Grandfather’s Clock (on vintage Harmony banjo)

A friend of mine gave me this banjo that she found when cleaning out her Dad’s house. He never played it, so he said she could give it to me. 😊 It was covered in dust, had a tension tuner on the 5th string, and a Mylar head. A local luthier cleaned it up, put a Fiberskyn head on it, along with a geared 5th string tuner. The difference is night and day. It has a decently bright tone for an open ...

A more mellow version than my previous post of this tune. Played without metal fingerpicks. Tuning is: f A# F A# C (Double C tuning, tuned down one whole step.) Sorry for the previously incorrect tuning listed!

This is a somewhat shortened version, because for the life of me I cannot master the left hand fingering on the 1 of the final 3 chords. Also, I couldn’t find a good backing track for it, so I’m playing along with the original recording, so I end it just before the very brief drum solo. This tune wore me out! I’m too old to work this hard! This is in G tuning.
Rolling Mills (Are Burning Down)

Based on Jason Romero’s version (3-finger). Tuning is d B E A B At first I tried to tab out exactly what Jason was playing, and I came pretty close. But the more I practiced it, the more I found myself changing it up a little - mostly to make it easier for me to play. (I certainly couldn’t improve on Jason’s version!) I need to work out some variations to make the song longer without being too ...

Slightly longer version, and hopefully better dynamics than the first draft. 😊

Haven’t posted in a while. Here’s a first draft of Words Unspoken (by Steve Martin & Pete Wernick). I’m still working on it, so I’ll hopefully post a more polished version later.

This is one of my favorite Patty Griffin songs. I wish I could sing it, because the lyrics are amazing, but I don’t have the vocal range for it.

Revenge, family. It will never stop. So,my last act, girls are gone forevever. They will never be found. I,um,nevermind. Not the time. Eyes on everyone. All of you will be safe'even after I'M gone. I just dont know how to say what i need to say. Its in my brain, but my mouth wont back it up. My shame is just to much now. If you ask me questions, i wont lie. Going to be very The only way to get this right, im going to hurt so many, many people, very difficult,. Maybe just wish for strke or hta.
Hey Banjo Granny, this is Banjo Rose, I was just wondering if you change your banjo depending on the type of music that you're playing in.
@@BanjoRose_down-picking Yes, I do! It seems to me that most songs and/or styles sound better on one banjo than on another. The clawhammer style songs sound better on my Pisgah open back banjo, and most of the songs I play with finger picks sound better on my resonator banjo. I keep one banjo strung with heavier gauge strings so I can tune it down a couple of steps, as some songs sound really good in a lower register.
after listening to various takes on this tune, I very much prefer yours...it adds a sweet lilt of emotion noticeably missing otherwise..IMHO...its now the version I choose to play,,,thankyou.
@@dougmiller9567 Thank you! I don’t know why I chose to play it this way, instead of clawhammer style, but I’m glad I did, because thought it really brought out the beauty of the chord progression.
That is so beautiful!
@@BanjoRose_down-picking Thank you!
Just awesome.😊
@@joemcauliffe2360 Thanks!
You play so beautifully. Would you consider recording a version of "Sally in the Garden", please ? 😁
Thank you. I have a version of Sally in the Garden already posted on my channel. 😊
Awesome version of an awesome song. I've never heard this song performed on a banjo before. Bravo.
Thank you!
You make it seem so easy
That’s only because I practiced it SO many times!

Thats a tough one. Great job, great song.
@@michaelpowers4882 Thank you! I’ve heard that it’s much harder to play on guitar than on banjo.

Is that mixed lead?
@@scottperry2160 I’m not sure what mixed lead is, but this is entirely clawhammer style, with a lot of drop thumb.
@banjogranny9156 sorry I meant to comment on a two finger style tune......but I think you tune may be the prettiest snowdrop I've heard
