Personally I like the concept of this show, but not the show itself. Like, the idea of someone making a hotel to try to redeem sinners is great, but the execution is so flawed I have trouble enjoying it. They most likely knew that they had little time, I heard they had 12 episodes but then it was cut to 8, but I'm not sure. Either way, it's a short amount of time for all the story they tried to cram in. I saw somebody say something along the lines of "If you don't have enough time to tell your story, then don't do it and tell a smaller portion of it, instead." Which I really think they could've done. They could've focused more on Angel's story or Sir Pentious' redemption for the first season. As for the designs, I like most of them. However, I know this may be annoying, but I think Alastor's design has too much red. Not for any sort of "it looks ugly" reason, but because a lot of the shades of red blend together for me. Half the time, I don't see the stripes on his coat, or Alastor blends into the wallpaper of the Hazbin Hotel. Again, it's less of a "ugly" thing, but more of a "I genuinely have trouble seeing him because a lot of the backgrounds are red" thing. Look, I love red, but there's so much red it genuinely is hard for some people to see what's happening. Especially some colorblind people, who I've seen making posts talking about how they're having trouble watching the show because they're unable to see the color red and that being one of the most common types of colorblindness. Anyways, I do have a lot more I could say, but that'd be an essay length comment. So, here's two if my main things.

Ugh, stop adding the word dragon to titles of books where there are no dragons, full stop! its so misleading. When I see dragon in the title I'm expecting proper fantasy, and real dragons. not a girl with an attitude being vaguely compared to a dragon. dragons imply a particular setting, there should be not street lights, cars, guns or cell phones!

Not to go all figure skating nerd on here but it’s so extremely difficult to change disciplines in figure skating. Like… going from pairs skating to singles extremely difficult because the method of jumping is quite different as well as the elements. From what I’ve seen it’s easier for a singles skater to transition into other disciplines than it is to go the other way around. I know many singles skaters who have started trying ice dance, because although it’s not EASY singles skaters tend to be more equipped with the skills to go to another discipline. AND FURTHERMORE I sincerely doubt she’s going to be able to win GOLD a short while after changing disciplines. I can’t remember which gold she won but any one is ridiculous. American nationals? The American field is huge, one of the largest federations. 4CC? Worlds? Ridiculous. And just as someone who’s a huge figure skating fan this book just irritated me.

Just want to share somethint as a long time diehard X-men fan of the comics and franchise (not as criticism but bc i thinks its fun to talk about): so one of the most interating things to fans is how the X-Gene works and decides powers bc sometimes siblings and family have similar powers or at least similar ways they look and sometimes its random and sometimes siblings cannot use powers on each other. The rules arent TOO loose but it seems almost conversational. Largely bc X-Genes require stressors to activate. Like anxiety and fight or flight responses will activate them aslong with external stress. What this reveals to fans is the X-Gene is largely sentience (something corroborated in recent stories when they reveal how the Phoenix Force works for all mutants). The movies dont have this but the comics know that mutant X-Genes are kinda Cosmic Science bc it has a whole attachment to the lore of the Celestials, Deviants, Eternals etc. Essentially, X-Genes are so interesting as a magic system bc its emphasis on evolution not being stactic or independently biological or even bound to literalness but also enforced by the journey a person goes through and how often they throw themselves into a situation where the fight, flight, fawn or freeze response aligns with their internal components. The X-Men are so powerful bc of how repeatedly they experience stressors in proximity to other X-genes that their systems have advanced INSANELY by their union. Just some fun thoughts about the X-gene vs Powerless as a system that i feel people trying to harp on it miss (such as with books like Powerless)

I haven't read it, but i kind of understood that it was about college-aged characters and might have spice. It's spicier than the cover looked (to me), but it wasn't that surprising. I think this has to do with people having a weird perception of art, coz I've seen so many readers online call any form of illustrated people "cartoons" and therefor they must be kiddy content. The Icebreaker cover comes off "young", but if you combine that with the summary, you'd know they're young adults. Hence, if all I had was the physical book in a store, no Goodreads or google, it would come off as older YA or NA to me. I also think the publishing industry is moving towards more illustrated covers while the masses still relate cover illustrations with "kiddy", and it was just bad timing that this book got popular and a lot of people mistook it for a younger demographic. I still think it's weird to bang in the presence of non-consenting people. Otherwise, I also think it's a typical romance not worth rising an uproar over.

17:05 I don't like the phrase "feminism left my body", but at this point i treat it as a meme and ignore it. It's a chronically online kind of saying. Most women saying it are joking for the most part, I think. It's usually coupled with "I can cook and clean" and/or horny thoughts.

A comment about 17:20 and links with 27:48. And this will sound like I'm reaching, but whatever. And you should run this by a woman, so yeah, this probably won't make any sense, but I'll try. So, what we have to imagine while reading a line like that is the female character going on her head "I want to be his bword" or something similar. Simone de Beauvoir brought this up in one of her books, the point that a woman does want to be independent and have control and so on, but also be able to say, surrender herself, let herself be taken, in some other situations. Like, they don't want to be trench-hard all the time. I'm not an expert in SdB, so someone may try to shoot me down and point out the inaccuracies, but I don't think it's incorrect in what I'm trying to say. So, this reaction of seeing someone super hot and going "make me your etc" may resonate with some of Hannah Grace's viewers, and is supported later in the text with the lines you mention around 27:48. Has Hannah Grace read Beauvoir and more importantly believes that her readers have done so as well, or is she misunderstanding feminism in some level... I think it's something best left for an interview (people always run out of questions in those, why not go deep into a topic like this?). PS: hey! someone else found this point interesting too! Nice, I'm not alone.

    • @nikki-b

“Feminism leaving my body” is just a meme, unfortunately (and overused in romance). Though, I guess the author meant it literally here with how she decided to end this book. 🙃

Taylor Swift's people must have decided it's not good PR to go after romance books referencing her or her songs. It's really common in booktok favs especially. A few days ago I watched a review of a historic romance book that was named after one of her songs, and that appeared to be the series theme.

17:19 - so interestingly enough, there is a specific type of feminism called political lesbianism (i wanna say it came up during second-wave feminism but it has been a minute since i studied this LOL) which basically argues that women who are in relationships with men are complicit in their own oppression, so in theory, that could be a line of thinking that is in line with this particular brand of feminism. that being said, i highly doubt the author was referring to this in that one throwaway line 😂

I'm taking a break from writing, and what floored me was you calling it "upsetting" LOL. I also really hate how parents just ignore ratings. Ratings were put in place by parents to avoid their kids seeing shite they shouldn't. Personally I think it's because they see "grade reading level" and think that's the same as an age rating, when it's not. My books are for adults, but I write in a like casual manner, easy to understand. So I'm like 6th-8th which is about where American Adults read. Like PLEASE don't give your kids my books lol.

I think Stan Lee & Kirby originally designed the X-Men (and mutants in general) as a way to not have to create intricate and specific original backstories for why *every* single superhero or villain that had powers. But you’re 100% right. Having a mutant gene that turns your eyeballs into portals to another dimension so you can shoot concussive blasts is a bit silly when you have other mutants who just have bird wings or webbed toes.

I swear, so many of these authors who write stories with a colonizer bad guy romance interest want to have what ATLA had with Zuko, but they just cannot seem to understand what actually made Zuko an incredible character AT ALL. Not to mention that Zuko wasn't actually paired with someone he colonized in the end. I do like Zukka a lot as a concept but there's definitely still that huge discomfort of Zuko having been a colonizer who also actively hurt the water tribes, despite Zuko's incredible arc and change as a character. Anyway, I liked this review a lot! Love hearing your thoughts on stuff :)

you're right, the waist thing is mildly transphobic, not just to nonbinary people, but transmasculine people, too! it's also just generally weird to think that cis men can't have small waists. het romances usually have some really regressive gender stances, especially when it comes to the binary, and it's something we need to be pointing out more. thank you for doing so!

5:15 That is the exact same problem I have with the narration in The Serpent and the Wings of Night! This was especially confusing in the 1st action scene in the book where the 1st person narrator describes a fight going on somewhere away from her *while she is fighting herself*. It's impossible to fight your opponent while watching another fight going on closely!
