DIY Demo: Glass terrarium door lock V2
This is the second version of a lock I designed as an upgrade for the stock Reptile One RTF glass terrarium locks. The stock standard lock required a key to operate, which was cumbersome to use. My first version served me well but there were some design flaws that needed to be rectified. The newer version features a compliant bi-stable mechanism that easily toggles between locked and unlocked, and has a substrate ejection window that prevents sand and substrate from jamming up the lock. With these new upgrades in place, the latest designs (Snap-Lock and Auto-Lock) is now available for purchase

DIY Demo: Heated Lizard Lay Box V2
Переглядів 54711 місяців тому
A design update for my heated nest boxes used for dwarf monitor lizards. The new and improved design has all electronics and controls within a plastic casing that is mounted on the side of each nest box. The power supply cable can now be unplugged from the nest boxes meaning that these nest boxes are no longer permanently attached to my enclosures and can be taken out as required.
Arboreal elevated water/ food dish

After being fed up with water and food dish being contaminated with substrate and faeces, I’ve designed and 3d printed some arboreal cup holders to elevate the dishes off the ground. It works well for all arboreal/ semi-arboreal species. I took ABS plastic- a water and disinfectant resistant , strong and durable material, and turned it into a low profile, minimalistic cup holder with the hardwa...

Bigger and better version of the monitor/ dragon hatchling rack I built close to 2 years ago. It has the same features as the V1 with some tweaks and upgrades. Overall a nicer appearance and sturdier strtucture. The design is modular, the height of each level can be adjusted to suit taller/ shorter tubs if required in the future .
Making flash diffusers for reptile photography

The use of flash is important in shooting reptiles, but the standard flash lights are not great sources of light for illuminating reptiles. This video shows how I made flash diffusers and I’ve included some pictures I took with these diffusers.

I’ve been thinking of ways to build a reptile incubator that doesn’t look shabby and home-made. This video documents the process of converting an old display fridge into a reptile incubator. All the electrical components and wires are concealed, making it much more professional looking than the other incubators I’ve made in the past.

What’s better? A comparison of two different roach diets
Переглядів 396Рік тому
A good food source is important for a roach colony. The right diet can help improve growth rates, reproduction, and nutritional value of these feeder insects. In order to make a decision on what diet I should be using for my wood roaches, I set up a little experiment to test a new food suggestion against a diet that I’ve been using. My results suggests that low end dry dog food that I have been...

The Complete Guide To Breeding Woodies (speckled lobster Roach)
I know you were selling these a while ago, do you still sell them,? Love the vids btw
@@xozzzxo thank you! Yeah I’m still selling them
@@Varanibae Beast! What's the easiest way to contact you?
@@xozzzxo instagram @varanibae
That was amazing!
@@lkgamer8994 thanks! I’ve also made a more recent video for the updated version
Is 20 cm substrate depth enough for nesting?
Yes it is, my next boxes are around that depth
how can I order some auto lock? Do you deliver to USA?
I can ship to the US but unsure how much it’ll cost. Do you have instagram? You can message me there to order
@@Varanibae how much is each lock?
@@vnrodor6431 $10AUD
such a good idea man!! definitely grabbing a couple👌🏼
Thanks mate!
Awesome! Repti-zoo are my favorite enclosures overall, but I hate the locking mechanisms for all the same reasons.
I’d be interested to know if these locks would work on other brands like repti-zoo and Habistat. The terrariums look similar in design
Are you still able to make this and ship out?
Sorry, not taking any custom orders at this stage
Hi I love your video, I recently set up a woodroach colony, but after two weeks, I notice some dead woodies in the bottom of the container, is that normal or there's something wrong? mine is 120L container, have heat mat, dry and carrot, I bought nearly 1000 mixed size of woodies as starter as I wanna feed my reptile earlier.
@@yumingjiang3861 The set up and feeding sounds good. Having dead ones down the bottom of the container is normal. I’d try not to feed the reptiles from the breeding colony for as long as possible
Could i ask how big are your adults and heavy , thanks
@@AlanSeman they’re about 50cm in length and weighing 200-250g
best video about keeping and breeding woodies
Thank you!
when its night time and its really cold do you just leave your lace monitors be and let them find where the heat or do you put them in the nhide or leave the basking lights on?
I try to replicate what would happen in nature as much as possible. I don’t use basking lights at night as that will mess with photoperiod and it’s not a natural type of night time heat source anyway. Putting them in the hide is not a bad idea especially if the temperature drops rapidly, I’m aware that this is not natural but neither is the hide box itself
@@Varanibae ok thankyou
This is amazing content, thank you for documenting these diy videos. Totally trying this
Thank you!
Great explanation of why you use flash and your 3D printing skills are wicked!
Thank you!
Pine is Toxic to reptiles homie
My understanding is if pine has been dried and treated it gives off minimal toxins, on top of that sealing it with paint/ polyurethane would make it safe. Also more of an issue in a small poorly ventilated enclosure
Could you let me know all the materials you used for this? Wanting to build close to the same thing like pond, how much wood, screws, paint etc.. thanks!
Hi Austin, 90x45 h3 pine. 12mm structural grade plywood, pocket hole jig and screws, fencing paint, right bond wood glue. Let me know if you have anything specifically you want to know
What a neat idea. Just subbed
Thank you for the cool ideas. :)
fantastic job.
Thank you!
Haha, the dog dropped his ball in the roach bin. My son and I laughed. 😂
😂 He likes to place his ball in what ever I’m working on to get my attention
What size tubs are you using?
45L IKEA samla tubs
@@Varanibae Thank you! I can definitely see myself doing something like this for my more mid sized lizards like my bearded dragon, skinks, uromastyx and amieva!

Very nice rack system. What size tubs are you using?
Thank you! These are 45L ikea samla tubs
Great videos. May I ask what software you are using for you 3D designs and printing?
Thanks! I use the old free version of sketchup
This is awesome! How large will this specific monitor get? I’m currently looking into how to build an enclosure for a black throat monitor! What is the size and dimensions of this one here?
It was a mature 4ft female. The enclosure was 2 x1.2 x1.8m
What temp do you keep yours at? Tank is looking good, are no plants similar to their natural environment?
I keep them at about 27c. No plants is a personal choice. I used to keep a lot of planted tanks and wanted a change. A lot of American cichlids would also rip out plants and being sand sifters I can’t really plant anything into the sand
@@Varanibae damn, that's quite a high temp 😊
What enclosure is this?
4x4x2 FormPly glass front enclosure I built myself
Amazing work!
Thanks!

one thing missing..... ROOM monitors needs alot of room to roam. imho, this is not cool
I’ve tried raising hatchling monitors in larger enclosures but there’s always one or two that never do well because they hide far from the hot spot and never come out to eat. More room can be given when they are older and more established.
jump scare at the end
Just started looking at breeding woodies and this video is excellent 👍
Thanks! Good luck with the breeding
That really nice man 🔥🔥🔥🔥

How do you clean dirt stuck to the cage?
3:30 The dog at the back throwing his ball into one of the containers lol
He deliberately does that. He’d also drop it into my buckets when I’m doing water change for my aquarium.
Fantastic! - I have searched everywhere for something like this. Are you able to either share the STL or prinmt one for a price?

I knew alot of people were able to tame their monitor lizards, but I would take a tegu over them all day of the week, my tegu never even strike at me to this day, the worst he does is just tail whipping when I'm not carrying him properly.

hello i am working on launching a tank and was wondering if your willing to sell me your design or for the prototypes atleast let me use your design if i give credit
Hi, unfortunately this design is still in development and I’m not looking at selling it at this stage
What do you use for nesting substrate and what’s the ratio?
50/50 fine coco peat and play sand
Looks great!! Do you have a list of supplies that you used?
Thanks! 1 inch aluminium tubes and nylon connectors, 3mm acrylic sheets, 3mm aluminium composite panel. Let me know if there’s a particular part you saw in the vid that you can’t find
@@Varanibaethanks the reply! I was curious about how you did the lighting
@@BlackAurumArt the only lighting in there is the led strips, all the electrical supplies for that was from ebay. The cool white 12v led strips were placed into aluminium led channels that were mounted on a 45degree angle using 3d printed brackets. There are holes in the aluminium frame so that the wiring can be fed into the hollow aluminium tubs and be hidden. A female dc Jack was used so that the power supply for the led strip can be unplugged from the rack system if required
@@Varanibaethank you so much for the detailed response! 🫡
How many Sveni in that tank. And how many are males to females. I’m looking at getting a group for my 150 gallon
