15 Degrees Rotation per Hour
A full-length video of an hour's worth of Earth rotation. They say the Earth rotates at the rate of 15 degrees an hour. 360 degrees in one 24 hour day. I have had some folks tell me that they don't believe the Earth is a sphere and must be flat and non-moving. They also say that if the Earth spins incredibly fast, it would sling everything off. Speed is relative to size. The immense size of the earth negates the perceived speed factor. So I came up with this little illustration.
NOTE: This is not to scale or even scientific BUT for illustration purposes only. I'm not here to explain the physics.
I coupled a small clock mechanism to the axis of an old decorative desk globe. Essentially, the globe was the same weight as a styrofoam ball and did not strain the clock mechanism. I sat a pointer near the equator and left a video camera recording the entire hour. It is painfully hard and boring to watch the progress. You can watch a BlueBloods episode or two Gilligan's Island episodes while you wait. Although the earth rotates on its axis at 1037 mph at the equator, it is deceiving in perspective of the sheer size of the earth. It rotates at 15 degrees an hour. Painfully slow to watch. Takes a whole day (approx 24 hours) to make one turn and only make 365 turns per YEAR.
Comments are turned off because I know who will gripe.

Moon Movement in Photography

The reason capturing still photos are hard is that, without using an equatorial motor mount or a proper tripod, is keeping it stationary and on the focal point can be a daunting task. It also helps to have a remote for your camera to snap the shutter without touching the camera. Camera shake, small adjustments can all be hard while focusing on the moon and making your shot. This is not a video ...
Tractor Alternator Upgrade Ford 3000
Переглядів 31 тис.2 роки тому
This video chronicles an episode of the pitfalls and joys of living "the tractor life." Today we need to upgrade this 1970 model Ford 3000 tractor with a gasoline engine, from an old style generator to a little more up-to-date alternator system. This should improve the charging and lighting system on the tractor. Before the upgrade, the lights would pull down the battery after a while and make ...

John Deere Z355E Zero Turn Mower Gas Tank Removal
Переглядів 23 тис.2 роки тому
I decided to make a video showing how I was able to repair a mower that had accidentally gotten bad gas or trash in the tank and needed cleaning out. I did not find any other videos showing this procedure for this mower. The mower was a 48-inch cut zero turn mower John Deere Z355E. After filling the tank from a gas can that had sat through winter months, I believe it had drawn moisture or maybe...

A song I wrote. It has been kicking around in my head for a while. Every day it is the same grunge of daily work but I find it so much easier when I take the Lord with me in all that I do. I included this video of my actual trek to work. I call it my "DRIVING TO WORK" concert. Lyrics Copyright 11/1/2019

Did you have to change your 6 volt coil heard it would burn the points up and noticed you don’t have power steering, same here
1st, this is a great video!! I have a 1970 Ford 2000 with an aftermarket front loader. Thanks for posting this for all of us to learn from your expertise!! I followed your instructions and wired it exactly as you instructed. Started it up and it worked perfectly, 1st try. I opted not to buy a kit and simply bought an alternator for a 1974 Chevy C10 Pick-up with a 350 V8. There is no tach connection is the downside, but it is locally available and has a lifetime guarantee for 1/2 the price of a kit. I used existing mounting bracket with a 7" x 3/8" bolt to secure the alternator to the lower bracket. To align the alternator pulley, I attached a piece of 1" angle iron to the original engine mounts then drilled holes in the angle iron to allow for alignment of the alternator pulley. Final adjustment was completed using steel spacers from Home Depot on the 7" bolt.
Thanks for the nice comment. To be honest, I would have been just as well off to have went your route by buying a GM alternator. This kit was poorly put together. The alternator still works great but the work it took to properly mount in modification made the kit mounting parts worthless. Your resourcefulness in mounting yours seems to have done really well. And, it makes the tractor more reliable in the field.
Certainly amazing. One of best I have seen. Answered several questions I had about generator on my 1974 Ford 3400.
Did it work you never showed it.
You are correct, But I did start the tractor after completing it and showing the completed job as a success and the meter showing 14 1/2 volts charging. And, I opted for just being silly and taking it for a spin around the field with the bush hog mower to show it worked just fine. You can see this at the end of the video along with my obvious lack of vocal abilities. The problem with some of these kits are that they are not always so cut and dried, and ready to install. I actually could have bought a GM alternator and made my own bracket. But even modifying the bracket they sent saved me some time. They supplied a pretty decent wiring harness. The instructions were horrible, faded and hard to read. If a person was not familiar with automotive charging systems, they might have been a little lost. You will have to replace the belt because the length will be different and mine had to be longer. If I missed your point about it not working, I appolgize.
Your video helped me a lot thank you so much, Ricky
35 years ago I put a 1974 Vega alternator on a 1962 Ford 641 tractor. 3 wire, charges 13.5 volts at idle. Weren't no UA-cam or internet then, figured it out on my own. Looked like it came from factory when I finished.
@user-yj7yn4fi4l good deal. I used to work around a lot of things that way my self. I was always upgrading old 6 volt 50's cars and trucks to 12 volt by using 70's and 80's alternators from mostly GM vehicles. Pleased to meet ya!
Awesome video! And this looks way way easier than my kubota mower. I pretty much had decided against it because of how much struggle my kubota gave me and was just gonna use heet but that didn’t fix the problem. After watching this video and how much time I spent starting it over and over and over and over to try to burn the contaminated water, I should’ve just removed the tank lol. Thanks again sir
larry we watched your video.we have a 48 inch zero turn.mine has a fuel lite that tells when getting low on fuel.quit working i checked bulb.bulb is good.didn't want to get into a bunch of trouble.i guess the fuel lite works the same way as a sensor.have any ideas ??.
Nevermind..
Someone help him with these videos for crying out loud...
I have the same exact problem. I’ve already tried all the things you mentioned in the beginning of the video. Can’t wait to try this out. Thank you sir for the instruction.
This was very helpful thank you.
Have the same problem thanks buddy
Great video!
Great video...thanks for taking the time to do that. Helped tremendously!
Thank you sir
Very good video thanks. I'm about ready to start the same converting on a ford 3000
Thanks for the video! The best thing I got out of this was learning how to remove the plastic cowling :)
Thank you, that was easy!
PERFECT! Same exact mower and same exact issue. Took me 30 minutes to remove, flush and reassemble. Runs great now.
Awesome! Glad it was of value and helped. Sometimes different mowers can be difficult to figure how to get to hidden parts, such as gas tanks.
Thanks a lot. You saved me a lot of time fooling around with trial and error, to do this.
Thank you Larry!
Thanks Larry! Walked out yesterday to find my gas cap was not on. We've had massive amounts of rain, so now the tank has who knows how much water in it. Of course that didn't occur to me until AFTER trying to start it several times. Now I get to drain everything...
My exact situation! I poured maybe a gallon in from my can and left the cap off of the tank while looking for more gas around the house and got sidetracked. Starting sprinkling rain for maybe 15 minutes and when I went back outside to start mowing I noticed the cap off. Funny thing is, it mowed fine for the next 30 minutes. The last 10 minutes of my mowing I could tell it was running rougher. Tried using heet to turn the water to gas but that didn’t work. Gonna have to pull the tank
Hi. I have the same conversion on my 3000 and the belt just broke. There's no number on it. Do you know what belt you used? None of the places that sell the kit can tell me the belt part number. Thanks.
I know it has been a year since you asked this question and I apologize. I'm afraid I'm in the same boat you are in now. the numbers have rubbed off my belt since I bought it but I had to measure to get one to fit originally.
I’m like most of the people commenting I found this very timely. Looks just like my z235. Thanks for sharing and God bless.
This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks
Thank you for this video, it helped me. Why pay someone else to do what I should be able to do.
I'm tractor drive in.1973
Very nice tractor
Thank you for this video. Rodents had through some wires of my Z335M, so your video showed me how to remove the large plastic piece, to get at the wires. Much appreciated! EASIER WAY TO FIX DEBRIS IN THE FUEL TANK: I also had debris get in the fuel tank last summer. The repair shop picked it up and "cleaned it" but after awhile it would run and stop, because there was still debris in the tank. This is how I fixed debris in the tank: Siphoned the gas out of the tank as much as possible. Left the gas cap off. Disconnected the fuel line at the tank end of the fuel filter. Inserted a needle valve device (designed to blow up an air mattress) and blew air through the line toward the tank for a couple hours. This made the tank completely dry. Then connected a sears (2.5 in) shop vac hose to the open fuel filler hole. Ran the shop vac (suck) for a couple hours with the needle valve (blow). This completely fixed the problem.
WOW. I'm gonna try that. Can't get fuel to the filter. So once the tank dries up, the vaccuum picks up the debris? I tried siphoning the old gas out and putting in new, but that didn't help.
Yes that’s the idea. Run the air mattress inflator to dry the tank. Then keep the inflator on and add the shop vac to get the dried debris. Easier than removing the fuel tank. Good luck
@@scotts.4086 It worked. Also found the wire to the starter solenoid was showing a lot of copper so I wrapped it in elec tape and put it all back together. Started right up and runs great. Not sure which thing fixed it though, ty
Thanks for the video. Just what I needed in the nick of time.
This is an amazing video!!!!
i just bought this kit for my 4500 backhoe and its definately not bolt on. i have to slot the holes and im going to have to get a different belt. the kit gets it done, but its very poorly made.
Yeah, I had to slot the bracket as well. The spacer that came with it was useless, and I had to make one. I reused my old top adjusting bracket from the old generator. I heated and bent it to shape. And like you, a new belt was needed. These kits are not well-thought-out it seems. The wiring harness was good that came with the unit.
@@larryheninger3499 i have to assume the harness was good because it came from the alternator not the kit. i have the 301 diesel and the diesel bracket will work. i ran the nut down on the bolt and just got it to bend the u bracket to the spacer.
I am from Poland, I have got 4000 model and I use alternator from ursus c-360 and it match surprisingly well and IT cost 1/4 price od this kit
Didn't like that top bracket rubbing the sheet metal. Did you get it off enough not to wear a spot?
I think you may be referring to the top adjusting bracket. If so, I ended up not using the bracket with the kit because it did not allow enough adjustment for the new belt and as I recall, it did rub the sheet metal. I instead took the original bracket and shaped it to fit the offset and it allowed a longer adjustment and better clearance on top.
Last kit I installed came from S and it was complete with every thing
What size bolt did you use on the tensioner bracket?
Hi, Sorry for the late reply. I have been out on the property for the last weeks working and not around the computer much. The tensioner bracket is attached to the top of engine block (on the gasoline engine) where a cover is located for a water jacket. You use the outside bolt closest to the alternator to run through the bracket. Of Course, the bolt that is used for the adjusting slot, screws into the alternator. You should check your alternator for proper thread size and bolt length because some of these alternators may be metric that comes in kits or if sold as a lone unit. I would hate to give you a size, and you damage your threads in the aluminum housing. Thanks for watching!
So that’s why the 10mm sockets go missing.
Yeah, I always figured they went to the same place missing socks went to. But sometimes my junk tool drawer comes in handy.
Thank you Larry. I went and left the gas cap open after a refill, then continued on to cut the rest of the grass. Anyway the gas is bad now and a new gas filter did not fix the problem. I was wondering how to get the tank out to clean it, and your video showed me how.
Lol, i did the same thing.
How did you disconnect that black clip on seat
If you are talking about the wire retainer clip, It will slide sideways to unseat the catch. I usually just pinch it up and use a twisting motion. But it may be easier to hold down on the bottom and with the other hand unsnap the locking portion of the ring. If you examine the snap you will see where it comes together. It is a typical automotive wire restraint.
Thank you for this video just ordered a conversion kit very helpful ✝️✝️✝️
Glad it was helpful!
John Deere has the worst gas’s tank in the industry. The only fuel indicator is a red light that you cannot see easily. The fuel opening you cannot see the fuel and is a terrible place to put fuel in.
I have to agree on this particular tank. It's construction is heavy enough but does not allow for any visual inspection and level indication is zip past the little light that says " Your'er OUT!" They already have a place at the tank for a level indication, I don't think it would break the bank for them to add a $30 dollar indicator to a $3900 dollar machine. Thanks for watching!
Larry how do you remove the fuel pickup to clean it.
I guess I should have expanded on that part of the video to include how to pop that cap off to remove the pick-up line. The line has no filter inside the tank end or a screen. The top "cap" has small clips that should be handled very carefully and not forced. I used two small o-ring removal picks that were very slim to maneuver up under and depress the catches. There is probably a dealer tool, but I have no idea what it may be. But it came loose fairly easily and just popped back in place when I re-installed it. It has a O-Ring seal around the hole. The tube come out as one piece and I cleaned and replaced it. My blockage was actually in the 90 degree bend at the top. Hope this helps.
You may just want to just run something through it if you are unsure and don't want to chance breaking it. Then rinse out the tank. It is a straight through pipe and bend.
@@larryheninger3499 something like pipe cleaner ?
@@TheDryLife That might be reasonable as long as the fibers don't shed or come off.
Thank you Larry This could not have come at a better time for me.
