    Some of you in the comments, as well as Shelby, cannot be using real henna if you are complaining of wax/waxy feel, and saying it coats the outside of the hair. Real henna (Lawsonia or Mehendi) bonds inside the shaft, and I have been using it for 10 years and never, EVER had any waxiness. I use pure Indian henna, such as a Rajisthani type or even NuPure, which is easily available, plus other brands, but always the powdered plant which has to be soaked for 3 - 5 hours, applied as a workable paste, and left on for 3 to 4 hours before rinsing out all the plant material. If you are not doing that process, you are not using real henna! I am only interested in removing it because I want to see where I'm at with gray & white because my graying process was very patchy and uneven, last time I saw it. If it is more even now, I want to grow out the henna without chopping off too much of my long length. If I could fade the henna out a lot, that would be very helpful, since my hair grows more slowly now.

    • @kellylynnbrowne947

      I have the same exact experience, a henna user for many years. It was patchy grey before I started, so I want to go full grey in the front now. Hoping to get the years of henna out and start embracing my grey. I am also tired of trying to keep up with my fast growing roots and want to make things easier for me, even though I only henna once a month. I just don't want to see my Grey roots next to the henna and don't want others to see it as well , so I'm ready to transition to salt and pepper Grey for the convenience and so I don't have to be thinking about others seeing the line of demarcation of color that looks, eh , 😂 I'm getting old but still don't want to cut my length.

    Honestly, henna is only for people who do not want to use chemical dyes. It is a time commitment and process, and I recommend never mixing henna with conditioner. I had been fine with henna for years but the one time I mixed it with a conditioner it had a weird reaction that caused tangles in my hair. So if you want to do henna I suggest mixing it with simplistic ingredients, and only doing it every couple of months.

      You’re welcome! I feel like bloggers hype up henna soooo much like it’s a savior for damaged hair when it’s really not. Why wouldn’t hairstylists use it instead of dyes??? Why would hairstylists frown upon using henna if it was such a great thing for hair? Its close to impossible to remove. I really hope you can get it removed and get back to your healthy hair. 💕

    • @emmathompson1943

      Pure henna never frys the hair, (100% pure lawsonia inermis) so the henna you used must've had some other ingredients in it. Hairdressers don't like henna because it is hard to remove and doesn't have the same result as chemically processed or virgin hair, this makes results unpredictable. Hairdressers also don't know what henna was used and know that if you don't use pure henna, or henna with metallic salts in it, the results can be horrific.

    Thank you so much for this, did you use any indigo? The henna I used (regretfully) lol is The Henna Guys Medium Brown, and then the last henna treatment I used was the red orange so I know I have that indigo in there still from the medium brown I did prior to the red orange ... I have already done the Color Oops which had lightened it quite a bit but mostly just my grow out lol the rest is light red... I'm considering bleaching just that part to match the lightness of the regrowth but I'm so scared it's going to turn green lol. Did you have just the red henna in your hair or did you darken it at some point with some indigo as well? Don't worry, I know not to expect the same results lol. I SO REGRET putting henna in my hair, I did it for the same reasons as you and boy I wish I saw this video beforehand. 😩

    I had waist length beautiful dark brown hair and I let my sister bleach my hair blonde. My hair was absolutely fried like hay / straw and I had to cut all my hair off to my shoulders. Henna LITERALLY saved my hair. Within 9 months my shoulder length hair had grown almost to the middle of my back because henna promotes hair growth and healthy scalp. Henna is definitely a lifesaver for all types of hair. I’ve been using Light Mountain Organic Henna for 4 years now and my hair has never been this healthy and shiny since I was a newborn baby. Henna definitely isn’t for anyone who likes to change up their hair color often.

    • @shelbytrue4660
      @shelbytrue4660 2 роки тому

      You’re definitely correct. Adding henna to the hair gives it a protective layer because it covers the hair shaft. I can see how it would help in your situation. However, once you stop using it, your hair will go back to your normal texture. It’s a very high maintenance and lengthy process that I wasn’t willing to maintain for longer than 6 months.

      I've heard this from others, but I had the opposite experience. I tried henna multiple times and experimented with different brands, but now after a year I was done trying. I never had any issues with commercial chemical dyes, but henna ended up causing my hair to thin out and become brittle. My dandruff was also never as bad as it was when I was using henna. I wanted to love it. I wanted it to do wonders for my hair. But it just didn't. Maybe it's only effective with certain hair types, or maybe my hair's just weird.

      Damn, I wish it was the same for me. Must be my hair type. It breaks so easily! Even with henna. I don't use bleach or heat tools, I use a tangle teaser, heavily moisturise...take lots of hair vitamins. It looks thick and coarse, but it's so fragile.

    I have to respectfully disagree as your hair was not all virgin before it was dyed as I noticed your henna grown out hair is thicker and healthier looking that what got bleached .. . I have 2b-c wavy hair and it goes limpish when I use henna , I also mix my henna with a bit of olive oil and my hair is silky and soft after using henna and its feels healthier. I've also dyed my hair with henna for 6 years now and usually just let it fade out but found your video helpful as this is the first time I've wanted to strip it out. . I use citric acid for canning , I will have to try it. thank you for this video, sorry the bleach killed your hair 😔

      I would either let it grow out (I know it takes awhile) or strip it like I did in this video. Go to a professional when you want to color it again and maybe look for someone who’s confident in coloring over henna. You might need a few Malibu treatments. If you’re going blonde, it’s going to be a multiple step process that I suggest you wait months in between steps to lighten it. Best of luck!

    This is such a great video! You did a great job answering a lot of the questions I had! Which lashes do you like best - shorties or wink or sweetheart? Also, I’ll look on your channel because maybe you did a video - but I’m curious about the maintenance and sleeping, etc. If you wash your face and eye area with your normal cleanser wouldn’t that release the glue? Thanks so much! Cathy

    • @shelbytrue4660
      @shelbytrue4660 2 роки тому

      Sorry I’m just now replying! I didn’t see your comment. First, thank you so much for the compliment! Next, my favorite lash style is the Sweethearts. They are just enough for me to look great but not too overdone especially since I normally don’t wear a lot of makeup. The Shorties would be good for someone with small or hooded eyes who also doesn’t wear a lot of makeup. I like the winks but they are heavy and give me a headache sometimes. As far as maintenance goes, I do wash my face but I don’t get my lashes wet. If I wear eyeshadow, I use a cotton round and micellar water. I use a little micellar water on a mascara brush to clean the lashes. Finally, I sleep on my stomach, so I’m rough on the lashes and they don’t move. If they look a little smashed I just use a mascara brush to fluff them back up. I hope this answers your questions! Have a Merry Christmas!

    Honestly, I’ve done henna three times now to cover grey. The way you explained how henna covers the hair shaft almost like wax makes sense. Yes, my hair is shiny but I hate the way henna makes my hair feel. It feels like it’s coated with something. This lessens with multiple washes over time as the henna fades but then I have to do it again as the roots come in and henna doesn’t look nice on the ends faded ☹️ it’s a constant battle. I might just let it grow out lol and then use highlights in my natural hair once it grows out in a few years. We’ll see. Thank you for this!

But I’ve been dying my hair for so many years and I recently found “silver sisters” and they are women who let their hair grow out without dying it- that’s my next step and also why I’m looking for how to remove the henna now.

    Henna didn’t damage your hair but the chemicals you put over henna. I was bleached blonde and and my hair was so so damaged I could not look at it . This January I decided to start henna and was also doing hair mask 2-3 times a week basically before every wash . And let me tell you the henna and all other herbs i used during this 6 months transformed my hair 100% to a healthy hair . Henna Will not dry out your hiar if you are using conditioner after and keep it at least20mim .I’ve also had hair cut every month that helped too.✌️

      I’m glad henna helped your hair. I didn’t say that henna damaged my hair, I said that it did not heal or help my hair. My hair was damaged from bleaching and neither henna nor anything else, aside from growing it out and cutting off the damage, will correct the damage. Henna covers the hair shaft and therefore creates an illusion of healthier hair. As I said in the video, if you don’t want your hair to be red forever, then henna is not the best option because it is a pain in the butt to use regular dye over henna. That’s the point of this video.

    I used henna and continued to use it because it lasts so long. My hair is so soft and does feel much healthier from when I used to use box dyes. I want to go blonde now, but only cause I feel like switching it up (I still absolutely loved the henna). However, you need to use 100% natural henna. DO NOT USE ANY THAT CONTAIN METALLIC SALTS. The metallic salts is reacts with certain chemicals, resulting in your hair basically burning off. I’m going to an actual hairdresser because lightening myself seems too tedious. She herself told me it’s not a problem and we are just doing a strand test first to be sure. Henna was amazing for me. Just make sure you do your own research first because it is definitely a bigger commitment than box dyes.

    I really appreciate you taking the time to make a video and share your experience. Your experience with henna is completely valid, and I’m really sorry you went through this. Your hair and you do look absolutely beautiful at all stages. For anyone wanting to use henna, please keep in mind that this is NOT everybody’s experience... I would even say this isn’t what the MAJORITY experience. Henna is an ancient herb used for thousands of years to make and keep hair healthy, strong and long. If 100% pure henna is used and applied correctly, that will be the effect you get. It will not damage your hair, as it cannot penetrate the cuticle, and only creates a coating around it. That is how it protects your hair from stressors. Like it was mentioned in the video, henna is a LONG TERM choice you make - until the hair grows out! Henna repaired my SEVERELY fried hair and got it long, shiny, thick and strong, and I am just one of countless success stories. However, it needs to be selected and applied with care, so if you aren’t sure what to do.. consult somebody who has real experience with this. Perhaps somebody who has experience using real Indian henna in the traditional way. Think of henna like medicine .. you wouldn’t consult UA-cam to heal you from a disease .. so keep in mind that UA-cam videos will not always have the most accurate information when working with tricky substances. There’s a reason why there are professionals for everything, and any Indian salon will be able to guide you should you decide to use henna for long term hair benefits.

    • @shelbytrue4660
      @shelbytrue4660 3 роки тому

      Thanks for watching and for sharing your experience. I totally agree that henna is a long term decision and that’s why I wanted to share my experience because I should have known that I wouldn’t want my hair to be dark for very long. As I explained in the video, I used the pure Indian henna, indigo, and amla powder but I have also used Lush henna years ago. Everyone’s hair is sooo different. Mine has been bleached for years and henna did make it shiny and appear thicker but it was not more manageable or softer nor stronger. It’s a huge commitment and super messy and time consuming. That’s what I want to convey in this video. It didn’t ruin my hair.

      @@shelbytrue4660 you know I really feel like they need to put more information on henna packages for this reason... such as what type of hair won’t have good results. Not sure where you are in your hair journey now, and you might’ve tried this already but when I want my hair to be really nice and change the colour or tint, but don’t want to commit, I usually do a Demi-permanent gloss treatment. It washes out within 25 washes, if you want it to last even less, apply it as a semi permanent for only half the longevity. I’m about to jump in the bathroom to remove my 2 month old gloss with the vitamin c mask, and I’ll be good to re-dye it later today.😍

Henna made it thicker, shinier, sgraightened it and I have never had such a beautiful hair I get compliments all the time. Never apply any chemicals on henna, it goes in chemical reaction with it making hair burn from the inside. I've just recently done that mistake and applied henna on my hair for the first time ever and holy shit I hate it. What's been working for me is firstly straighten the hair to open the cuticles. Spray hair thoroughly 1 measure of coca cola mixed with 4 measures of water and then apply coconut oil. As you apply the oil backcomb the hair so that the oil gets inside the hair. Put cling film all over hair and put a towel on it. Keep as long as you can (you can sleep in it). After that time I wash hair with head&shoulders interchangeably with a purifying citrus shampoo, as many times as required to get rid of the oil. Then I apply a henna mask Natural Classic Henna Hair Treatment Conditioner (it's great for hair growth and doesn't dye hair). I have done it twice and there was a lot of orange water going. The color is muuuuch less offensive. This should be done around 2/3 times a week until desired result. You're welcome
