also if you have "monitoring" on or off - off is better for playing, but I had mine on so I could screen record all the sound on the iPad. Hope this helps?
OR if you have DigiStix open as a standalone app, try opening it within Loopy Pro instead, as "audio unit" and see it's not recorded into any colour destination (as I supposed to be the case in my other reply).
Thx a lot for your answer. I didn’t muted an audio loop I recorded few days later so everything is finally fine 😂
Is there any chance one could add a external midi pedal to control the loop pro? I thought about those with Bluetooth connection but I guess it wouldn't work because you are already using the Bluetooth to connect the guitar to your phone right? So maybe one with a cable but nothing came to mind. There's a UA-camr called Markus k who does something similar but with a I pad and a fcb1010.
In my very latest video from last week I showcase a Bluetooth MIDI controller with Loopy Pro on an iPhone, and certainly you can use a wired controller too. Also, there can be different Bluetooth connections at the same time, so one for the audio and another for MIDI might work, but I'm not sure. Let me know if you test it out?
Btw, a wired controller will likely disable the phone mic I'm using here, so it becomes more complex as you should route everything through the interface. On the other hand, I regularly do that sort of thing too, with the Harley Benton MP-500 aka MeloAudio TS Mega. Smaller than what Markus K has, but quite ok with eight foot switches etc...
Markus K is very nice to watch and listen to. I hope to meet him one day. This is a really good video you have made. I’m getting closer to going Loopy. Thanks 👍🏻
@@kerryfromaj9032Thanks! Markus K also has a very good hour-long Loopy Pro tutorial with the title, “The Blues Looper Man reveals his Secrets”, be sure to check that out! (Inbar Heyman has good ones too, though she doesn’t do guitar as such.)
ua-cam.com/video/DShHRBMnXmM/v-deo.html
So you don’t use the audio bluetooth ?
I have in some other situations, but here the data/audio usb actually works in and out with no latency - which is always an issue with current Bluetooth protocols. Can be used with an adapter for Lightning connectors (and hence even old iPhones as shown in my follow-up video), but I couldn't quite make it work on my Spark MINI.
(Ok, it works on the MINI too, if you use usb-C to an iPad Pro; in most other scenarios you'd need some extra power from an adapter or such)
Great ! Thx !
Nice job! Do you share your Loopy Pro template?
Sure, drop a request to the obscure email in my channel description? Not sure if it will be compatible though, as I’m running a BETA version of Loopy on this iPhone. The template itself is very basic, however, so if there’s some specific aspect you’re interested in, I could just walk through it in these comments :).
I love it!
Thanks Alex!
Spark now has an octaver?
Nope. As stated, it's other plugins within the looper app, but it does play live through the LIVE...
@@UnlikelyArrangements I have the Xsonic looper. I saw nothing of any app.
Well in this video, and my previous Spark LIVE posting, all you see is the LOOPY PRO app, first on an iPad and now an iPhone - just connect it to the Spark LIVE via usb and you’re good to go. As I try to demonstrate, it’s a bit more versatile than most - well, any - hardware loopers; in fact you can build it according to your needs for every song if you want to. (AND as I show here, you CAN add external controllers to Loopy Pro, too, if that’s your thing.)
Excellent! Subscribing :)
Thanks for all of these deep dives into gear and Loopy Pro. And thanks for suggesting Live Loopers.
