In today's video we visit the bikeshop to get the bike overhauled in time for spring! While we do so, we replace my big slow tyres with some lighter trail tyres, and then we go out and compare the times before and after on a test-loop! I also lowered the suspension from 150 to 140 mm which might just have made the bike handle better! Söderåsen MTB & Sports bikes: soderasenmtb.se/ You can suppor...

With that in mind I went out there to try.. And this video was supposed to be about setting a goal, fighting to overcome it and standing victorious on top of the hill. Well.. Thanks for the comparison! I think going larger can be faster if the weights are close, but when you're having to accelerate heavier tires it just takes more energy.
Attention, this adapter is not suitable for Microspline! I was lucky that I had previously ordered the wrong bushing that had the correct adapters on it.
Is it the 350
Hi and thanks for your video that convinced me to invest in this pair of wheels 😊. Being a rather heavy rider, I wonder about the maintenance of the spoke tension of the wheel... do you do this check? If so, how often and do you know the tightening torque for this model. Thank you
Hey ! What differed the most between the videos ? Was it more a matter of skills or bike ?
Despite you are a FAT rider, who killed the frame, thanks for the review. Want to by Cragger 7.0
Hey Mike, I live in Malmö and until your videos I thought that this region just really didn't offer anything for mountainbiking. My mental health is rock bottom at the moment, so I'm thinking of swapping out my current sport of choice for mountain biking again. Thanks very much for your videos, I think I might just go get my self a MTbike!
If your in the area again, il come out on my hard tail.
This can be a stupid question, but will it also work if I have 9x141 QR? In other words, does this patent work for any system or for thru axle only?
Your question kind of doesn’t make sense. 9x141 QR is not a standart mount. I’d say most common are 5x135QR (older bikes/ cheaper bikes), and 12x148 (newer bikes, often a bit more expensive). As I said your 9x141QR isn’t nowhere near standard dimensions, I don’t think you’re going to find fitting endcaps. The endcaps in the video turn a 12x148 TA into a 5x141 QR for example, or a 12x142 TA into a 5x135 QR. The endcaps basically are narrower at the end so that a 5mm QR can fit through both ends, and the weight is being held by the endcaps and not the QR axle itself. This „patent“ (I think you meant these endcaps?) works for all hubs that support interchangeable endcaps. A few examples would be Hope, and DT Swiss (he mentioned more at the end of the video).
Hmm, are you sure? On quora and in few other places I found information that 5x141 vs 9x141 makes no difference. Some comment were stating that actually that "9" in 9x141 is kinda made up, and all should fit. Currently I have Shimano FH-MT200-B rear hub. What does usually that first digit in hub size represent?
How has the 141 rear axle been holding up? I know it’s not as strong as 148. But on a Hardtail…. I don’t see a judge advantage
After breaking a few wheels, hub, not the axle.. poor quality.. I bought a 148 dtswiss wheel with replaceable endcaps and turned it into a 141QR. Just because I couldn't find any good sturdy wheels in the 141 standard. Also since this was not gonna be my forever-bike I considered that the next frame will probably be a boost 148 anyway.
Long story short; Don't know! 😂
@@Mikesbikerides haha thanks!

Klosterängshöjden just by the E22. You drive up past willys and park in the neighbourhood.
@@MikesbikeridesSorry I never replied but I’ve been going here a lot with my friends and it’s really nice and really got me into mountainbiking, thank you!
I just ordered this groupset for my 26 year old Voodoo D-Jab (correction, I just realised it's 28 years old!! How did I get so old?). It's the bike's fourth. The current 3x9 XT set up has been coaxed and patched up over the past year or so, and after the last ride of slipping , rubbing, and clattering of everything whenever I put the slightest additional pressure on a pedal out in the Sörmland woods, I declared it buggered and bit the bullet. Always a risk getting bits for such an old frame. And the first order of the latest and greatest was cancelled a couple of hours after making it when the evil of Micro Spine hub bodies was discovered, and replaced with a new order of M5100 bits. New bottom bracket too. Should be interesting to see what a 28 year old BB looks like when it comes out. The current cranks do rotate like they're 5 stor stark in. I am really looking forward to binning the front deraileur. I've always hated them, ever since my first racing bike as a kid where you couldn't have big on the front and big on the back, and small of the front and small on the back without everyone hearing you coming from several miles away. Should be a good autumn if it all fits.
You are doing amazing to talk, film and explain while also doing the climbs and tricks. Will be trying this one this season. Järavallen is my home track. I would like to get into downhill but I need to learn to drop and maybe hop before that. Is this track a good one for learning the base skills for downhill?
Thankyou so much! This trail will offer some steep downhills but not very long. But you will at least get to use your brakes :) And there are small to medium jumps/drops to practice on. So yeah, good first step but after this I would recommend going to Vallåsen but staying on the greens and blues. But yes, learning to brake well and stay loose on the bike before going is vital to having a good day up there :)
Getting an XT shifter and RD is the best in my opinion.
Thanks for the comparison video. Too bad the weather didn’t cooperate and the first lap was a bit wetter. Either way, the new setup must be faster to some extent. I’m running dual Forekasters, the new ones, and I like the grip on the rear in tech climbs but I do think a Rekon 2.4 would roll a bit faster.
Mike!

Nej, kommunal mark. Men bron kostar 750kr per håll!!! Om man inte har bropass

The simple purchase of a new "X" cassette would be a lot cheaper than a new full groups. But then, that would be hard subject to make a video about.
not really i habe m5100 groupset and 3rd gear is rubbing can do nothing bout it
hey im planning to buy that derailleur and i want to ask if clutch is stiff and if bike is quiet because i dont like when it rattles on roots and so, how is the clutch?
I've seen stiffer clutches but my bike is silent and no chain slap so I guess it works as it should 😁
@@Mikesbikeridesyeah ofc but its quiet when u go down stairs and etc like on drops

Looks like a nice base trail to work on fitness and skills. Isn't this where you did the digging yourself?
Yeah it takes a good few tries before you can tick off every feature! Surely has made me a better rider. And yes, just opted not to show that part 😏
dig this chill ridealong stuff 👍
I'm glad you like it! 😄
been there a couple of times but its not for me. The parts in the deeper woods are more fun. But it sure have some steep parts :D
Gotta like pedaling for this one huh😀
What are your thoughts about this trail? Share them here!
Rainbow trail is pretty fun for me but climb is so steep 😩
@@Vassy_mtbI hear that! But they're fun challenges.
Did you have any issues fitting the wheel to the bike? Particularly with the alignment of the disc with calipets? Or chain line? Cheers
Nope, nothing changes compared to using a 141 wheel 😄
head tube angle is the thing that one should check before buying a certain geometry. XC are closer to 70 - 71, and trail are best at 68-69 or even less. people should be aware how much of a difference the head tube angle actually does. depending on your style of riding and area (mountain or more flat vs trails and downhill).
Very true! My current bike sits at a nice 65 degrees and is so much more stabile at high speeds! But it's the over all geo that makes it really great. However the Headtube angle does give you a good hint if the bike is right for you to start with.
Muchas gracias por el trabajo. Pondré el M4100 en mi bici de 3x8 para convertirla en 1x10.
That's a good upgrade! Go for it 😁
@@Mikesbikerides Thanks you.
cheers. this is one of my all time favorite songs.
Mine too, amongst many, but yes 😄
i do not dare without clip in shoes
I like to be clipped in, but would probably be a bit safer with flats if I needed to bail
hope you had a good time in our flat little country. rude is my favorite trail here on zealand
Sure did! 🥳 wish we had a place to build jumps like that over here..
went from 27.5+ to 2.4 its so much faster. I wasn't ready for the bottom bracket to drop so much I was pedal striking all over the place, combined with going alot faster I went otb twice very lucky I didn't get hurt😆🤦♂
Haha yeah that's how it goes 😄 probably made the bike corner a bit better too!
Id love to do something like this :) So cool, relaxed, u can push yourself as much as you want/can :)
Yeah these un-official races are alot of fun! I bet you could find something similar in your area
I'm convinced that if you can find a set of tires that fit your riding style, whether fast rolling, grippy, mud shedding, rock gripping... whatever you ride it's the best investment as an upgrade. As I type this I hear him say slippery. I'm saying if you find the right tires for the condition, it is an upgrade that will elevate your riding to the next level. I've tried all the name brands but I decided to try a NEW Continental tire, and it did everything I needed it to do. Everything that was sketchy from the previous 10 years went away.
Yeah I bet you're 100% correct! Happy that you found your perfect tyre 😄
I went through all sorts of Maxxis combos. From Ikons to Minions.. I love Dissector front, Rekon back - both in 2.4. They provide best of both worlds and bike still looks somewhat tough 😁
Yeah I like my rekon grip wise.. it was just a bit big 😄
@@Mikesbikeridesany progress with the manual?
Heh, maybe a little. Don't get that much riding in ☹️
@@Mikesbikeridesall you need is 15-20min every other day in a parking lot. Come on man

Nice! Did you weigh the bike before and after (-Or calculate the weight difference)?
Never got a chance to wheigh it, sadly! I think the difference can only be a couple 100 grams but the bike does feel a bit more lively👍🏻
@@Mikesbikerides If your fork got shorter and you run smaller tires, Your headangle will have become a bit steeper. maybe that accounts for the liveliness?
@@petervonlCould be! Over all good changes ✌🏼
@@Mikesbikerides Sounds good. Can’t wait for the story from Rude, here in Denmark ;-)
@@petervonldidn't film in rude, that was a trip just to enjoy biking😏
Nice. Lighter wheels and tires is a big change. Im using Rekon i front and Rekon race in the back, the terrain is much like yours. Im in Halmstad. I got another wheelset when i want more grip with Assegai in the front and High Roller II in the back. Rarely not using those wheels at all... Its more fun with slightly faster rolling tires. Great video. Keep up the good work
Oh for sure! I noticed that very clearly. I would agree with you, faster tyres are more fun and usually they grip just fine in most scenarios
Hey man thanks for the review, i currently run a 3 by with in the back the cs-hg 200 9s from shimano can i just install it on the same body next to my wheel hub or do i need a new one and which tools (bikespecific) to use (i've got most normal tools)
No problems, happy to help 😌 Shimano has two systems: 7-11 gears is "shimano hg" and 12 is Microspline. That tells us that your body is HG. All cassettes that is called hg can be mounted straight onto the same body. The gears are thinner, that's why they still fit. You will of course need a narrow-wide chainring up front when you remove the 3by. Otherwise just standard casette tool, chain whip, and crankpuller should do the job 👍🏻
@@Mikesbikerides thanks
@@Mikesbikerides but this cassette also fits on it ?
Are you still working on the manual? Just curious 🙂
Not getting many rides in these days, mostly gravel-commuting😑 So the mannys haven't gotten the attention they need!
Hey i own a cragger too and i'm thinking of upgrading my wheel as well. Does yours have a 15mm axle as well / did you need an adapter or new axle? The old wheel spec has a 15mm axle but the dt swiss and pretty much anything else i can find is 12mm. Maybe it does not matter?
Great bike! 🤛🏻 I'm pretty (100%) sure that all rear wheels are 12mm and front wheels often are 15. I am very sure that the cragger uses the standard 12x148 boost axle. So any wheel with that measurement should fit!
Jepp i höstas.
