Update on 1756 Hardside Duck Boat Blind
I’m probably a bit over halfway done with the entire project, maybe a bit more. Some of the sheeting is going on and doors and compartments are starting to be built. Next update will have measurements and should have the majority of the metal work done.

First peek at my new 1756 duck boat blind build
Переглядів 875Місяць тому
This will be the first video for a boat/blind um building on a 1756 flat bottom hull. The goal will be to bridge the gap between my little 1648 A-frame style blind and my larger 1869 hi-low.
16' Duckboat Blind Redesign
Переглядів 3,1 тис.Рік тому
A couple of years ago we re-did the blind on my 16' boat. The low-profile blind was slick but just wasn't very practical for a lot of uses so we built more of an A-frame/panel blind style blind on it.

Cool design for sure
Thanks, can’t wait to get it done and show it all
Nice work Phil! One thing you could do on the entrance area is add floor drains with bilge hose directing the water underneath the subfloor. This could help keep the water out of the blind area entirely.
@@crexhuntclub I thought about that but that would be a huge undertaking I’m afraid and I’d also be nervous they would get caught up with too much sand. I’m going to keep it so that the water stays down the middle so it’s basically just what’re our boots would be anyways, away from where I would store gear or equipment
@@PhilKahnkeWaterfowl Good point. Another way you could do it is have the drain come to bilge hose at a right angle under the steering area and then have the bilge hose run along the floor on the starboard side securing it with pipe strap clamps and having the hose end up in the bilge area. You could then run water through it once a season or offseason to clean it out and wouldn't have to worry about sand build up underneath the floor. You might be right though. The juice might not be worth the squeeze. Looking forward to the rest of the build!
What brand is the boat?
What brand is the boat?
@@LaneAlbertsen either Weldbilt or Alweld, can’t remember offhand
10-4 I would like to try can build your same setup is why I ask. Thanks
And*
Great work! Excited to see it with some bush. Are you gonna add a jackplate as well?
I am, I have one now…hopefully putting it and the motor on in the next week or two.
Pretty sweet looking setup Phil! Excited to see it come together.
Sweet! Gonna be a wicked rig when it’s done Phil. Love me a boat project!
@@Nickkrete1 thanks dude. I’m ready to be done already 😂
Excited to see how this ends up, I really enjoyed watching your older blind build videos. I'm curious what the measurements you went with for back, front, and bench heights as you mentioned you lowered them? Also tube bends look great, definitely sleeker.
@@Jeands-f6m thanks! When I make my next videos I’ll have those measurements handy and relay them.
How did you bend your aluminum tubing or did you pay to have that tubing bent? You using just 1" tube .125 wall?
@@tonykeyte9378 I took it to a guy in Sioux Falls that has an actual tubing bender. On a boat I made a few years ago I used a homemade bender but I don’t have access to that anymore and I wanted this to be as strong as possible, especially since it’s 1” and only 1/16. I’m trying to save weight so I stayed with that size, which is what all my other boats are. Makes welding a son of a gun.
I followed you on your other boat. You’re a master Sir. Enjoyed!
@@shanewaldrop1625 thanks, I love the designing and thinking about it parts but definitely get sick of the rest!
I have a tracker v17 I want to do something like this to. Any suggestions?
Nice work Phil! Where did you pick up and what are the brackets for the rotational pvc pieces?
They are just a half circular mount for keeping piping along a wall or something like that.
Good looking blind, Phil. I hunt out of a 16' with an A-frame blind also. I'll be stealing the flip up PVC grass idea, that's brilliant. Couple of questions: 1)What material do you use for the panels? I have 1000D Cordura stretched tight but would prefer a hard material. 2)How do you cover the outboard when hunting? Love your photos and am always impressed with your boat blind and hides. Thanks for taking the time to post.
Thanks! I used .032 aluminum, for where we hunt and how we want to hide there's so many advantages to having the aluminum and it's not hard to work with once you have the frame built My motor sits up in the boat enough that a lot of days we don't even put the little motor cover I have on it...we just forget. But generally we try to...and it's just a cordura cover with a bunge sewn into the bottom and I ziptied some raffia to it, works well.
.032 aluminum, roger. Appreciate that! I'll source some and rivet it in place before next year. The blind is due for an overhaul. @@PhilKahnkeWaterfowl
Looks great! Nice blind build
Nice setup brotha, keep knockin em down!
Thanks, it's a slick little setup for sure!
Nice work! I like how you did the Blind grass on the PVC. I have removable covers on my blind and they can be a pain to deal with. Might be changing it up for next year!
Yeah it works very well. Shawn Stahl did it on his boat and it seemed to work well so I tried it.
I know this is old video how did you like hunting from that blind
What a cool boat!!
What are your thoughts on making the sides angled in and equal in height similar to the shape of a beavertail flip-over design? I like the idea of being able to see 360 degrees. Do you mainly have taller on one side for comfort and to get protection from the weather?
hey i’ve been following this series, i could find when you mentioned what material you use fore panels, trying to find a thick cheap rubber
This is a very nice setup. Great job
Dang thats a sweet build!! Nice work
Phil, Phil, Phil….. Dude we need videos of you hunting out of that. I know this is an old video but man that’s quality engineering
Agreed! Cool stuff!
This is one of the best podcasts I have ever heard. Some of the things mentioned resonated so much with me. I noticed that I was beginning to get 'jaded' or 'burned out' like mentioned... This podcast shed some new light on my perspective and rather than continue to go down the current path, I chose to take the outlook you guys do. I will appreciate the time with my friends more. Let them shoot more. Make sure everyone is comfortable... I just want to bring back that old tradition. I want others to remember me as the guy who would do anything for anyone in a duck blind.
Thanks man, much appreciated!
Amazing
have you ever weighed a full blind set up....or calculated what you are adding to the boat? Just curious.
That’s cool and all hunting big water but no way I’d get that boat in anywhere I hunt gotta ride the job boat though 4ft water 90% of the way and wade the rest through the swamp
Fuck yea!!!
How thick of tubing did you use?
North Louisiana has a good amount of flooded timber as well
Very true!
Phil, what type of welder are you using? Thanks, Thom
In his other videos, he mentions he runs a Lincoln 210 with a spool gun. I use a spool gun also and it works quite well.
Cool video man! How wide is your boat? I’m 6’2 thinking of doing something like this but I’ll need a super wide boat
If anyone is looking for another design plan, I have shown how I build a hardside blind on my boat as well. Best way to hunt is from a hardside boat blind.
Do you use a spool gun or what?
Andrew Hargis yeah he mentioned that he uses a spool gun in one of his other videos
when its more than you and your dog.. where do guys sit? That would be the only concern. wow.. that is a great job though. I created a spring panel that flips which took some time to think about.. now I might be back at it with something like this.
What is it like shooting out of this blind? Is it easy to see over the sides even down to the water? I really like this blind and want to build something very similar Also does the boat float well with both hunters sitting back on the one side?
Is the 60 wide the top of the boat or bottom?
Where’s the ramp for the retriever?
What kind of boat is this and what size? Looks HUGE
Do you have any problem losing fast grass or blind material when pulling behind truck?
I wish I would have seen this video sooner. Great build. I have a 1860, and this would be perfect. My son has a 14 footer, sending him a link to this now. Ideal for 2 people, gear, dekes and dog.
Awesome
Nice set up, looks heavy on the boat for example how many men, dog, guns and gears.
Any photos with blind grassed. Also curious how well grass held up in the driver area - looks like it would take a beating folding in
Phil, I love your boat. I want to build a very similar one. Also, cute bike! Does your lab fit in the basket?
Oh boy, nice catch on the bike man. I should’ve hid that sucker before I made the video. The GF’s mom brought it with one time and it has taken up room in the garage ever since. I don’t think Echo would squeeze o to that basket too well though.
