Thunderbolt The Willys Jeep Podcast Studio Ep1
Переглядів 3811 місяців тому
This will be an "in studio" style podcast to talk about my Willys Jeep build and whatever other topics happen to come up, or get requested. This format is another new adventure for me. I'm used to doing my videos on on the trail, at camp, or in the shop working on the Jeeps. This should be another fun format. Let me know what you think in the comments.

Eating elephants Pete.
One bite at a time.
Sometimes I drill out a cotter pin, it’s nice and soft won’t snap the bit.
That's a good tip! Thanks for watching.
We’re still here Pete. Looking forward to the next one.
Thanks Bill. Hope to get the tools dirty and make some progress in the next week. Excited to be getting back at it. Thanks for watching!
Battling my favorite 50 year old Jacobsen snowblower that relies on Woodruff key as split differential on drive wheels (think lockers). Little did I know until today, keys are supposed to be tight fit. Tap in. Driveway is littered with Woodruff keys. 😂😂
Yikes! They just don't build them like they used to! Thanks for watching!
Excelente explicación y muy fácil de instalar.
Muchas gracias. Agradezco tu comentario. ¡Gracias por mirar!
Why is the thermostat up in the housing and not in the head ? It just seems to me that it would open sooner in the head , any opinions
Unfortunately, I do not have an answer to that. That's the way it was when I got it and the way the manual I have shows it to be installed. Thanks for watching!
Excellent content! Keep up the good work 👍
Thank you, I appreciate that. And thanks for watching!
Nice video 👍
Thank you, I appreciate that. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the shoutout Pete. Yup...growing a UA-cam channel is a definite task and takes commitment! "Rust" is growing about two times faster than "SixRounds" for the same time since new. Having been making videos for so many years over on SixRounds, I can apply all the lessons learned from that first channel, and see the results of faster growth here on Rust. Your stuff is good Pete....and your on-camera presence relaxed and easy going. If you are ever interested in talking Jeeps or UA-cam I would be happy to.
Thank you for the compliments. I really appreciate it. It can really be hard to judge what people want or like from the videos. I just try to be me. What you see is what you get. It is fun to do the videos. I'm really looking forward to doing videos outside the shop once the Willys is drivable. Maybe the channel will pick up more when I am able to post trail rides or even just a ride into town. As you know, you just hope people like what you're putting out there. I do appreciate your encouragement and advice. Thanks for that. And thanks for watching!
Leo needs to arrested for assault!!!
Right! He's such a little demon kitty! Hope you're doing well. Thanks for watching!
WOOHOO!!!
Woooo!!! Yeah!! Thanks for watching, friends!
whoot whoot! Oh...and cats rule....
whoot whoot indeed! Thanks for watching, Bill!
Both are A-10 names. Had a 1947 CJ-2A with the original engine and a plow that used a vacuum bottle driven off the manifold to lift the plow up. crude but it worked
You are correct. A10 is my favorite plane. There was enough vacuum to lift a plow blade?! That is interesting. Thanks for watching! Keep an eye out for the next video!
@@ThunderboltTheWillysJeep Yes there was, the bottle as about 12” in diameter and 20” long. Love the A10 as well, excellent ground attack plane.
@rchuyck That's pretty cool. I've just not seen a vacuum plow set up. Pretty interesting.
Sounds like your timing is off. There is an easy to follow guide out there that helped me figure it out before...just search for L134-simple-timing. It is a 4-page pdf but it will get you up and running. Good luck!
Man!! Almost!!
Definitely looks like an ignition timing issue or maybe a firing order issue. Are you able to verify all the usual TDC stuff with the timing mark on the flywheel? And from there the firing order? I struggled with this part and had my timing way off.
We weren't able to get out there this week, but we're going to start by rechecking timing and firing order when we get back out there. Thanks for the tip and thanks for watching.
Almost there man!! J & C
Getting SO close!
It could very well be the transmission binding it up. Could try using the clutch to disengage the transmission so it's not a factor. As a side note on your oil filter canister, you appear to have the Purolator "two band" style. I have the same one, though I only found out after I put Fram stickers on it.
I'm not sure if the the transmission was bound up, or the engine stuck from sitting so long after the rebuild. But after fiddling with the tranny and having oil on the pistons, we were able to free it up and try again the next night. Keep an eye out for the next video! Oh, and thanks for the info on the oil filter housing lid. Thanks for watching!
One day...one solution at a time
Thanks Bill. While it's disappointing that it didn't start up, I'm not too upset. I know we'll get it figured out. It's a process. Thanks for watching.
You're heading in the direction man!! J & C
Man, that's all familiar. I had a similar fire hazard harness. Rebuilt the whole harness from scratch, one wire at a time. It's interesting to see that momentary start button. I had a similar button on my dash but had no idea what it was for. I assumed another horn button since mine came with the original plus an aftermarket one. Momentary start button makes much more sense.
I am re-wiring the whole thing one wire at a time as well. I do like my dash mounted push to start button. I'm getting so close to first start up. I'm getting pretty excited. :) Thanks for watching.
I stuck
Well, I hope you got unstuck, Bill. :) Thanks for watching.
Always connect the neutral first and then the hot when jumping a battery. Just saying.
Thanks for the reminder! Totally forgot that. Thanks for watching.
I don't think you have the right spring. I seem to recall my accelerator return spring being shorter than that. That one looks more like a clutch or brake return spring.
Thanks. I did find out that I have the wrong tab also. That tab went to the ebrake spring. I need to get the right tab and spring. Thanks for watching!
Whoa!! Goin LIVE!! Nice man!! J & C
That was pretty fun! I like the idea of doing podcasts, just nervous about it. LOL. Definitely want to do more now! I still want to get you on my Passenger Seat podcast. DM me to schedule that. Thanks for watching!
I'd put on a double barrel!! LOL J & C
Double barrel? like a shotgun?! LOL. Just kidding. Thanks for watching!
Good to see that old thing still doing useful work.
Plowing is its main purpose right now as I work on the'48 2A. Someday, I'd like to make it my next project. I like the v6 Dauntless. Thanks for watching!
I did the same DIY wiring job on mine, probably the same Amazon kits. Those heat shrink splices are great, marine grade too. Shouldn't give you any issues.
That's what I was hoping. Thanks. What did you use for a wiring diagram? Thanks for watching!
basic simple old school love it
Thank you sir. It sure is fun. Thanks for watching.
I totally understand. I just brought my Dana 41 project axle inside by the fireplace because it's 9 degrees outside in the garage. No way my little electric space heater could bring it up to freezing.
I am not a fan of winter. I'd really like to be out in the shop tonight getting something done. Ugh! LOL. Thanks for watching!
I don''t blame you one bit for not wanting to be outside especially when it's WAY too cold out. You take care and stay warm.
I'm glad it's not supposed to stay this cold too long. I should be back out there next week working on the Willys. More parts will be delivered Friday, so there will be more videos soon! Thanks for watching!
Furst 👊🏻💪🏻🥶🥶🥶
Good times! Thanks for watching!
Cleans up nice man!! J & C
Another little step. Thanks for watching!
Looking forward to more Jeep videos- keeps me motivated to finish my ‘46 Willys!
Every little step is progress! You've got this. Thanks for watching. I'll try to keep the videos coming.
No one is the passenger seat man!! Yes do more!! Just as long as it's not all that jeep stuff!! LOL
I really want to do more. It's so much fun! We should schedule a day to get you over here for an episode. Thanks for watching!
It's coming along man!! J & C
Right on! Thanks for watching!
Dang F heads......
LOL. It's all good. I'm just glad somebody identified the problem so I can get it sorted out. Thanks for watching!
Lookin good man!! J & C
Thank you. I'm starting to think it's actually going to be running in the next few months.
Pre heat before you start timer. I also bag the parts in the solution and drop it in the tank which is just water or sometimes simple green is added.
Thank you for the tips. I appreciate it. So you put the parts in a (plastic?) bag instead of just loose in the basket? Is that to keep the machine cleaner? I've never used one of these before, but I am impressed by it. Thanks for watching!
Full video?

Silly question = does your jeep ever leak on the passenger side during a decent rain?
@JustMe-uk9fb I don't know, I've never had it in the rain. And I don't have a top. So I guess the whole thing would leak. 🤣 Seriously though, most of the time I've owned it, it's been torn down in my shop.

Good vid!
Thank you. I appreciate that. Thanks for watching.
Shiner!
Coming together man!! J & C
It is! I'm pretty excited to be making progress lately. After the holidays, I'm going be ordering parts. Should really pick up then. Thanks for watching!
Looking good Pete, love the music too!
Thank you. I appreciate it. Thanks for watching!
Good job Pete.
Thank you, I appreciate that. And thanks for watching!
Since you had the engine out why didn't you clean up the engine bay and front half frame with a lick of paint?
Hmm, good question. We'll chalk that up to lack of focus and/or total rookie mistake. I've been so focused on getting the drive train back in, I totally overlooked that. Damn, now you've got me thinking I may have to pull that motor back out. Thanks for watching and commenting. I appreciate it.
Cool!! J & C
Getting there little by little. Thanks for watching!
A little goocky in there! J & C
Yeah, it was pretty nasty. LOL
Solid and trusty man!! J & C
"Ish" LOL. Thanks for watching!
